JAL Economy 737-800: Kushiro, Hokkaido to Tokyo Haneda Airport
A week filled with snow, ice and laser festivals on Japan's northernmost island of Hokkaido was over; time to fly on JAL in Economy Class to Tokyo Haneda Airport.
JAL offers free non-alcoholic beverages only, leg space wasn't too cramped and pleasant attendants bow passengers on and off the plane. Marine Steve and I had never been in Haneda Airport before and it is a model of beauty and efficiency...what else can you expect from the Japanese?
Visit beautiful Kushiro!
Kushiro is fantastic at this time of year!
You can eat some fantastic foods like sushi, BBQ and Spa-katsu which is a cutlet on a bed of spaghetti.
There are many other things to do in town. Such as visiting the museum and learning about the Ainu culture and seeing the beautiful Red Crowned Cranes! Explore it for yourself!.

Abashiri to Kushiro, a train journey
Yesterday I packed as little as possible and set off to catch the train from Abashiri to Kushiro, where I will be staying for three nights before returning to Abashiri.
Kushiro is off to the east, and is on the Western Pacific Ocean, as opposed to Abashiri which is on the Sea of Okhotsk, the Russian name for what I believe is also the Pacific.
The little old train chugged in to the station and quite a few people got on. Right on time, off we set on a journey through more snowy landscapes.
The journey took a little under three hours and was a delight. People got on and off at what seemed to me to be the most obscure places. At one point a large number of people alighted being replaced with an equally large number, and I worked out from the Japanese sign (very proud of myself!) that there was an onsen here. An onsen is a hot springs bath (like a spa) and they are a way of life in Japan, and very popular with tourists too. Though not this one. The idea of being totally naked in a hot tub (clothing strictly forbidden and by the way, also tattoos!) surrounded by others doesn’t of itself appeal. But more, the idea of being lovely and warm and then having to get out into the freezing cold strikes me as the last thing in the world I would want to do. To be fair, you have to bathe before going in so I believe they are quite clean, and in case you were wondering they are usually single sex only.
At every stop there were people standing on the platform taking photos of our train. I don’t know if train-spotting is just a popular hobby in Japan or whether our train had some special interest. I’ll have to take a photo of it on the return journey to see if I can work out the answer.
At one point, instead of the usual brief stop, we stayed in the station for a good few minutes whilst a man with a tray of comestibles plied his wares.
The landscape changed as we travelled, as the snow lessened and dry marsh grass began to make its appearance.
Eventually we arrived in Kushiro and my map said it was about a kilometre to my hotel. As I only had a light back I thought I would walk. Google said go south. I had no idea which way was south. A biting wind hit my face.
And I thought, to hell with it and jumped in a taxi. What a pleasure it was to ride in comfort to the door of what turned out to be a beautiful hotel – it’s in the Crowne Plaza group – and my room is equally beautiful. The view from the window is stunning.

10th white sweetheart park Sapporo city
Speaking of sweets that represent Hokkaido, white lover is. It is also a staple among Hokkaido souvenirs. Known for its ability to visit Ishiya Confectionery, a manufacturer, White Lover Park is a popular tourist spot, including plant tours and cookies making experience with children. I also pay attention to sweets and souvenirs that can only be found here.
9th Banei Tokachi Obihiro Racecourse Obihiro City
A race that competes for speed and power while riding a sleigh is called a Bangei race, but it seems to be the only public competition in Japan. Here at Obihiro Racecourse, you can see how large farm horses compete in close proximity.
8th Shiretoko Five Lakes Shari-gun Shari-cho
Shiretoko, located in Shari-cho, Hokkaido, is a place where you can see unique ecosystems and magnificent nature that can not be seen anywhere else in Japan. It is also registered as a World Natural Heritage site, and the Shiretoko Five Lakes with the names from One Lake to Five Lakes reflect the sky and mountains on the water surface, and you can see a very beautiful sight. It is a very popular tourist spot that you want to visit by mast when you come to Hokkaido. However, be careful as you may encounter a brown bear.
7th Lake Akan Kushiro City
It is Akanko (Akanko) in Akan National Park in eastern Hokkaido. At Akan Lake, which boasts one of the largest sizes in Hokkaido, you can feel the magnificent nature of Hokkaido. In winter, the surface of the lake freezes and you can experience natural smelt fishing, etc. You can also have smelt fish that you have tempered.
6th Goryokaku Park Hakodate City
There are many spots where you can feel the historical romance, such as the restored Hakodate votive office, in Gyogokaku created by the Edo Shogunate in the late Edo period. It is also a popular spot for history lovers. Cherry blossoms are very beautiful in spring, and seasonal scenery such as colored leaves and snow scene is also a highlight.
5th Hitsujigaoka Observatory Sapporo, Hokkaido
The Hitsujigaoka Observatory can be accessed easily from Sapporo by bus, making it easy to visit even when sightseeing in Hokkaido in a short period of time. You can experience the majestic nature of Hokkaido, and a statue of Dr. Clark, famous for Boys, be ambitious!, Is also built.
4th Odori Park Sapporo City
Speaking of Sapporo's famous events, it is the snow and ice festival Sapporo Snow Festival held every February. In fact, it is the “Odori Park” here that you can enjoy the wonderful snow statue that entertains many people every year. Odori Park, which divides Sapporo's town from north to south, is now bustling as an event venue and a place for citizens to relax.
3rd Farm Tomita Naka-Fura Nakano Furano-cho
Kamifurano-cho Farm Tomita is a place where you can enjoy the beautiful lavender fields spread across the hill. Speaking of Hokkaido, there are many people who think of this landscape, isn't it? The peak of the peak is usually seen from the middle of July to the end of July, and many foreign tourists visit during the season. I would like Lavender software to come here too.
2nd Otaru canal Otaru City
Otaru has been an important city for the people of Hokkaido since the pioneering era of Hokkaido. Otaru Port has developed as a gateway to Hokkaido development and is still a popular tourist attraction in Otaru. The gas-fired fire at dusk is so fantastic that it looks like a movie scene. You can enjoy the excellent atmosphere just by taking a leisurely walk, and the Otaru canal with winter snow is also romantic and wonderful.
1st A night view seen from Mount Hakodate Hakodate City
The dominating first place is the night view seen from Mt. Hakodate! Of course the daytime scenery where the harbor and the town are clear is also beautiful, but when it comes to Hokkaido, the night view from this Hakodate mountain can not be fogged. Aim at the summit with a ropeway, and the view seen from there is breathtaking. Hakodate is not a big city, but the contrast between the city lights and the jet-black sea is a beauty that can not be tasted elsewhere.
