Kyoto, once the capital of Japan, is a city on the island of Honshu. It's famous for its numerous classical Buddhist temples, as well as gardens, imperial palaces, Shinto shrines and traditional wooden houses. It’s also known for formal traditions such as kaiseki dining, consisting of multiple courses of precise dishes, and geisha, female entertainers often found in the Gion district.

Kyoto Japan 京都 - To Be Honest We Only Saw The Super Famous Bits...
Kyoto with a baby was super fun! Kyoto is well worth a visit if you're in Japan. There are so many famous, iconic things to do in the area.
(京都)
If you are are planning to travel kyoto with family this should really help especially if you want to travel kyoto with kids! Travel is so different with kids! We feel like we found some places that worked well for us as a family - and I even got to do something for myself too! Mum Win!
Fushimi Inari Taisha - These are the famous iconic orange gates. Although this place can get very busy and crowded, there are sections where you can walk down paths back on yourself and there are less people. You can find less crowded spots to get that iconic empty photo. Also keep walking up the mountain to find more beautiful temples.
Bamboo Forest - A short train ride from the town centre (you need to get off the train at Saga-Arashiyama station and walk less 1km to the bamboo forest). Once you are in the forest you can enjoy wondering around winding paths through the surreal bamboo.
Geisha District - (Gion district) is home to several beautiful temples and lots of very beautiful girls wearing the traditional kimono dresses and plenty of white make up. This is a great spot to wander round, eat street food and get some awesome Japanese photos.
Dressing in Traditional Kimono - this is a great way to get to grips with Japanese culture and get some great selfies. The Ninja school, Ninja Dojo, have a Kimono experience. Contact them for more information:
Trying The Local Street Food - There is plenty of street food around. Prices range depending on where you are and what you are looking for. You can generally get something quite tasty for £2-3 (around $5). If you are on a tighter budget, then there are lots of convenience stores around that offer cheap food.
Ninja School Training - This was SO much fun we even made a special video on this one!
You get to learn ninja philosophy, Ninja moves and Ninja tricks and equipment.
Visiting the Bowing Deer of Nara - A short train ride from Kyoto you can visit Nara. Nara has a lovely walking street and some gorgeous parks and temples with deer wondering around. You can buy food to feed the deer and some of them do actually bow! Be careful though - they aren't all polite - we did see a few deer getting a bit too enthusiastic about food and going for peoples clothes instead.

Exploring Kyoto, Japan|Day 63 - Kyoto
Formerly the capital of Japan, Kyoto’s rich cultural and religious history is preserved as it was over 1,000 years ago. This beautiful, historic city and prefecture makes the top “must-see” lists in travel books and magazines every year. Over 2,000 religious sites are scattered across the city, most of them in perfect condition as Kyoto was spared from air raids during World War II. One of the most famous temples in Japan and a popular sightseeing spot is the Temple of the Golden Pavilion (Kinkaku-ji). In honor of the vegetarian lifestyle of the monks and priests working at the prefecture’s many temples and shrines, Kyoto fare has developed over the centuries to spotlight local heirloom vegetables. Kaiseki Ryori, a traditional Japanese multi-course haute cuisine, originated from this culinary tradition. In contrast to Tokyo’s fast-paced and modern vibe, Kyoto is elegant and refined. To fully enjoy it visitors should slow down, savor, ponder and stroll.

Japan with Kids: TOP 10 Kyoto Attractions | Japan Family Holiday (2019)
Uncover 10 of the best attractions in Kyoto with kids, from themed Edo-period museums to Samurai experiences and breathtaking temple complexes - this is one city that will forever steal your hearts.
After our first visit, Kyoto has become one of our favourite cities in the world - combining history, culture, to-die-for-food, and, of course, amazingly friendly locals.
We've compiled this handy guide for your Japan family holiday so that you can determine which places are best suited for your travels. The main attraction in Kyoto is, obviously, all the stunning temples. From Kinkakuji to the Inari Shrine, you'll spend a good few days just exploring all the temple complexes in the city. We also visited the Kyoto Railway Museum (see link below for our insider guide) which was an absolute hit with our kids, rented a bicycle and rode to Arashiyama to see the Monkey Park and bamboo grove which was the number one Kyoto highlight for us. The best way of getting around in Japan with kids is to rent a bicycle, as most rental shops offer child seats that come with the bikes. It makes getting around so much more pleasant and less strenuous.
But, by all means, don't forget to roam through Kyoto Station - hands down, one of the best train stations we have ever seen. Packed with eateries, shops, activities and viewing platforms - we spent a good 3 hours exploring this gigantic station.
Kyoto, undoubtedly, needs to be on the itinerary for your Japan family vacation. Even when you and the kids have had enough of temples, there's so many other sights and activities to experience that the whole family will enjoy.
So, if you're visiting Japan with kids, try and squeeze some of these attractions in (if not, all) - the only regret we had was not booking a longer holiday to see, eat and do more.

Kyoto Vlog - One Week In JAPAN
Kyoto Vlog - The Best Week in JAPAN | My Japanese Family, Matcha, The Golden Temple & Kyoto Shrines, plus My First Japanese Tea Ceremony | Sanne Vloet in Japan
Hi guys
Did you guys enjoy my Tokyo Vlog? I had so much fun in Tokyo with Max and my friends. Please forgive the singing, it was a long night, and Max promises he can sing better than that night! Have any of you ridden on a bullet train in Japan? If you ever visit Japan I recommend you look into a Japan Rail Pass, it lets you ride as much as you'd like on specific trains for up to four weeks. Has anyone ever used one, maybe you can let me know what all the specific rules are, but we were able to use the pass for two weeks to get between all the different cities.
So who here has either visited Japan or really wants to visit? If you haven't and you are planning on going you have to visit Kyoto! It's another amazing city completely different than any city I've visited before. The city has so much history, it was the capital of Japan once, has amazing MATCHA, and there are so many beautiful shrines that will take your breath away. The energy is so calming and peaceful, plus I had the best okonomiyaki. Who know's what that is?
Did anyone know Max had family in Japan? I was lucky enough to meet his grandmother, I was completely lost in translation, but Max's mom who I've cooked with on the channel was there. This trip to Japan was so much fun and we did so much that it felt like we had been in Japan for a month! I can't believe this all happened in ten days!
My goal this week is to share as much content as possible from my trip, so I'm going to be posting at least one more video this week, maybe two! I'm back in New York and if you're here too I hope you're staying warm inside! I was thinking about trying out a few vlogs during vlogmas, what should I vlog about if I do it, and what do you guys want to see?
Hope you all enjoyed part II of my trip to Japan! Make sure to subscribe and turn on post notifications to follow my adventure in Japan! Let me know if you have any questions and I'll try to respond to all of you today!
Happy Holidays!
xx

Where we stayed - Hyatt Regency Kyoto | | I recommend if you're ever in Tokyo you should visit the Riraku Spa at the hotel and try the dry bath. It's an experience that I can't wait for you guys to see! If you're interested I'll respond with a link to a good article I found online about it!

Kamogawa River
We’re starting at one of Kyoto’s most scenic spots, Kamogawa. Locals have referred to it in the past as Blue Dragon or the river where gods live.
During the Edo period, Kyoto became a gorgeous geisha quarter and the locals often spent time at Kamogawa cooling off at the restaurants and bars on the river and shallows. There used to be about 400 shops back in the day, but were taken away due to levee works and are now being slowly rebuilt since the Showa period.
Worth noting is that Pontocho street runs parallel to this river and you can see many of it’s restaurants extend towards the river with temporary terraces called Seiryotoko. Definitely worth enjoying a meal or drink at one of these spots if you are around during this time.
It’s also perfect afternoon spot in the spring and summer months to have a picnic or a cold beer with friends.

KIMONO in KYOTO: Tips, Fun-Facts & Student Discounts (Arashiyama, Japan)
I truly became a hardcore tourist the other day by wearing Japanese kimonos to the bamboo forest in Arashiyama! wearing a kimono at a tourist location was on my bucket list ever since I moved here, and I was finally able to tick that off my list. We received a student discount, and was able to borrow the kimono AND get our hair done all for 3500 yen (approximately 32 USD)- I’ll link the place I used below! From drinking authentic green tea to testing out all the samples that were available for us to indulge in, it was definitely a day to remember.
Kimono place I went to with that DANK student discount:
Thanks for watching, and i'll see you next week :)
