Arashiyama Bamboo Grove tour in Kyoto, Japan + AMAZING Sushi
Our Arashiyama Bamboo Grove tour in Kyoto, Japan was a wonderful experience just outside the center of Japan's once capital and is definitely on of the top things to do in Kyoto. Located about 30 minutes from the center of Kyoto by car, Arashiyama is an area of peace and tranquility - it's the quintessential Zen escape from the hustle and bustle of Japanese city life. A lot of people also call it the Arashiyama Bamboo Forest (嵐山, 京都市).
The Arashiyama Bamboo Grove forms part of the 3 pillars of must sees and dos when in Kyoto: the Fushimi-Inari-Taisha Shrine, the Kinkaku-hi (golden) temple and Arashiyama. It's quite simply a must, and a must that you will undoubtedly enjoy. Located in the mountains surrounding Japan's ancient capital, there is something cool and mystical about the place. Maybe it's just me, or maybe it's because Zen buddhism has a history here, but there's just simply a feeling about the place. Then again, this was one of our earliest encounters with Japanese culture and history and as such probably left a deep impression on all of us.
After that we visited the Tenryu-ji (天龍寺, Tenryūji) temple. PLEASE NOTE, there is a mistake in the video and the place after Arashiyama is in fact Tenryu-ji. This Zen buddhist temple was built in 1339 by Shogun Ashikaga Takauji. Not unlike other Japanese landmarks, the temple was damaged by fire multiple time since then. Most of today's structure dates back to the Meiji Era (1868-1912).
Adjacent the Tenryu-ji temple is the Tenryu-ji garden. Created by This is a marvel of Japanese gardens. Created by Muso Soseki, this is a marvel and hallmark of Japanese gardens. The beauty, the simplicity, the way nature is perfected by the hand of Man is an awe-inspiring experience, even if an introspective one. I realized after walking through this garden that Japanese gardens are not just gardens, they are a philosophy of life.
After visiting Arashiyama, we ate at an AMAZING sushi restaurant, whose name I unfortunately forget! If you've never had sushi in Japan, it's really different! And Kyoto is also known as the birthplace of sushi, although back in the day the fish was fermented or marinated.

Best Kyoto Sake & Food Tour | Fushimi District Best Sake In Japan
Want to experience a rock star tour of the world's greatest sake district? This is hands down the best food & drink tour we've ever done.

The most notable of these traditions is arguably the craft of sake brewing; the bountiful underground springs in the precinct contain some of the purest waters on the planet, and the Japanese wasted no time in transforming this natural gift into the wondrous elixir known around the world as Sake. On this tour, you'll have a chance to sample around 25 different sakes while learning about the historic Fushimi district of Kyoto. You'll tour a 400-year-old brewery and dine at a traditional Japanese restaurant -- it doesn't get any more authentic or memorable than this.
SLEEK Japanese STUDIO APARTMENT Tour + KYOTO STATION Area Guide | Kyoto, Japan
In late January of 2019, spent twelve incredible days exploring the food, culture, and wonders of Japan. After being a lover of Japanese food since I was a kid, it was amazing to visit the country and have authentic food and culture experiences first-hand.
Kyoto Airbnb:
Through those experiences, I fell in love with this majestic island nation and am so excited to share this amazing country with you guys!
My Film Making Kit ►
After staying in Tokyo for a few days, the next city on my Japanese itinerary was the ancient and traditional city of Kyoto, where I spent two nights. But while I was there, I wanted to give you a quick tour of the apartment I called home. Come join me on a tour of my sleek apartment in the Kyoto Station area!
One of the great things about my apartment is that it’s so close to transportation, literally a ten-minute walk from Kyoto Station, the main train station in the city and one of the biggest in the country. It’s where I arrived at after my bullet train ride from Tokyo, so getting there after my ride was quick and easy.
The apartment building is nice and modern, with bike racks before you enter the lobby, which is guarded by a security system and surveillance cameras. Inside is the elevator, which I rode to the third floor to my unit, apartment 301. The building is very comfortable and safe, and I highly recommend checking it out on Airbnb!
The apartment is protected by two locks, including a double lock. It’s important to remember to take off your shoes at the door when entering a house or apartment in Japan. It’s considered disrespectful if you don’t!
Inside is a kitchenette with a sink and faucet, a gas stovetop, a rack with coffee mugs and glasses, a microwave, a tea maker, a small refrigerator and freezer combo, trash and recycling bins, and a nice closet where you can keep your shoes and other items.
The bathroom is very sleek and technologically advanced and contains a 2-in-1 washer/dryer combo, a shower, a toilet with bidet functionality and a heated seat, and a sink.
The studio apartment also contains a queen-sized bed, a twin bed, and a couch in the main area, as well as a table with a little monitor that displays the temperature outside. There’s also a closet containing extra blankets and pillows, and a really nice terrace! The apartment has everything you could possibly need and is clean and secure and great for a pair of people or even a small family.
The morning after my apartment tour, I headed out to explore the neighborhood. I was so thrilled to see that it was snowing outside! Being from Miami, I don’t get to see snow often, so I was really fortunate to get to see some on this trip.
My first stop was at one of the vending machines right outside my apartment, where I grabbed a cold Boss coffee (100 Yen/$0.90). There’s also a small, Buddhist shrine by the side of the street. Kyoto is filled with temples and shrines; there are over 2,000 of them in the city!
Nearby is a FamilyMart convenience store, one of the three major convenience store chains in Japan. At the end of the street is a gorgeous temple called the Higashi Honganji Temple. I took a seat outside it to enjoy my coffee before continuing on toward the downtown area, which includes Kyoto Tower, a 130-meter structure with an observation deck at the top, and Kyoto Station.
Kyoto Airbnb:
I hope you enjoyed coming along on this tour of my apartment and the area around Kyoto Station! If you did, please give this video a thumbs up and leave me a comment below. And please subscribe to my channel if you haven’t already. I will see you in the next travel food adventure!

Japan with Kids: TOP 10 Kyoto Attractions | Japan Family Holiday (2019)
Uncover 10 of the best attractions in Kyoto with kids, from themed Edo-period museums to Samurai experiences and breathtaking temple complexes - this is one city that will forever steal your hearts.
After our first visit, Kyoto has become one of our favourite cities in the world - combining history, culture, to-die-for-food, and, of course, amazingly friendly locals.
We've compiled this handy guide for your Japan family holiday so that you can determine which places are best suited for your travels. The main attraction in Kyoto is, obviously, all the stunning temples. From Kinkakuji to the Inari Shrine, you'll spend a good few days just exploring all the temple complexes in the city. We also visited the Kyoto Railway Museum (see link below for our insider guide) which was an absolute hit with our kids, rented a bicycle and rode to Arashiyama to see the Monkey Park and bamboo grove which was the number one Kyoto highlight for us. The best way of getting around in Japan with kids is to rent a bicycle, as most rental shops offer child seats that come with the bikes. It makes getting around so much more pleasant and less strenuous.
But, by all means, don't forget to roam through Kyoto Station - hands down, one of the best train stations we have ever seen. Packed with eateries, shops, activities and viewing platforms - we spent a good 3 hours exploring this gigantic station.
Kyoto, undoubtedly, needs to be on the itinerary for your Japan family vacation. Even when you and the kids have had enough of temples, there's so many other sights and activities to experience that the whole family will enjoy.
So, if you're visiting Japan with kids, try and squeeze some of these attractions in (if not, all) - the only regret we had was not booking a longer holiday to see, eat and do more.

Kyoto tour~COOL JAPAN-KYOTO ENGLISH TOUR~
This DVD introduces “experience-oriented” sightseeing tours in Kyoto, closely reflecting the daily lives of Japanese people. Foreigners visiting Japan enjoy various hands-on experiences. For example, some went to a liquor shop and tried sake tasting or went to a shop that sells brushes for writing and wrote their names using the brushes, while others visited an antique shop and learned how ancient weapons were used in the old days. Some people even experienced the spirit of “Zen” at a temple! Such sightseeing tours are not usually listed on a guidebook and are definitely recommended for Japanese as well.

TRADITIONAL Japanese STREET FOOD Tour at Fushimi Inari Shrine | Kyoto, Japan
During my twelve incredible days exploring the Asian island nation of Japan in January of 2019, I absolutely fell in love with the country. The people, the culture, the gorgeous sites, and of course, the phenomenal food, captured my heart. It’s near the top of my list of my favorite destinations of all-time and I believe it’s a place everyone needs to experience at least once in their lifetime. Join me on my latest Japanese adventure!
My Film Making Kit ►
After arriving in Kyoto on the morning of my fourth day in Japan, I met up with my new friend and guide Kosuke, who took me on an incredible tour of Kyoto’s temples and an insanely delicious traditional Japanese street food tour at the Fushimi Inari Shrine! Come along with me as I begin my exploration of Kyoto and gorge on some of its best street food!
Kyoto is an ancient city that is steeped in history and tradition (it served as Japan’s capital for over 1,000 years from the 8th century to the 20th century), and that history and tradition can be seen at every turn. The moment I arrived, I was immediately blown away by how different Kyoto felt from the ultra-modern concrete jungle of Tokyo. Kyoto felt much quieter and much more traditional by comparison. There are roughly 2,000 temples in the city!
My tour began at Kōmyō-in, a sub-temple in the Tōfuku-ji Buddhist temple complex that was founded in 1391. The temple is famous for its Zen garden, maple trees, and cherry blossoms. It’s customary to take off your shoes when you enter any Japanese temple or apartment, so we did so and continued on to the Zen garden, which is covered in moss; contains lots of white gravel (which is raked weekly by the head monk); and has lots of large rocks jutting up from the moss. The rocks represent mountains and the white gravel symbolizes the ocean. You can’t step into the garden; you have to enjoy it from the wooden walkways of the temple.
Inside the temple are several rooms and photos of the temple hanging on the walls. Kosuke also took me to the praying hall, where the head monk reads from the Buddhist bible. The hall contains a statue of the Buddha and is beautiful!
Next, we headed off to get some breakfast at the food market near the Fushimi Inari Shrine, which is a very famous shrine that sees 7,000 visitors per day, including locals who pray for the prosperity of their businesses.
The aroma of the food in the market was amazing! I couldn’t wait to try it!
I started with takoyaki (500 Yen/$4.46), or octopus balls, which are made from a batter containing octopus, red ginger, and cabbage. It was hot, but so delicious with a soft, crème brûlée-like consistency inside, and had a nice takoyaki sauce and bonito flakes on top.
Next was a tofu steak (400 Yen/$3.57), which is tofu on a stick that’s pan-fried and is topped with wasabi, ponzu sauce, seaweed, and bonito flakes. I loved it, especially the texture of the bonito flakes and the flavor of the seaweed! So delicious!
We followed that with gyoza (300 Yen/$2.68 for 3 gyozas), or a type of Japanese potsticker, which was wrapped with chicken skin. It was the best gyoza I’ve ever had! The chicken skin was really fatty and changed the texture of the gyoza. It blew my mind! I followed that with a dried, fig-like fruit that was amazing as well.
As we continued through the market, I bought two Japanese masks (2,000 Yen each/$17.86 each) for my wall at home. We made our way toward the Fushimi Inari Shrine, and Kosuke told me that it became popular after the film “Memoirs of a Geisha” was filmed there.
The shrine’s most popular site is the 10,000 vermilion torii gates that straddle a network of trails going up the mountain. Each gate was donated by a Japanese businessman and is inscribed with the name of the businessman’s company and the date it was donated. The gates are gorgeous!
Next, I visited some miniature torii gates stacked in front of the holy rock, and picked up the good luck rock to see what kind of luck I would have! Let’s just say I hope it was wrong!
I hope you enjoyed my temple, shrine, and food tour of Kyoto! If you did, please give it a thumbs up, leave me a comment below, and subscribe to my channel for more awesome travel and food content!
