RAIATEA, French Polynesia in 4K
Join us as we explore the gorgeous blue waters surrounding Raiatea. Our first stop is a swim and snorkel with the sharks, then onto a second snorkel stop before heading to our drift snorkel in a lagoon with a backdrop of Bora Bora in the distance. Then we're off to a motu for a picnic and more swimming in warm clear turquoise waters . A very relaxing day of fun in the sun.
Ra'iātea, is the second largest of the Society Islands, after Tahiti, in French Polynesia. The island is widely regarded as the 'centre' of the eastern islands in ancient Polynesia and it is likely that the organised migrations to Hawai'i, New Zealand and other parts of East Polynesia started at Ra'iātea.

Fakarava Blue Lagoon Windstar Cruise Excursion 4K
Fakarava is a cruise destination in French Polynesia for 10-day and longer cruises. In this 4K video we capture the popular blue lagoon cruise exursion that is offered to travelers that visit this atoll in the south pacific. The island has only 400 inhabitiants and is a designated UNESCO biosphere where habitats live in harmony without significant impact from humans. Our 11-day Windstar cruise on the Wind Spirit had a blue lagoon excursion but it was already booked so we went local and joined Ato's tour.
The Fakarava excursion started at the dock that the Wind Spirit tender drops all passengers on to the island. We were met by Ato and his son and then we were off for the bit of a boat ride to the blue lagoon. The first stop as seen in the video is your first opportunity for a snorkel at a motu which was a nice break along the way. There was some chop and current but it was all manageable with nice corals and fish. Next is the blue lagoon which is like being dropped of into paradise and for many why they take the longer cruise to see this part of French Polynesia. The blue lagoon is locally called TEAHATEA, one of the best place of Fakarava. It is technically a lagoon inside the lagoon. The blue lagoon is amazing but not as full of fish as we expected. It is reasonably shallow and there is no current to speak of. Take the time to just relax and enjoy the virgin nature that exists here although this is an area the humans visit. It was a great place to fly the Mavic drone although the winds were quite strong so we decided to keep it low. Ato's team served refreshments and fresh coconut. After a nice visit we departed and headed to our last snorkel stop and then back to the dock.
Diving was reported to very good on this island and we will probably do that on our next cruise through the islands.

We use the selfie stick for lots of purposed and never selfies :-) When we snorkel or dive we usually use this attached to the gopro camera to extend the camera closer to the item of interest and also find it help with motion. In the clip in the water under the boat we simply dropped it on the side of the boat into the water and then inverted it later to be a different perspective. When we shoot in water we do very little or no stabilization of video in post as that is the way you will experience it.

2014-09-10 Raiatea and the family Dauphin
When we arrived to Raiatea we meet the amazing family Dolphin (Dauphin)! We were searching for a PC shop and asked a man (Dominique Dauphin) if there was any PC store nearby. Jump in my car ... !!!
It was the start of five days with family Dauphin, where we were given tours around both Raiatea and Taaa. Visit Tapioi Hill with the most amazing views we have seen so far, Marea (the largest and most important religious site in Polynesia) and a vanilla cultivation! And we have not mentioned all the food we got and coconuts and other fruit and more!

French Polynesia Vlog 1 - Travel Day + Arriving in Moorea
This vlog starts at the Tom Bradley International Terminal at LAX where we boarded our flight on Air Tahiti Nui. We arrived in Pape'ete 8 hours laters around 5AM. However, getting to Moorea required another ferry ride!
Our first stop was Snack Mahana where we had excellent poisson cru. We then visited a fruit stall by the road and ended up walking back to the Intercontinental Moorea resort to check in.

SAILING FRENCH POLYNESIA (3 Weeks in French Polynesia - Pt. 4) (GoPro Video)
Sailing between Bora Bora, Raiatea, and Taha'a in French Polynesia! During our 3-week trip to French Polynesia in 2016, our final week was spent on a catamaran with TradeWinds. We sailed around the bright, blue waters of Bora Bora, saw a whale and dolphin, swam with stingrays, snorkeled the Coral Garden in Taha'a, toured a vanilla farm, visited a pearl farm, watched a traditional Polynesia dance show at Le Ficus, and enjoyed living on a boat for a week!

Raiatea Tahiti - My Tour Tales
Raiatea Tahiti - My Tour Tales
(Exploring Raiatea, Scoping Out Our Catamaran, Researching Provisioning)
I helped Kim do quick video for her online business on the beach at the Oviri Lodge. Then I shot a quick video of the grounds of our lodge and our accommodations. It really is a sweet getaway. Even with mosquito nets in place, we never saw one mosquito. I guess it’s the time of year. We had rented a little car the night before when we flew into Raiatea and we ne fed to head to town and visit Frank Cortez, our good friend and one of our crew. We also wanted to check out the grocery stores and see which one would be best for provisioning.
We met Frank about 10:30 and went to the Dream Yacht Charter abase to try and get a glimpse of our Catamaran. The drive during the day was so sweet compared to the white knuckle drive in the rain o had the night before. We got the base but our boat wasn’t there. Then we spotted it on the other side of the little marina, side tied by itself. It was an older Catana 41. I didn’t realize how old it was until we sailed it. More about that in future Tour Tales. You don’t wanna miss it!
We scoped our a few local grocery stores and soon realized we would have to visit all three to get what we needed for the trip. We played around a little in town and had a bunch of fun filling around in the stores. We saw tons of cool fresh fish. One thing Tahiti is not short on is fresh fish! We also found out liquor is insanely expensive!
We had lunch with Frank at Momo’z, the place he was staying that also has a nice little restaurant. Frank had befriended Momo and surprised us with a circle island tour that he had arranged thru Momo and all he wanted was a little gas money. What a guy! A great chef and tour guide all in one! We explored the island and all of its farms and plantations. We saw things most people will never see because we were with a local. Momo knee everyone! He honked and waved at damn near every person we drove by. They all knew him. He took us to a creek that had freshwater eels! These blue eyes eels are famous and most tourist will never see them.
We stopped at the most sacred ground in all of Tahiti. It’s called, the Marae Taputapuatea, and Momo even told us not to step on the rocks. Kim laid on the ground and said she felt the energy of a thousand years flowing through her. There was a film crew there shooting a documentary about the ruins I assumed. They walked all over the rocks and I thought it was very disrespectful. Oh well it’s their souls.
After our tour we were starving so we headed to a little Italian restaurant called La Napoli. We couldn’t decide between pizza or pasta so we order e one of each and split it between the three of us. They were both good but one weird thing they do there is too each dish with a raw egg. I like eggs, don’t get me wrong but raw egg on a pizza? I scraped mine off. Overall the food was good save the egg. It was a great first night in Raiatea.
