Cogoleto, storie di scali di pescatori e la casa di Cristoforo Colombo [zenazone turismo]
L'itinerario di oggi ci ha portato a Cogoleto, siamo nel comune più a ponente della Città Metropolitana di Genova.
Secondo la tradizione locale, ma anche secondo alcuni storici fu proprio Cogoleto a dare i natali al navigatore Cristoforo Colombo.
Qui siamo in via Rati e quella che vedete è la casa attribuita a Cristoforo Colombo, i decori della facciata risalgono al 1650 e furono commissionati da un prete discendente della famiglia di Colombo.
All'epoca la casa, abitata per generazioni da discendenti di Colombo, si presentava come un'abitazione di due soli piani, il terzo fu aggiunto successivamente e nel 1872 fu restaurata per rimediare ai saccheggi che i viaggiatori avevano fatto negli anni per portarsi via un mattone o una pietra in ricordo della loro visita.
In piazza Giusti invece si trova il monumento dedicato a Cristoforo Colombo, un busto marmoreo che risale al 1864
Il centro storico è costituito da una unica strada interna (via Rati e via Cristoforo Colombo) formata da tante case serrate tra loro e intervallate da vicoli e piazzette che si affacciavano sul mare, chiamate scali, che consentivano ai marinai di salpare e di tirare in secco le imbarcazioni.
Gli edifici più antichi della cittadina risalgono al X secolo e sono situati tra il rivo Terroso (Terrusso), che scorre sotto piazza Antonio Giusti, e la chiesa di Santa Maria Maggiore.
Non tutti sanno che in questa zona, sul mare, anticamente si trovava un castello, di forma rettangolare con massicce mura e due torre di avvistamento sul mare. Fu fatto abbattere da Napoleone Bonaparte in quanto era di impedimento alla costruzione della strada Nizza - Roma
LE PASSEGGIATE A LEVANTE E A PONENTE
Cogoleto è collegata verso levante ad Arenzano con una passeggiata sul mare dotata di pista ciclabile e realizzata sul tracciato della vecchia ferrovia.
Il lungomare è intitolato al cantautore genovese Fabrizio De André ed è stato inaugurato nel 2006.
La passeggiata prosegue anche a ponente fino all'inizio della passeggiata Europa di Varazze, anch'essa sul vecchio tracciato della ferrovia Genova-Ventimiglia.
Percorrendo queste passeggiate, intervallate da diverse gallerie della vecchia ferrovia, si incontra una natura rocciosa a macchia mediterranea che fa capire come doveva essere l'aspetto originario della regione prima dell'intervento dell'uomo.

Christopher Columbus' house, Genoa, Liguria, Italy, Europe
The house of Christopher Columbus in Genoa is the reconstruction (dating back to the eighteenth century) the building in which he lived in his youth Columbus. Now used as a museum center of the City, the house is located a short distance from the Gates, just outside the medieval walls. Historical records have enabled us to ensure that the browser you lived in the time range, roughly, between 1455 and 1470. It was part of the parish of Santo Stefano. The house is situated in the urban fabric then revised during the Renaissance, or outside the medieval walls. Video di Vittorio Innocente - Documenti storici attestano che Cristoforo Colombo vi abitò fra il 1455 ed il 1470. La casa, situata al di fuori delle antiche mura medioevali a breve distanza dalla Porta Soprana, fu quasi distrutta, come altre nella stessa zona, dal bombardamento della flotta navale di re Luigi XIV di Francia nel 1684. Quella che si presenta al visitatore contemporaneo è una ricostruzione dell'originario edificio medioevale, effettuata nei primi anni del Settecento, oggi adibita a polo museale storico del Comune Accanto sorge il chiostro del XII secolo della chiesa e del convento di Sant'Andrea, demolito nel 1904 al momento dello sterro del colle omonimo.
