Located entirely within the community of Dartmouth, Lake Banook is also referred to as 'First Lake' for its position in the Shubenacadie Canal system. The lake is home to a 1 km long flatwater paddling course. Three paddling clubs (Banook, Senobe, Mic Mac AAC), and a rowing club (Northstar) use the course.

An aerial video taken while flying my camera drone around the beautiful Lake Banook in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia. A lovely sunny day with the ice on the lake rapidly melting. It was completely clear of ice a few days later. Filmed with my DJI Mavic 2 Pro on the afternoon of March 27, 2019 while wearing my Epson Moverio BT-300 FPV glasses. This is where I paddle with a competitive Dragon Boat team in the summer. Lake Banook is home to three sprint canoe/kayak clubs, clustered at the south end of the lake: Banook Canoe Club, Senobe Aquatic Club, and Mic Mac Amateur Aquatic Club. This arrangement is unique in Canada, and has led to a longstanding and healthy competitive rivalry between clubs. All three clubs have developed multiple Olympians, National Champions, and World Championship team members. The lake is outfitted with an international-calibre 1000-metre sprint canoe and kayak race course during the summer months and has hosted many national and international events. See more at
