Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park 2016
Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park is located in East Java, Indonesia, to the east of Malang and to the southeast of Surabaya, the capital of East Java. It is the only conservation area in Indonesia that has a sand sea, across which is the caldera of an ancient volcano(Tengger) from which four new volcanic cones have emerged. Among them, Mount Bromo which stands tall at 2329 m is the most iconic and the most hiked mountain in Indonesia. It stands majestically despite having the entire top blown off and with a crater inside that keeps spewing off white sulphurous smoke. It is one of the most active volcanoes in the world with perfect example of beauty and danger. After an easy hike to nearby mount Penanjakan, travelers are awarded a breathtaking and ethereal landscape during the sunrise. This national park covers a total area of 5250 hectares at an altitude of about 2100 m. It also contains four lakes, 50 rivers and the highest mountain in Java, Mount Semeru(3676 m) which all local mountaineers aspire to ascend for both its stunning scenery and extremely challenging terrain. It takes a minimum of 2 days to climb Semeru but mostly all the people do it in 3 days with one extra night camping in extremely beautiful lake called Ranu Kumbolo. This amazing and one of the must visit place in south east Asia can be easily accessed by flying into Juanda international airport at Surabaya with direct flights from Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, Hong Kong, Jakarta and Bali.

BROMO-SEMERU VOLCANIC MASSIF – The Greatest Scenery View in Indonesia
Bromo-Semeru Volcanic Massif is centre piece of Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park which is located in East Java, Indonesia, southeast of Surabaya, the capital of East Java. The Park is the only conservation area in Indonesia that has a sand sea called “The Tengger Sand Sea”.
The Tengger Sand Sea lays inside one of the largest calderas in the World – The Tengger Caldera - which is 10 x 8,5 km in size with average depth over 110 meters. Inside of caldera towers group of four volcanoes Mt. Bromo, Mt. Batok, Mt. Kursi and Mt. Widodaren. Outside of the caldera lays Mt. Semeru (3.676 m) the highest mountain of Java. Both Mt. Bromo and Mt.Semeru are most active volcanoes in the complex with Mt. Bromo’s more than 60 eruptions since 1767.
From the observation point on the South side rim of the caldera there is spectacular view of this unique configuration of four volcanic cones with Mt.Semeru towering in the background. View is considered as most scenic and most photographed view in Indonesia not only because of unique configuration of all five volcanoes but also for other unusual attraction – caldera’s morning fogs – which are created mainly because caldera’s altitude of 2.100 m. Fogy mornings enhance this spectacular view since one can see different scenery configuration almost every single morning.
Morning fog movement in the caldera is demonstrated in the video together with Mt. Semeru post eruption smoke stretching across the top of the mountain.
View of Mt. Bromo crater’s acidic lake was taken in the period of volcano inactivity (volcano is erupting in Strombolian eruption in 5-8 years periods), while Mt. Semeru eruptions are documented in video by post eruption smoke on the top of the mountain. These small eruption occurred during my stay in half an hour periods.
I hope you will enjoy this different yet spectacular video
Cheers

The Amazing Of Bromo Mountain
Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park is located in East Java, Indonesia, to the east of Malang and to the southeast of Surabaya, the capital of East Java. It is the only conservation area in Indonesia that has a sand sea, the Tengger Sand Sea (Indonesian: Laut Pasir Tengger), across which is the caldera of an ancient volcano (Tengger) from which four new volcanic cones have emerged. The massif also contains the highest mountain in Java, Mount Semeru (3,676 m), four lakes and 50 rivers.
The Tengger Sand Sea has been protected since 1919. The Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park was declared a national park in 1982.
The volcanic complex of Tengger forms a condition where a new caldera of volcano forms inside a larger and more ancient caldera. There are five volcanoes inside the Tengger Caldera: Mount Bromo (2,329 m), Mount Batok (2,470 m), Mount Kursi (2,581 m), Mount Watangan (2,661 m), and Mount Widodaren (2,650 m). Mount Batok is the only peak that is no longer active, and is covered in casuarina (Indonesian: cemara) trees. Mount Widodaren, located beside Mount Batok, contains the cave Widodaren, which is considered sacred by local people.
The five volcanoes within the caldera are surrounded by a vast area of sand called the Tengger Sand Sea, which in turn is surrounded by a steep crater wall of the larger Tengger Caldera with height differences of about 200–600 metres (660–1,970 ft). Other mountains around the Tengger caldera are: Mount Pananjakan (2,770 m), Mount Cemorolawang (2,227 m), Mount Lingker (2,278 m), Mount Pundak Lembu (2,635 m), Mount Jantur (2,705 m), Mount Ider-ider (2,527 m) and Mount Mungal (2,480 m). The peak of Mount Pananjakan is the most popular place to watch the entire volcanic complex of Tengger.
Further south in the national park, there is another volcanic complex called the Semeru Group or Jambangan Group. This area contains the highest peak of Java, Mount Semeru (3,676 m). Other mountains within this area are Mount Lanang (2,313 m), Mount Ayek-ayek (2,819 m), Mount Pangonan Cilik (2,833 m), Mount Keduwung (2,334 m), Mount Jambangan (3,020 m), Mount Gentong (1,951 m), Mount Kepolo (3,035 m), and Mount Malang (2,401 m). The Semeru forest area has many rivers that are former lava lines from Mount Semeru. The Semeru group is considered to be very productive, producing volcanic matters such as lava, volcanic ash, and hot cloud and spreading it to the surrounding area. The lower area is surrounded with fertile rice fields.

Mt Bromo volcano timelapse (Indonesia)
Time lapse movie shot at Mt Bromo volcano, Java, Indonesia. In this country with most volcanos in the world, none is as scenic and popular as Mt Bromo. It is visited by hundreds of people, mostly Indonesians, every single day. The most popular activities here are watching Mt Bromo at sunrise (weather doesn’t allow good sunsets) and walking up to the crater’s edge. Most people only spent a day or two here. But for me Mt Bromo was the perfect location for my TimeScapes Project. In TimeScapes I aim to capture and time ánd light in photos and video.
Besides that project I also created this ‘regular’ time lapse in which I show Mt Bromo throughout the whole day from almost every angle and viewpoint. Mt Bromo is an active volcano, smoke comes out of it almost non stop and you can hear it rumble constantly. Eruptions regularly occur, but never with lava, it’s mostly smoke and ashes. You can often smell the sulphur.

Aerial Merapi - A Decade Volcano (4K)
Mount Merapi, Gunung Merapi (literally Fire Mountain in Indonesian and Javanese), is an active stratovolcano located on the border between Central Java and Yogyakarta, Indonesia. It is the most active volcano in Indonesia and has erupted regularly since 1548. It is located approximately 28 kilometres (17 mi) north of Yogyakarta city which has a population of 2.4 million, and thousands of people live on the flanks of the volcano, with villages as high as 1,700 metres (5,600 ft) above sea level.
Smoke can often be seen emerging from the mountaintop, and several eruptions have caused fatalities. Pyroclastic flow from a large explosion killed 27 people on 22 November 1994, mostly in the town of Muntilan, west of the volcano. Another large eruption occurred in 2006, shortly before the Yogyakarta earthquake. In light of the hazards that Merapi poses to populated areas, it has been designated as one of the Decade Volcanoes.
On 25 October 2010 the Indonesian government raised the alert for Mount Merapi to its highest level and warned villagers in threatened areas to move to safer ground. People living within a 20 km (12 mi) zone were told to evacuate. Officials said about 500 volcanic earthquakes had been recorded on the mountain over the weekend of 23–24 October, and that the magma had risen to about 1 kilometre (3,300 ft) below the surface due to the seismic activity. On the afternoon of 25 October 2010 Mount Merapi erupted lava from its southern and southeastern slopes.
The mountain was still erupting on 30 November 2010, but due to lowered eruptive activity on 3 December 2010 the official alert status was reduced to level 3. The volcano is now 2930 metres high, 38 metres lower than before the 2010 eruptions.
After a large eruption in 2010 the characteristic of Mount Merapi was changed. On 18 November 2013 Mount Merapi burst smoke up to 2,000 meters high, one of its first major phreatic eruptions after the 2010 eruption. Researchers said that this eruption occurred due to combined effect of hot volcanic gases and abundant rainfall.
The Decade Volcanoes are 16 volcanoes identified by the International Association of Volcanology and Chemistry of the Earth's Interior (IAVCEI) as being worthy of particular study in light of their history of large, destructive eruptions and proximity to populated areas. The Decade Volcanoes project encourages studies and public-awareness activities at these volcanoes, with the aim of achieving a better understanding of the volcanoes and the dangers they present, and thus being able to reduce the severity of natural disasters.
They are named Decade Volcanoes because the project was initiated as part of the United Nations–sponsored International Decade for Natural Disaster Reduction, in the 1990s.
A volcano may be designated a Decade Volcano if it exhibits more than one volcanic hazard (people living near the Decade Volcanoes may experience tephra fall, pyroclastic flows, lava flows, lahars, volcanic edifice instability and lava dome collapse); shows recent geological activity; is located in a populated area (eruptions at any of the Decade Volcanoes may threaten tens or hundreds of thousands of people, and therefore mitigating eruption hazards at these volcanoes is crucial); is politically and physically accessible for study; and there is local support for the work.
