Operation to move fish from Menindee to a healthier part of the Darling River
With warnings of a fish Armageddon for the Darling River this summer, the NSW Government has started a program to move fish to healthier waters.
It is a move to avoid a repeat of last summer's disaster in which more than a million fish died in the rapidly disappearing waters of the Darling and the Menindee Lakes.

Speculation Lake and the demise of the Menindee Lakes Scheme
This video was taken 13/12/2015 to show Speculation Lakes water level. The Menindee Lake was emptied, as we were told it would evaporate in 12 months anyway. Some 2 years on Menindee is now empty as it was drained over the 12 months but somehow a Lake right next to it still holds water. A mystery indeed.

MENINDEE LAKES. GEIST caravan tour of the region.
Menindee: The Darling River flows into the Menindee Lakes; from Wilcannia and on south towards Pooncarie and Wentworth. We came down from a week in Broken Hill and then back up to WhiteCliffs for several more days.
Our Geist caravan was camped on the shore of Lake Pamamaroo; 08 May 2013 for several days, while we explored the area. Very corrugated dirt road into the lakes for 15 km.
Australia's most famous explorers Burke and Wills passed through Menindee for their Melbourne to the Gulf of Carpentaria expedition. The expedition arrived at Menindee on October 14 1860, and made camp at Kinchega Station after crossing the Darling River. A depot camp for the expedition was established at the Pamamaroo Creek (a sign and cairn mark the site of the camp). This is shown in this Youtube video clip.
