Headed to Lake Moondarra on the outskirts of Mt Isa on our travels to try some Drone flying. Due to the airport being close to town, there is not many legal drone fly zones in town, but the lake is safe.

A bit wary still as I haven't mastered flight and film, and there were a few Raptors flying close by, but the footage I managed to get was nice and showed the size quite well.
The Lake was a project of the Mines for the town and is a great picnic area for the town. Met other travellers here, hi to Andrew & Nikki, Robert & Denny.

Mount Isa - Lake Moondarra (2017)
During a recent trip to Mount Isa I was checking through some old VHS video tapes that I had left there many years ago and I was lucky to find some old video footage across two tapes.
I was of the belief that a lot of the video that I recorded on my first cam recorder was lost forever!
Over time I will be creating video clips with this long lost video footage.
This first video was filmed around Lake Moondarra which is about 19km's North East of Mount Isa back in 1992.

We arrived in Mount Isa on our Outback Queensland Road Trip and one of the places to visit is Lake Moondarra which is just out of town.
Lake Moondarra is an artificial man made lake that was built to supply water to Mount Isa and also to the Mount Isa Mine.
This is the last video I took of Lake Moondarra and it is taken from the top of the dam.
It starts off looking out towards the surrounding land of the lake and then finishes with the lake view.
As you can see, this lake feels like it is in the middle of nowhere.

On the shore of Lake Moondarra just out of Mount Isa
So we had arrived in Mount Isa on our Outback Queensland Road Trip and one of the places to visit while we we are here is Lake Moondarra.
Lake Moondarra is an artificial man made lake that was built to supply water to Mount Isa and also to the Mount Isa Mine.
It was originally called Leichhardt Dam until they held a competition to name the dam in 1961.
It certainly is an oasis in a barren landscape.
It is similar to other dams we have been to as well.
You aren't allowed to swim but you can you can fish, boat, waterski etc on the lake.
At one stage in the lakes history they brought in tonnes of sand and made a beach for the locals to picnic on.
