Leucadia Surf School's (leucadiasurfschool.com) Surf Camp at Moonlight Beach, Encinitas, California
Today's surf camp at Moonlight Beach, we had good beginner waves.
How to Surf with Gerry Kantor of Leucadia Surf School
Entirely unscripted, improvised how to surf lesson by Gerry Kantor of Leucadia Surf School. At Moonlight beach in Encinitas, California.
Leucadia Beach surfing lessons
The three of us signed up for surfing lessons at Leucadia Beach. It was totally gnarly! We all managed to stand-ish by the end of the 2 hours as well. The beach is a gorgeous beach at the bottom of some sandy cliffs. You had to walk down a couple of dozen steps to get to the sand; walking down wasn't so bad...but walking back up with the surfboards was hell!

ENCINITAS CA ~ California coastal beach town
I drove along the California coast for a couple days. I saw some interesting towns, state beaches, locals hanging out, tourists enjoying the beaches and sun. I shot some video footage, did some photography work, metal detecting (after hearing of a Spanish ship loaded with treasure from Manila Philippines) shipwrecked long ago in the area). The Fisher Gold Bug 2 did better in the sands that I expected. I was hungry after that, found a burger joint called Angelo's, good cheeseburgers.
Encinitas California seems a bit small, because you can be driving along and suddenly you're not there anymore, off into another coastal town. I'm sure it has more people than my impression.
I thought of this town from George4title talking about it lately. Anyway, it is very beautiful, as is most of the drive up from San Diego toward Los Angeles CA.
Surfing is popular in this coast town, surfing classes, young people practicing on the small waves, lots of surf shops to buy surf boards and all you'd need. Also some how to surf schools, teachers, instruction classes.
One thing that caught me by surprise was the numbers of lonely women, especially at night, they were very much 'looking'.
Peace,

Encinitas, California Offers A Relaxed Atmosphere & Sense of Small Town
Film produced by
Encinitas, California is one of the best places to live in San Diego. The city is located in North County and is bordered by Solana Beach to the south and Carlsbad to the North.
From the beach communities of Leucadia, Old Encinitas and Cardiff, to the rural Olivenhain, there is definitely something for everyone. With a population of just under 60,000 and a median home price of roughly 1 million dollars, Encinitas, California boasts a laid back vibe that just somehow seems to make life more worth living.
Driving down the coast highway in the region of Old Encinitas and Leucadia, you’ll see the iconic Encinitas welcome arch. Tree lined streets mixed with trendy, yet casual restaurants, and a perfect mix of businesses and housing styles. You’ll likely see a yoga or pilates class ending and people walking out with a sense of bliss.
Surfers are also sure to find a great time at Swamis, a well known surfing point break.
The southernmost part of Encinitas is a small community known as Cardiff, which boasts its own zip code and approximately 12,000 total residents. A well known landmark is the Cardiff Kook which is a statue of a man surfing that locals dress up in various costumes throughout the year. Cardiff is also is home to the San Elijo state campground that sits right on the ocean bluffs. If you are lucky enough to get a campsite here, be sure to enjoy the beach or try surfing the famous Cardiff Reef. For dinner you can head to Seaside Market to grab a burgundy tri-trip to take back and cook at your campsite. And for breakfast, don’t forget about VG donuts.
Moving further east in Encinitas you will find the newer planned developments and ample shopping. A little farther east, is rural Olivenhain, where you’ll find ranch style homes on larger lots and horse properties.
There is also spectacular golfing at Encinitas Ranch, which is one of the few golf courses in San Diego. The course is located on magnificent bluffs with ocean views.
To unwind in a tranquil environment, one can step into the Self Realization & Meditation Garden and stroll through the lush plants and koi ponds. There is also the San Diego Botanical Gardens where one can explore four miles of garden trails, beautiful views, trees and the nation’s largest bamboo collection.
The relaxed atmosphere and sense of a small town in a big city is what draws people to Encinitas, California. It is truly a wonderful place to call home.

Bluff Collapse at Grandview Beach in Encinitas, CA
Three women were killed after a bluff along a beach in Encinitas, California, collapsed Friday afternoon.
Anne Clave, 35, and her mother, Julie Davis, 65, died at hospitals after tons of sandstone were unleashed Friday at Grandview Beach, the San Diego County Medical Examiner said. A family email obtained Saturday by KNSD-TV identified the third victim as Elizabeth Cox, Clave's aunt.
The victims were part of a family gathering celebrating Cox surviving breast cancer, the email said.
Rescue dogs searched through the area of Grandview Beach, popular among surfers and families, after a 30-foot-long chunk of sandstone slid onto the sand below about 3 p.m.
“They were facing the ocean,” said Encinitas Marine Safety Capt. Larry Giles. “So, it came from behind them and basically overtook them and crushed them.”
Jim Pepperdine, who lives near the beach, told the San Diego Union-Tribune that he went outside to see what was happening after hearing the sirens.
“I saw first responders, and I saw lifeguards frantically digging people out of the debris,” Pepperdine said.
Jackie Benedict described the scene to NBC 7. “It was horrible,” she said. “I can’t imagine being at the beach and your life changing in the blink of an eye.”
Rescue workers arrived at the scene about four minutes after a lifeguard heard the collapse, officials said, adding that homes near the collapse, which sit above the bluffs, were not in any danger.
Paul Brencick, a spokesman for the city, said rescuers “worked tirelessly” to finish search efforts as the rising tide started coming in that evening.
Encinitas Mayor Catherine Blakespear said in a statement: “We are devastated by the tragedy today and our hearts go out to the victims and their families. We stand ready to help in any way possible. Our engineers and the public safety team are diligently working to assess bluff conditions.”
Much of the California coastline erodes naturally, and authorities have tried to warn people who use the beach of the risk. Brencick said there were multiple signs posted at the beach, and at many other California beaches, warning individuals to stay back from the bluffs.
The type of collapse that took place on Friday, as the tide was low, is less frequent than a collapse when the waves are high and touching the bluffs, Giles said.
Officials were working to reopen the beach Saturday after having an engineer check the bluffs for a potential second collapse.
