Mahabaleshwar is the source of the Krishna River that flows across Maharashtra, Karnataka, Telangana and Andhra Pradesh. The legendary source of the river is a spout from the mouth of a statue of a cow in the ancient temple of Mahadev in Old Mahabaleshwar. Legend has it that Krishna is Lord Vishnu himself as a result of a curse on the trimurtis by Savitri. Also, its tributaries Venna and Koyna are said to be Lord Shiva and Lord Brahma themselves. An interesting thing to notice is that 4 other rivers come out from the cow's mouth apart from Krishna and they all travel some distance before merging into Krishna. These rivers are the Koyna, Venna (Veni), Savitri, and Gayatri.
Climate of the area is suitable for cultivation of strawberries, Mahabaleshwar strawberry contributes to about 85 percent of the total strawberry production in the country. It also received the geographical indication (GI) tag in 2010.
In old Mahabaleshwar, 7 km from Mahabaleshwar, there are many tourist points and 5 temple to see, with examples of old Indian architecture. There are also natural view points, some named by the British, who made holidays in these places during the British Raj.
MUST SEE- Panchaganga temple which is origin of 7 rivers-Krishna,Koyana,Gayatri,Savitri,Venna, Saraswati and Bhagirathi.Out of them, springs of first 5 are continuously flowing where as the spring corresponds to Saraswati comes alive after every 60 years (coming in 2034) and the spring correspond to Bagirathi comes after every 12 years (coming in 2016-in marathi month Shrawan)
The temple is 4500 years old

Lingmala waterfall Mahableshwar, hill station, water fall, valley, mahableshwar points,
Watch the falls through a rain-screen during the monsoon season! Excellent monsoon footage from central India...
The beautiful waterfall of Lingmala is located just 6 km away from Mahabaleshwar and is located at the top of Venna Lake. In monsoon the shining water from the lake is at its best where water plunges from a height of around 600 ft which is beautiful to watch. The best time to visit the waterfall is between July to December. Many tourists come to visit this place as this is one of the famous and amazing spot in Mahabaleshwar.
The Lingmala waterfall is best viewed in Monsoon season as the stream of the waterfall has a steep cliff coming out of the mountain in a high flow but in off season the flow is not so great and is divided by the rocks. The sight is mostly surrounded by the rainbows making us feel like heaven.
You can really enjoy a quite day in Lingmala waterfall with nothing but the sound of water with the beauty of nature and your camera will make you remember this journey for your life time.

The Lingmala Waterfall is a breathtaking and absolutely awe-inspiring waterfall that is situated on the Mahabaleshwar-Pune Road. Located just beside the forest Bungalow of Lingmala, the waterfalls provide a sense of relief and peace from the hectic work schedules and honking horns that are characteristic of the daily life, thereby becoming the perfect place for visitors to de-stress and relax.
The Lingmala Waterfall also provides a view of the beautiful Dhobi Waterfall as well as Chinaman's Waterfall. The water level is nearly 500 feet from the cliff, and the falls appear ideal during the rainy season when the area is flooded with water. A trip to Mahabaleshwar and a sure shot visit to Lingmala Falls in the city is a must. The feeling that one gets on seeing water falling majestically and gracefully high up from the cliff is indescribable and the joy experienced is indeed unparalleled. The little drops of falling water appear as streaks of silver and give a rainbow effect when the sunshine falls on it.
From the falls, this water further goes into the valley of Venna. The water falls below to a height of 600 feet, and the sound of water is so melodious that it feels as if it has a certain rhythm to it.
The most pristine form of natural beauty can be seen here as the waterfalls are surrounded by lush greenery. The Lingmala Waterfalls are the ideal picnic spot to enjoy with family and friends because of their ecstatic location, and should not be missed by nirvana seekers, photographers and nature lovers especially. This is precisely why the place is visited by thousands of residents of Mahabaleshwar as well as tourists each year to appreciate the gorgeousness and grandeur of this site.

“Best Attraction of Mahabaleshwar in the Monsoons.”
This may be about the most beautiful place in Mahabaleshwar. Your vehicles go upto the Forest Guest house. From there you have to walk down a forest path and cross a water stream.Further ahead you get to see a decent waterfall after a few initial rains. Most tourists skip this spot due to the walk through the forest.A must visit spot.
It was a rainy day... one may feel scared or have second thoughts on going to a waterfall during rains.. but it's one of the best time to go there. The path is made properly with proper railing. They also sweep and keep it neat and clean. So if you are here visit the waterfall
This waterfall is tucked away between two hills. It lies at the head of the Venna Valley. It can be accessed either from the Pune - Mahabaleshwar Road or the Satara Road. There is a small winding road through the forests leading to the falls. You can park your vehicle outside the Forest Office (Satara Van Vibhag) and buy your token to enter the ‘Lingmala Nature Trail’.
There is well paved track leading down to the falls. There are log benches to sit and rest for a while if you get tired climbing back. It takes about 10 minutes to walk down.
There are two parts of the falls. The left track leads to the minor falls, where the falling water forms a pool where one can take a dip. Be careful of the rocks, though. The right track leads to the point from where one can view the main falls, as it showers down into the valley below.
The Lingmala Falls are best visited after the start of the monsoons in July and August. Then one can see and feel the forces of nature in all its glory.
However, even at other times of the year it is a good place to visit, just to experience the walk through the forests on the Lingmala Nature Trail.
