Not Quite Square - the story of northern rivers architecture.
A film by Sharon Shostak
Produced by Lismore Regional Gallery ©2013
The Northern Rivers region of NSW is home to a multitude of wonderfully eclectic houses designed, made and lived in by people who have chosen to live outside the square. Not Quite Square: the story of Northern Rivers architecture studies this phenomenon and tracks the influence of an owner builder culture that emerged in the region after the 1973 Aquarius Festival in Nimbin.

Bennett Miller, BARNRAISER 2013
In 2013, the Gallery continued its relationship with local music festival, Splendour in the Grass through the presentation of a major new work by Western Australian artist Bennett Miller. Miller has gained note around the globe for his captivating work, Dachshund U.N., an installation involving live dachshunds representing each country at the United Nations.
In Miller's new work, Barnraiser, an old style barn raising took place in the grounds of Splendour for the duration of the festival. This sense of industriousness took place against the hedonism of the festival.
