Little Moreton Hall. National Trust. Congleton. Cheshire. UK
The earliest parts of the house were built for the prosperous Cheshire landowner William Moreton in about 1504--08, and the remainder was constructed in stages by successive generations of the family until about 1610. The building is highly irregular, with three asymmetrical ranges forming a small, rectangular cobbled courtyard. The house's top-heavy appearance, like a stranded Noah's Ark, is due to the Long Gallery that runs the length of the south range's upper floor.
Little Moreton Hall, Cheshire - inside and outside
Video of the pretty National Trust property in Cheshire - well worth a visit even if only to see the Long Galley (I want one). Wiki says
Little Moreton Hall, also known as Old Moreton Hall, is a moated half-timbered manor house 4 miles (6.4 km) southwest of Congleton in Cheshire, England. The earliest parts of the house were built for the prosperous Cheshire landowner William Moreton in about 1504–08, and the remainder was constructed in stages by successive generations of the family until about 1610. The building is highly irregular, with three asymmetrical ranges forming a small, rectangular cobbled courtyard. A National Trust guidebook describes Little Moreton Hall as being lifted straight from a fairy story, a gingerbread house. The house's top-heavy appearance, like a stranded Noah's Ark, is due to the Long Gallery that runs the length of the south range's upper floor.

Little Moreton Hall, Tudor Manor House, Cheshire, National Trust England 2018
This was a day trip we took to Little Moreton Hall in Cheshire and is halfway between Birmingham and Manchester. It is an impressive Tudor mansion house.
It is national trust so free for members to visit. If you plan to have days out and perhaps holiday in the UK like we do it is well worth becoming a member.
It is about 500 years old and we did go on the tour of the house but there is no videoing inside. We do like the guided tours as they give interesting nuggets of information and can usually answer any questions. The moat is not for defence but partly to do with being self-sufficient as they could keep fish in it. Everything was structurally straight when it was made but bits have subsided. The roof alone weighs 200 tons with the flagstones used on the roof.
Well worth a visit.

One of the National Trust's jewels in Cheshire. This historic hall looks beautiful - even on a dull day! This was filmed in 4K using a Panasonic GH4 mounted on a DJI S1000 Octopcopter.
With thanks to the National Trust.

[NT] Little Moreton Hall. Cheshire. Feb 2018
We went to visit Little Moreton Hall, Congleton, Cheshire on not the best of days, the weather was poor. Snow, sleet, rain, hailstones and bitterly cold (although it doesn't appear so in the photos), trust me, it was!
Little Moreton Hall, which was built by Sir Richard de Moreton around 1450 is arguably the finest half-timbered Tudor Manor House in England. It's very quirky, hardly any of it is straight, let alone level, but that's its unique charm. Certainly challenging for film and photographers alike. The moat wraps itself around the building and to the rear is the beautiful Knot garden.
Little Moreton Hall and its sandstone bridge across the moat are recorded in the National Heritage List for England as a designated Grade I listed building.
The house was granted to the National Trust in 1949 and gradually restored to something approaching its Elizabethan glory.
A visit is highly recommended if you get the chance.

Sleep Trail at Little Moreton Hall
A key aspect of Little Moreton Hall's 'How We Used to Sleep' sleep project, the Sleep Trail is an immersive journey through a typical Tudor night's sleep. In collaboration with artists Wild Rumpus, visitors can follow a trail through the upper floor of Little Moreton Hall and learn about the main aspects of sleep in the 16th century: preparations for bed, reassuring objects, segmented sleep, nighttime fears and circadian rhythms. People are invited to explore the similarities and differences between how the Tudors slept and how we sleep today, seeing if they can pick up any useful tips along the way. To find out more about the project visit historiesofsleep.com.
