Trinidad and Tobago
Trinidad and Tobago /ˌtrɪnɨdæd ən tɵˈbeɪɡoʊ/, officially the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago, is a twin island country off the northern edge of South America, lying just off the coast of northeastern Venezuela and south of Grenada in the Lesser Antilles. Usually considered part of the Caribbean, it shares maritime boundaries with other nations including Barbados to the northeast, Grenada to the northwest, Guyana to the southeast, and Venezuela to the south and west.
The country covers an area of 5,128 square kilometres (1,980 sq mi) and consists of two main islands, Trinidad and Tobago, with numerous smaller landforms. The two main islands are divided into nine regions, and one ward. Sangre Grande is the largest of the country's nine regions, comprising about 18% of the total area and 10% of the total population of the country. The nation lies outside of the hurricane belt.

Best Places to Visit in Trinidad and Tobago
Best Places to Visit in Trinidad and Tobago
At just 42km long and around 14km at its widest point, Tobago is a breeze to roam around. Anyone spending more than a few days on the island will quickly familiarise themselves with the roads, bays and bends, and it will all start to feel like home. You’ll never have to drive more than an hour and a half – which also means that hotel and even airport pickups may be included as part of tours. Be aware though that the easily queasy may want to limit the number of times they zigzag across the island; the roads rollercoaster along steep hillsides and motion sickness is even more of a risk than sea sickness. The reward is that every crest of a hill results in sweeping views of sapphire seas or emerald jungle; the journey really is all part of the adventure.

1950s TRINIDAD TRAVELOGUE w/ LORD INVENTOR & STEEL BAND 86294
Directed by Arthur Cohen, Steel Bands -- Tropical Music presents the Calypso singer Lord Inventor and a couple of the bands of the island of Trinidad. Lord Inventor was also known by the name Lloyd Merchant. This film was likely sponsored in part by Pan Am, which operated flights to the Piarco Airport in this era.
Trinidad (Spanish: Trinity) is the larger and more populous of the two major islands and numerous landforms which make up the island nation of Trinidad and Tobago. The island lies 11 km (6.8 mi) off the northeastern coast of Venezuela and sits on the continental shelf of South America. Though part of the South American continent, from a socio-economic standpoint it is often referred to as the southernmost island in the Caribbean. With an area of 4,768 km2 (1,841 sq mi)
Many believe the original name for the island in the Arawaks' language was Iëre which meant Land of the Hummingbird. Some believe that Iere was actually a mispronunciation or corruption by early colonists of the Arawak word Kairi which simply means Island. Christopher Columbus renamed it La Isla de la Trinidad (The Island of the Trinity), fulfilling a vow he had made before setting out on his third voyage of exploration.
