???????? Alternative Ljubljana: graffiti tour
This time we are travelling in Slovenia and we spend a few days in its beautiful capital, Ljubljana. Immediately, we go in search for the alternative, urban culture.
We follow the urban art through the Old Town, along Ljubljanica riverbanks, pass by the Rog Factory and end in the autonomous cultural zone Metelkova (Ljubljana), right in the heart of the alternative scene

Inside the castle there is the Chapel of St. George (1489), redone later in Baroque style, and decorated in 1747 with the colorful coat-of-arms of Carniolian provincial governors. We provide you with all the necessary stuff to have a fun and creative graffiti workshop, including all the materials needed (spray cans, cutting mats, knifes, markers, pre-made images) and all necessary protective gear (gloves, masks, etc). We put up some hip-hop tunes and the relaxed street art workshop can bloom!
In warm weather the workshops take place at Metelkova cultural zone (Ljubljana), more precisely at the amazing outdoor space of the Gala Hala Summer Garden (see photo below). In case of an unpleasant weather forecast we more indoors, in the Gala Hala club itself.

Ljubljana, Slovenia - Europe's Most Underrated Capital City!
Ljubljana the capital of Slovenia was the European Commission's Green Capital of Europe in 2016. Often overlooked by neighboring Italy, Croatia, Austria and Hungary, Slovenia is one of the most underrated countries in Europe and Ljubljana happens to be one of my favorite capitals in the region.
Ljubljana’s main square contains three bridges, the middle one which was opened in 1842, replaced an old, medieval wooden bridge. With it's rich history, unique architecture, alternative 'hipster' Metelkova neighborhood, eclectic food and hospitable culture, I hope you enjoy Ljubljana as much as I did!

Lake Bled Travel Guide | Day Trip from Ljubljana, Slovenia Video Transcript:
Lake Bled is probably the most popular day trip you can take from Ljubljana. This is a lake that sits on the Julian Alps, and in the middle of the lake you have a small island with a church - it’s about as picturesque as it gets and it draws massive crowds, but first, the journey there.
Bled Castle is a medieval castle that was built on a cliff rising 130 meters over Lake Bled. According to written sources, this is the oldest castle in Slovenia, first being mentioned in a document from the year 1011. The castle is set up around two courtyards which are connected with a staircase. Once you’re there, you can visit the chapel, check out some of the exhibits, watch a demonstration at the castle forge, or eat at the castle coffee shop or restaurant.
After the castle visit, we hiked back down and started our walk along Lake Bled because we were still feeling pretty stuffed from lunch. Little did we know this would take us several hours to complete.
After eating our slice of Bled Cream Cake, or Kremsnita, it was finally time to arrange a boat ride to Bled Island. While you can rent your own row boat to take out on the island, we chose to pay the 14 Euros per person to have someone else do the hard work. However, if you’re with a group of friends or travelling with family, it’s definitely cheaper to just rent a boat and row it yourself.
Bled Island is very small and it got pretty crowded even though it was low season. Forty minutes turned out to be plenty of time to climb up, have a look around, and enjoy some ice cream.
Now one last piece of advice: we visited in the off-season and at the end of the day, we found out there were not enough buses to transport everyone from Lake Bled back to Ljubljana.
We weren’t able to get on one bus because it was full, so we waited an hour and a half for the next one. By then, more day-trippers like us had gathered, and once again, not everyone could get on the bus, leaving a lot of people stranded, having to find a taxi or other alternative.
There was a lot of pushing and shoving, and many visitors with prepaid tickets were visibly upset.
Because our bus was full, this also meant that even though there were several scheduled stops on the way back to Ljubljana, we couldn’t pick up any passengers along the way, many of them who had been waiting for hours.
Lake Bled has experienced a boom in tourism, but the infrastructure to transport people hasn’t quite caught up yet. After a nice day visiting Bled, getting out of there proved to be very chaotic and stressful. Hopefully things will change in the future, but until then, know that leaving at the end can be tricky.

Graffiti Workshop, Team-building & Incentive | Alternative Ljubljana | alternativetoursljubljana.com
Graffiti Plastik Fantastik is a site-specific (pop-up) event for everyone to enjoy. It can be a workshop, a team building, an incentive, providing a unique graffiti experience for groups, collectives and families. For one person or a hundred.
Using stretch foil as a huge canvas to spray on, this event guarantees street art excitement, while keeping all your delicate surfaces safe and clean. Participants transform by dressing into multicoloured protective overalls and wearing protective marks.
Graffiti Plastik Fantastik appears in the form of unique indoor or outdoor installations. We regurally organize the event in the summer garden of the Gala Hala (in the cultural center Metelkova City) or in the club indoors when colder.
The Graffiti Plastik Fantastik can combine various creative processes, including an organised graffiti workshop, spray painting by spontaneous audience participation, DJ programme and much more. It can be introduced by a guided alternative tour Ljubljana Graffiti Tour or any other.
Graffiti Plastik Fantastik employs spray painting in a rather unconventional way: actual walls are substituted with a transparent plastic foil, which is stretched between poles or trees in order to create a working surface.
The foil is then put at the mercy of all kinds of colourful interventions by participants or passersby whose spray paint action can be either spontaneous or guided by street art instructors.
Spray cans are made available onsite to whomever wishes to express an idea. When an event takes place indoors, professional odorless water-based spray cans are employed.
Graffiti Plastik Fantastik is when fun spontaneous creativity meets direct engagement. Newly created graffiti quickly establish relationships with the surrounding environment: with architecture, landscape, trees, passers-by.
Graffiti Plastik Fantastik creates new images, new narratives, new spaces, new unexpected connections and new ties between participants. A memorable experience can be eternalized with a graffiti on canvases assembled into a puzzle that forms a final image.
