Hear the fascinating story of the Forrest Walkabout, 3000 km of Nova Scotia Coastline, 88 days, 40 plus km a day to raise awareness of NS Heart & Stroke Walkabout Program and Camp Brigadoon, a camp for children living with Chronic Illness. Emily Forrest grew up in rural New Brunswick, enjoying summer walks on Shediac beaches, fall hikes on Albert County trails and winter skating dayssecluded beaver ponds. She studied theatre and English at Acadia University in Wolfville NS and began a career on stage at the Atlantic Theatre Festival, later performing classics for schools with Exodus Theatre and also developing her skills as a playwright. After moving to Halifax, she worked for years in the service industry, managing a small bistro in the Hydrostone district and devoting her spare time to extensive travel and all things foodie. Forrest's passion for long distance walking grew and led her to plan treks of the perimeters of both Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island, a distance of more than 4000 km. Forrest organized her NS walk to build awareness for the Nova Scotia Walkabout program through the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia, and also to raise funds for the Brigadoon Children's Camp society. She has since competed a single day 100km trek from Halifax to Truro for the Diabetes Association, and is developing a walk of the New Brunswick coastline including the Gaspe Peninsula. In 2012, she launched Local Tasting Tours, a series of seasonal culinary walking tours which explore Halifax neighbourhoods on foot and include history, details and tastings of great local food at small locally owned eateries in the downtown.

Halifax Dining Tour | Scottman895 Travel Delights
Halifax, Nova Scotia is home to many great local restaurants with amazing food. I go on a dining tour to check out different restaurants throughout the city. As a special challenge as Halifax is well-known for its seafood and donair, I decide to eat different foods which do not come from the sea as well as avoid the popular donair.
1. Your Father's Moustache - Located in the shopping area along Spring Garden Rd (close to the Halifax Public Gardens), Your Father's Moustache offers great food with an outdoor rooftop patio as a dining option. If the weather is nice and warm, make sure to try the ribs as you sit on the rooftop patio.
2. The Armview - Located in the West End of Halifax, the Armview is a great family restaurant with both indoor and outdoor seating areas. I get to try the pasta pomodoro with some flatbread.
3. enVie A Vegan Kitchen - Located in the North End, enVie is a vegan restaurant offering great vegan cuisine. I enjoy some delicious pad thai at the restaurant.

My Nova Scotia: Farm to Table
In FARM TO TABLE, Zoe starts out in Halifax with Claire of Local Tasting Tours, to get a feel for the food scene in Halifax. Upon sampling some delicious ice cream from DeeDee's, however, she decides that she must go straight to the source for this assignment. She travels to farm country in the Annapolis Valley and faces her biggest challenge yet. She must fend off her overwhelming desire to make a film about the cuteness of piglets, and instead help Chef Michael Howell prepare for his pop-up restaurant at Taproot Farms. Will she succeed? Nobody knows. Those piglets are irresistible.

What to eat in Nova Scotia, Canada? Nova Scotia foods you need to try!
Nova Scotia is a great Canadian province to visit, but what should you eat when you are there? This video talks about some foods that Nova Scotia is known for and that you should definitely sample on your trip. They are available all over the province, so you shouldn't have too much trouble finding them. I really enjoyed them, and would definitely eat them again. Of course, you need to try the seafood delicacies like Atlantic lobster, scallops from the Bay on Fundy, and seafood chowder. Plus, there is also great local snack food like the Halifax donair.

How We Spent 24 Wonderful Hours in Halifax
Halifax is one of Canada's travel gems. The East Coast vibes hit us as soon as we got there and we loved the laid back charm of Halifax. We had our sights set on some great food and great beer and it didn't disappoint.
We landed at the Stubborn Goat Beer Garden. It offered a great view of the harbour to go along with some locally brewed beer from Garrison Brewing and some delicious halibut and chips. But the thing we needed most was the salty sea air and this place had it in spades.
We only had two days to spend in Halifax and we wanted to make the most of it. When we know we need to see a lot of a place in a short time, we look for some kind of bus tour to give us a feel for what's where.
Just down the waterfront boardwalk from the Stubborn Goat, we grabbed the last two seats on the Harbour Hopper, an amphibious sightseeing tour. The tour through the streets gave us a nice view of St. Paul's Cathedral, the old cemetery and the Citadel. The harbour half of the tour was a cool way to see Halifax from the water.
It was a quick one hour tour but gave us a general idea of where we could find everything on the walking tour we planned for the next day
When we asked friends from Halifax what to eat and drink, they all had the same three suggestions. Johnny K's Donairs, Cows Ice Cream and a pint of Alexander Keith's at the Lower Deck.
All three proved to be great ideas.
Halifax and the history of the donair in Canada are forever linked. Legend goes that the locals didn't like the traditional Gyro with tzatziki sauce but when they switched to a sweeter sauce the donair became an instant hit. Today, college students and other locals flock to Johnny K's on the popular Pizza Corner for a taste of the original donair style. It's a delicious combination of shaved spicy beef, tomato, lettuce, onions and sweet sauce on a pita. It was wonderful and definitely worth a return trip before we head home.
Haligonians loved beer so much that they elected Alexander Keith - the region's top beer maker - mayor. Twice. They still celebrate his birthday and you will see many pubs in town with a countdown clock to October 5th, when they raise a pint (or more) in his honour.
To get a true Keith's experience, we decided to forgo the brewery tour and went straight to the Lower Deck, a waterfront pub that is always jammed with beer and music lovers. We enjoyed some acoustic tunes and really enjoyed the Keith's. It was an East Coast tradition that we could easily get used to.
After a day touring Peggy's Cove and the coast area, we headed back for one more night in Halifax before we headed home.
We booked a last minute Distillery Harbour Cruise on the Tall Ship Silva but a passing shower threatened to keep us on shore. Fortunately it passed fairly quickly and we were able to find some shelter to stay dry. Once things cleared up, we were treated to an incredible sunset that we enjoyed along with some tasty cocktails from three Halifax distilleries. It was a perfectly romantic way to spend our last night in Halifax.
