Places to see in ( Marple - UK )
Places to see in ( Marple - UK )
Marple is a small town within the Metropolitan Borough of Stockport, in Greater Manchester, England. It lies on the River Goyt 9 miles southeast of Manchester, 9 miles north of Macclesfield and 4 miles southeast of Stockport.
Historically in Cheshire, the town lies along the Peak Forest Canal, containing the Marple Lock Flight and Marple Aqueduct. The Roman Lakes to the southeast of the town centre attracts anglers and walkers. Marple is served by two railway stations, Marple and Rose Hill, providing access to the rail network in Greater Manchester and beyond. It is also close by the Middlewood Way, a cycle path following the former Macclesfield, Bollington and Marple Railway line south from Rose Hill to Macclesfield.
In the early 1900s the town prospered from the success of cotton in nearby Stockport and Manchester; the canals in the area served as a link with other industrial towns. In 1936, Marple Urban District, at the time part of Cheshire, annexed from Derbyshire the parish of Ludworth and Mellor. Marple grew as a residential suburb of Stockport after the arrival of frequent bus and rail services in the 1920s.
The area, close to Derbyshire, covers just over 11 square miles (28 km2) of countryside, ranging from heavily wooded valleys to hill-top moorland. It rises from around 262 feet (80 m) above sea level at the River Goyt to 1,073 feet (327 m) at Cobden Edge. On a clear day it is possible to view the Beetham Tower in Manchester as well as the city centre, the Winter Hill TV transmitter and the surrounding counties of Cheshire, Derbyshire, Lancashire and West Yorkshire and the mountains of North Wales from the top of these hills.
Since 1932 Marple has had a cinema in a building designed in 1878 as a place of worship or refuge. The building was purchased in 1932 by the Marple Cinema Company and became the Regent Cinema. It remains open as one of the few independent cinemas in the UK. The town has two brass bands, the Marple Band and the Hawk Green (Marple) Band.
Marple is notable for its series of 16 canal locks, known as Marple Lock Flight, close to the village centre. The Peak Forest Canal skirts the village, north running alongside Marple Memorial Park and Brabyns Park until it reaches the Marple Aqueduct and on to Dukinfield Junction, and south towards Bugsworth Basin. Macclesfield Canal meets the Peak Forest Canal at Marple Junction, and heads towards Birmingham. The two canals form part of the Cheshire Ring canal system; the canals served as a vital link during the Industrial Revolution. Nowadays they provide an area of relaxation for walkers, anglers and boaters.
The Roman Lakes leisure complex is popular with walkers, anglers, nature lovers and horse riders. It is located in the valley bottom close to Strines. The area was named in the Victorian era as an attraction to tourists not because it had links with the Romans (also true of Roman Bridge, a packhorse bridge over the Goyt). In the area closest to the river there was a mill built by Samuel Oldknow; it is now ruined and overgrown.
Marple Hall is located close to where Marple Hall School now stands. The remains of the hall can be explored, though very little remains. The hall was the ancestral home of the Bradshaws and passed to the Isherwoods. The town lies along the A626, which runs between Glossop and Heaton Chapel. It has a junction in the centre of Marple with the B6101, which heads south to New Mills.
( Marple - UK ) is well know as a tourist destination because of the variety of places you can enjoy while you are visiting the city of Marple . Through a series of videos we will try to show you recommended places to visit in Marple - UK

Exploring oldest house in Manchester
Hi explorers!
After many failed explores we've found one of the oldest houses in Britain (Hough hall Moston). We decided to film our findings as per usual. Everything seemed normal for an exploration video. Old possessions, sunken floors, rotten wood. However we then found a full lock of girls hair in one of the rooms. At this point we decided to call an end to the explore. This could be anything, however there is a children's school right next to this building...Should we have notified the police? Have we over reacted?
If you are new around here.
We're an exploration and adventure

Save Ten Acres Lane Sport Centre
Ten Acres LAne Indoor Sport Centre is located in Newton Heath, Manchester, England.
It was opened in 1991 by England and Manchester United football legend, Sir Bobby Charlton for the people of Newton Heath and the surrounding communities.
However, Manchester City Council plan to close the facility for much of the part and give it to the GB Taewkondo Team to train for the 2010 London Olympics, with little or no benefit other than saving money.
This facility is vital for the local residents to stay in shape and is one of very few local sporting resources in the local area.
Many local groups, youth clubs, associations, children and adults alike use the facility.
Whilst Newton Heath would be proud to have a national team in the area, it shouldn't come at such a heavy cost as to force local people out what as become a focus for the community in terms of sport and cohesion.
Show sure support and write to your local councillors and MP's and help stop the destruction of our community assets.
Please join the campaign and voice your opinions.

The business was founded as the Yale Lock Manufacturing Co. in Stamford, Connecticut, in 1868 by Linus Yale, Jr., the inventor of the pin tumbler lock, and Henry R. Towne.[1]
The name was later changed to Yale & Towne.[1] Linus Yale, Sr. registered 8 patents with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office between 1843 - 1857 about his pin tumbler safe lock, safe lock, bank lock, vault and safe door bolt and padlock.[1]
In the twentieth century the company expanded worldwide through purchases, acquisitions and joint ventures with other companies in the industry and employed more than 12,000 people.
It established a British operation by acquiring the business of H&T Vaughan, a long-established lock manufacturer in Wood Street, Willenhall, the historic centre of the British lock industry, and became the major employer in the town. Yale locks became the generic term in the UK for pin-tumbler household locks and keys, although Yale neglected the service business and effectively gave away the lucrative aftermarket business in replacement key-blanks, which sold in the millions annually.
The British Yale became involved with the early motor industry and supplied locks to various manufacturers until the early thirties when the cheaper diecast-based leaf-tumbler technology became available. Yale saw an unexpected revival of activity in the motor trade from the 1960s onwards when security fitters adopted its 'M69' window lock as a simple add-on fitting to prevent theft, especially on vans. This continued to the early 1990s, when it was superseded by electronic devices.
The British Yale had continued to supply all lock requirements to Rolls-Royce Motors until 1991, when there was an acrimonious parting. The British business had been sold by its parent to the Valor Company in 1987. After a further takeover by Williams Holdings, various sections of the Willenhall operation and outlying operation such as their diecasting foundry were closed. Ultimately this led to all work being outsourced to the Far East, and the entire Wood Street site was closed soon thereafter and demolished, after having employed generations of skilled local people.

Nathan Bellfield (03/02/93) of Robinson Street, Edgeley was jailed for 6 years.
Phillip Clarke (15/03/87) of Lymm Close, Bridgehall was jailed for 5 years 6 months.
Between 6 June and 30 July 2015 the group committed 15 burglaries across the North West.
On 7 June 2015 they stole a Mini Countryman car from a property in Bramhall and on 15 July 2015 they stole a Black VW Golf from a property Crescent Road, Portwood, Stockport.
The group then used the cars to transport them in their burglary spree, which spanned across Greater Manchester, Cheshire, Staffordshire and Derbyshire.
In some instances the group used using heavy duty equipment, such as angle grinders and sledge-hammers, to force their way into the premises, which were mainly shops, where they stole alcohol and cigarettes. ATM machines were also targeted at premises such as banks and off-licenses, where stihl saws were used to cut through the lock and back doors to the machines.
In total they stole over £100,000 of cash and goods and caused approximately £52,000 worth of damage to the premises they burgled.
Police Constable Richard McCorry said: This group organised and orchestrated a burglary spree that spanned across the North West.
They were so determined that they used sledge-hammers to smash their way in to some shops and showed absolutely no signs of stopping.
I hope these sentences show the lengths we will go to, to stop organised criminals from blighting our communities and damaging people's lives and businesses.
