In this Episode, we travel to Santa Marta, a town on the Caribbean Coast of Colombia and embark on a 5-day trek to the ancient ruins of the Lost City with an awesome team from Guías y Baquianos (
The Lost City trek is known to be a very challenging yet rewarding hike stretching for over 75 kilometres through the lush jungle surrounding the Sierra Nevada mountains. The hike was not only a test of endurance but an eye opening journey into the life of another civilization.

How To Prepare For Ciudad Perdida Trek | What To Pack (and what NOT pack)
What should you #pack to go on the #CiudadPerdida Trek (also known as #TheLostCity) in Santa Marta, Colombia? Watch us completely unload our bags showing you exactly what we brought so that you are prepared when you go.
Something to note is that Colombia has what’s called “Rainy” and “Dry” seasons. “Rainy Season” is between May-November & “Dry Season” is between November-May.
We went on The Lost City Trek during the DRY season, in March of 2019. This packing video is for people hiking in the dry season. However, if you’re going during rainy season, you would need to consider rain gear.

In the steam jungle clad mountains of Colombia's Sierra Nevada Mountains lies an ancient city of the Tayrona people. Near Santa Marta on the Caribbean coast, we trekked for three days up into the mountains spend to spend New Years 2007 in the Lost City.
The indigenous Kogui people wholive in these mountains are the pure descendants of the Tayrona people, whose ancient city we were currently on route to visit. They still believe in animism and go about their lives just like their ancestors did 1500 years ago.

Ciudad Perdida - The Lost City, Colombia in 4K Ultra HD
Ciudad Perdida (The Lost City) is one of the wonders of Colombia and South America and one of South America's most popular trekking destinations. The trek is 44 km/27 mi round trip, and takes 4 days to complete. The hike is strenuous because of the heat, humidity, mud, bugs, and steep ascents and descents.
Ciudad Perdida (Known locally by its indigenous name of Teyuna) has been founded around 800 CE, and abandoned after the Spanish colonization. Rediscovered in the 1970s, and up to today only small part of the area has been uncovered. Located in the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta mountains (declared a biosphere reserve by UNESCO).

Trekking to the Lost City of Ciudad Perdida deep in the Colombia jungle. This was a trip to remember and one of the best hidden gems of Colombia!
Ciudad Perdida is an ancient city in Colombia that is older than Machu Picchu. It’s a challenging trek with ancient ruins, jungle, river crossings, native villages, and waterfalls. Ciudad Perdia is also one of the largest pre-Columbian towns discovered in South America.
Ciudad Perdida is in the Sierra Nevada coastal mountains near Santa Marta. It can only be accessed on foot, which makes it one of the less-travelled spots in Colombia, but well-worth it if you can make it there!

Day 1 of 4 - Explore #CiudadPerdida also known as #TheLostCity with us here in Santa Marta, Colombia.
This 4-Day Trek is not for the faint of heart. We were told that it was 30 km each direction... After we completed the Trek, we found out that it is a lot more than that distance with considerable gain in altitude. We highly recommend that you are in decent shape to participate.
However, after speaking with one of the Expotur Guides, he mentioned that the oldest person that completed the hike was 75 years old. So, don’t use age as an excuse because it is not a factor in whether you could complete this hike, or not.
