Juneau is a beautiful outdoor play ground for family and group travel. Located about 30 miles west of Juneau; Doc's lodge is situated along the shoreline of Excursion Inlet. It is nestled amidst the towering peaks of the St. Elias Mountains in Southeast Alaska. Gustavus, headquarters for Glacier Bay National Park, is a short 12 miles to the west.
Terror Below Alaska Waters.
Alaska. That territory northwest of America, with more than a million square kilometers. If Germany, Poland, and France came together, they would barely manage to reach the size of this state. If it were an independent nation, it would be the 18th largest country in the world.
Alaska also has 100,000 glaciers and huge forested areas where wildlife proliferates.
In addition, it has more than 10,600 kilometers of coastline; that's more than the rest of the United States combined. These beaches are full of marine animals, such as killer whales and seals, but also underwater monsters.

In the early 1900's, the swell of gold rush activity
moved alaska's political and economic focus north to
the town of juneau.
Juneau is a busy modern city thrust up against a
15,000 square mile ice capped range of mountains
with water on the other side. In alaska nature dwarfs
Human achievement and yet up against these elemental
forces, the people persist and even thrive. Not only
Do they thrive -- they have fun!
Juneau still has the rollicking energy of those two
miners joe juneau and richard harris who discovered
Gold here in the 1880s. In the 1940's the mines closed
and government replaced mining as the chief occupation,
but juneau never lost that frontier sense of optimism
And excitement. There are, of course, all the modern
buildings that one would expect in a state capitol,
But the real flavor of juneau is that of the old west.
where the sidewalk ends, the undaunted citizens of this
flamboyant town didn't quit. They took their buildings
up the hill. Its not hard to imagine what those days
And nights were like during the peak of the gold boom,
And still today, the alaska hotel with its antique
Furnishings shows what a visitor to this town could
Expect in the way of accommodations back in the days
When gold was king and victoria was queen.
but unlike old western towns of the lower forty-eight,
Juneau has a glacier within walking distance!
The famous mendenhall glacier is receding, and as it does
The land hungry people of juneau follow it with buildings.
because of its geographic limitations, the city of juneau has
trouble finding the space it needs. Ironically, it's
Actually the second largest city in the world! ......
In terms of geographical size,
but one of the smallest in terms of usable space.
it's the capital of the state of alaska but a capital
without room to grow.
in 1974 the people of alaska voted to move the state
Capital to anchorage, but they never voted in the funds
For the move. Today juneau remains the political capital,
But because of its location and its room for growth,
anchorage has become the financial capital of alaska

Alaska's Kiska & Attu Islands - Seaplane Mission
The question will be: WHICH MISSION DO YOU WANT TO GO ALONG ON FIRST?
A --- Ron is planning to fly up to Alaska summer 2020 in the 208 Cessna Caravan Amphib. This video describes 1 of 2 substantial side missions that may be included in that trip, or on a following trip in future years. This mission will be to explore strategic parts of Kiska Island where almost no one can access and where almost no one, if anyone, has been. Ron will attempt to land and document WW2 artifacts that had been left by the combined US and Canadian Naval invasion force, which landed on this beach and liberated the island in the spring of 1943.
Kiska Island is located in an extremely remote region at the end of Alaska's Aleutian island chain that splits the churning and dangerous Bering Sea to the north and the open Pacific Ocean to the south. The climate there is engulfed in a unique semi-permanent low-pressure system, which yields constant high winds, heavy rains and dangerous foggy weather conditions.
B --- The next episode will give an overview of the other planned mission, which would be to travel to the Northwest Territory's northern edge in an attempt to try to locate a certain unfound relic of the famed Mad Trapper the Rat River.

RV'ing Alaska's Inside Passage
The adventure begins on beautiful Vancouver Island in British Columbia with a visit to Telegraph Cove, possibly the best place on Earth to view Orca (killer whales). We continue north to Ketchikan, Alaska's first city on the Inside Passage. Here we explore the spectacular Misty Fjords National Monument by kayak and float plane. We also learn about the art of totem pole carving and watch as they are created. A short side trip by ferry takes us to Prince Of Wales Island, which has more than 2,000 miles of logging roads for exploration. The island is also known for its luxury fishing lodges.
Wrangell calls itself Alaska's Hidden Jewel and is paradise for those seeking outdoor adventure! Many say that if you're looking for the real Alaska, you'll find it here. The Anan Bear Observatory is considered to be one of the best in the state and the only place where black and brown bears feed together. We take an exciting jet boat tour up the Stikine River - the last great un-dammed river on the continent - and visit Telegraph Creek as well as the Grand Canyon of the Stikine.
The ferry becomes part of the adventure as we head north through the Wrangell Narrows - the single most difficult navigational stretch on the Passage. Petersburg is Alaska's Little Norway and Southeast's busiest processing port, home to the area's largest fishing fleet. Sitka was once the Russian capital of Alaska and is one of the most beautiful spots on our route. We explore the town's history and native culture. The Alaska Raptor Center offers a close-up at eagles. A wildlife cruise to St. Lazaria Island lets us observe whales, puffins, sea lions and otters. A snorkeling tour reveals Alaska's underwater world.
Juneau is the state capital. The biggest attraction is Mendenhall Glacier, which we explore with an exciting helicopter tour and glacier trek. Some of the best humpback whale watching is within a short boat ride of town. Incredible glacier calving and towering cliffs can be seen at nearby Tracy Arm. Side trips take us to beautiful Glacier Bay and the quirky little town of Pelican.
Our adventure ends with a tour of historic Skagway and more wilderness adventures in Haines, including a river tour, an air boat ride and panning for gold.
