Lousios river and free horse riding in Arcadia Greece
A weekend in Arkadia, along with good friends. This is the last video you see out of my canon 70D.
I had many more scenes fighting for my life in the mighty Lousios river but I needed the video to be as long as the song.
If you feel you could spend more time watching a video like this, let me know in the comments and I'll upload a longer video next time.
I really appreciate all of you, who are getting me started with your views (and some likes hopefully)
I do not wish to make money out of this clip and that's why I don't mind using copyrighted music.
I bought the new sony a6500 and I can't wait to bring some cool footage back home to edit!
In case you are visiting Arkadia and you want to try some horse riding or rafting at Lousios river let me know at karkalis@me.com so I can give you some tips in order to have the best experience possible.
cheers ;)
ps: no color grading. I just added some fade effect.

LOUSIOS (Gortynia, Arcadea, Greece) RIVER FLOW is a video in which I try to show the strength and purity of this legendary river where the known Pausanias walked and it is said that he states in one of his exploring tours that Lousios has the coldest waters in Greece. More to come... I hope.

The Lousios (Greek: Λούσιος) is a river and a gorge in western Arcadia that stretches from Karytaina north to Dimitsana in Greece. The river begins near Lykochori and flows through the Lousios Gorge. The river is treacherous and flows rapidly. It empties into the Alfeios 2.5 km northwest of Karytaina and south of Atsicholos.
The river forms a deep, narrow gorge. Its length is approximately 15 km from north to south and its width is approximately 2 km wide. The gorge is very popular amongst hikers. At the northern end of the gorge lies the town of Dimitsana. At the southern end is the ancient city of Gortys with the temple of Asclepius. Much of the gorge is heavily forested, and there are steep cliffs.
According to tradition, the river took its name from Zeus, the father of the Olympian gods, who according to Pausanias washed at its sources after his birth. Pausanias also considered Lousios the coldest river in the known world.[1] The Lousios gorge is also known as the Mount Athos of the Peloponnese on account of the many monasteries that dot its walls: the Timiou Prodromou, Philosophou, Aimyalon, Panagias Kalamiou monasteries, and the Church of St. Andrew in Gortys.[1] The gorge also features several old water-mills for tabac and gunpowder production.[1]Ο Λούσιος είναι ποταμός της Πελοποννήσου, παραπόταμος του Αλφειού, με μήκος περίπου 23 χιλιομέτρων.

Prodromos Monastery and River Lousios in Arcadia, Peloponnese
The monastery of Prodromos (full name, Monastery of Timiou Prodromou) is literally carved in the rock as you can see in the video. It is situated inside the Lousios river gorge. It cannot be reached directly by car. You take the road either from Stemnitsa (north) or from Elliniko (south) and park on a designated area where you can see a small church (middle part of the video, from 6:57 to 8:02) and then walk for 800 meters inside the lush nature. The monastery was built in the 16th century, although a type of core edifice in the rock existed from 1068 AC.
The Lousios gorge begins from another designated parking area 3 kms south of the one for the monastery. You can leave you car there and walk alongside the river. There is an old bridge, some ancient ruins and an old byzantine church in the vicinity (as you can see in the video). During the summer people can take a dip in the river. If you continue north the trail will take you to the moastery of Prodromos, various other churches, Dimitsana, up to the Karkalou strait where it ends (or begins depending the direction you decide to take!!)

Leontari Castle - Karnionas River Bridge, Leontari Arcadia Greece
At the northeastern end of mountain Taygetos with green valleys at an altitude of 540 meters and just 11 km from Megalopolis, is Leontari, picturesque village with a long history that goes back many centuries.
According to the tradition, the area took its name from an official during the reign of Byzantine emperor Alexios Komninos, named Leontaris (or Leontarios) at the beginning of the 12th century between 1081 A.D. and 1118 A.D. However, it is said that the Byzantine castle of Leontari from a distance looked like a seated lion, At that place, according to some sources there was a sculptural representation of a lion that was once decorated the area during late antiquity.

Rafting Lousios River Peloponnese Greece
Rafting in Peloponnese can be an adrenaline rush or a pleasant touristic ride depending on the location and the time of year. The direct contact with the water in combination with the sail through majestic landscapes that change quickly will increase your adrenaline. Rafting in Lousios river is a very popular destination as the view is magnificent going through cloisters built on vertical rocks. From April up to October the first part of the river is easy for everyone and there are companies operating there. Erymanthos River also offers a beautiful rafting experience, with frequent passes of third-fourth difficulty degree. However, in the winter it is more impetuous and it is not recommended. The ideal period is from March till November. A fascinating experience, that anyone who dares try it, would not be disappointed. According to mythology, Lousios is the river where god Zeus washed after his birth at the river's sources. Travelers who decide to go hiking in this enchanted region will feel like explorers in an unknown place they might discover the region's hidden monasteries called Prodromou and Philosofou. Walking by the river side makes people admire this mysterious place. The sound of the flowing water, the shadows that the trees cast upon the ground and the hikers, contribute to the mysterious feeling that surrounds all those who pass by the region. Rafting on the river might be a challenging experience but the adrenaline caused by this extreme sport, makes all those involved feel unprecedented power.
Arcadia (ancient Region)
There is also a modern regional unit of Greece of the same name, which is more extensive than the ancient region.

Driving from Vrina (village) to a location near Alfeios' river mouth. The last part of the road before the river is in bad condition. The road is straight, tempting the driver to step on the gas but the road surface is worn out at some points and the last meters before the river aren't covered with asphalt.
