Chocolate Monkey King: Ukrainian confectioners create 17kg candy masterpiece
Candy making is no monkey business in Ukraine’s eastern city of Kharkiv. A 17 kilogram chocolate monkey king has been molded from pure chocolate. It took painstaking work and dedication, Ukrainian confectioners made over a dozen unsuccessful chocolate models before finally constructing the sweet masterpiece. He is worth more than USD 400.
Serhiy Stepanenko, director of confectionary factory:
“ For almost two months our development director practically lived with this monkey in our factory. We made the form ourselves. Trust me this is very difficult because chocolate hardens quickly. We used 20 kg of chocolate and made the form manually. We really wanted to make a monkey.”
No additives or preservatives were added confectioners say, only cocoa beans, cocoa butter and sugar were used. The monkey king is currently on display, ((04.25-04.30)) the sign beside him reminds customers not to touch or bite him, while he awaits his new owner.
Since 2016 is the year of the monkey it’s easy to find a chocolate primate in stores across the country.

Mazet, chocolates and confectionery
Our family House, true to our Prasline recipe created in 1636,
continues creating new recipes each year in line with our centuriesold
tradition.
The birth of the Framboizette, an exquisite grilled caramelized
almond, lightly dipped in coffee flavoured dark chocolate, then
covered in a white raspberry coating, results in a perfect balance of
flavors. This specialty, which is similar to the Mazettes (crunchy
almond covered in pistachio paste and white chocolate), was
created a year ago and features prominently in our assortment
boxes.
This year, we wanted to pay tribute to our profession as Master
Confectioner, with the Prasline in pride of place. To this end, our ten
specialties are presented in Grand Confiseur coffrets designed by
Pauline Ricard-André. Two elegant boxes contain four or six
specialties, and a majestic coffret contains eleven, letting you
discover our entire specialty range.
In a more classic style, our Boîte Friandises comes directly from
our archives and in five different sizes. The larger box includes our
two latest creations, Mazettes and Framboizettes.
Our two Trio boxes present an excellent selection of our Praslines,
with the new varieties we developed in recent years.
And last, but not least, we have added two new praliné recipes to
our prestigious range; Pistachio - Coffee, and a beautiful Ganache
with Cardamon, a daring Pineapple Almond paste and Milk
Chocolate Nougatine.
None of the ingredients used in our chocolates have ever been
frozen.
Several new creations are in the process of development in our
workshops based on an association of flavours - olive and hazelnut,
fig and almond, or the delicious “Hazelnuts Praliné” which includes
a light mousse.
You'll probably see these innovations appearing in our Montargis
and Paris stores in the coming months. Check our website for the
latest news and be the first to discover the Salon de Chocolat in
Paris (November 2015), Vaux le Vicomte (November 2015) and
Tokyo (January 2016).
Proud of our tremendous history, we honour our House by
continuing the tradition inspired by our past to develop new
creations with you for a delicious and elegant future.
