Lily was the youngest contestant ever (7 years old) to make it into the top 10 and get to perform with a live band to an audience of 250 at the Lyceum Theater. She was so good! I was so proud of her, beautiful & talented & sweet.
What is 'Hand to God'? San Diego Repertory Theatre
Find out from the cast, director Sam Woodhouse and star of the show, Tyrone, what this hilarious new play is all about.
Hand to God runs October 19 - November 12, 2017 on the Lyceum Stage at San Diego Repertory Theatre.
Hand to God
by Robert Askins
Directed by Sam Woodhouse
Something devilish is lurking in a church basement puppet show in Cypress, Texas. And his name is…Tyrone. He may look like an innocent sock puppet, but when he infiltrates the angst-ridden church youth group and takes possession of Jason’s arm, all hell breaks loose. Spectacularly foul-mouthed and wickedly scandalous, Tyrone shocks the congregation with his outrageous insinuations, exposing their deepest secrets—and teaching us all about love, grief and what it means to be human. A smash success on Broadway and in London, this darkly delightful and wildly funny comedy is the most produced play in America!
“This play is about me. I’m the star. This bunch of losers at San Diego REP is lucky to have me. But they better watch out, because if I don’t get my way I’m gong to trash the dressing rooms. Anyway, come check me out. I’m funny when I’m not ruining things…come to think of it I’m funniest when I AM ruining things (EVIL LAUGH).” –Tyrone the puppet
Note: Hand to God features explicit language.

Metallica live in San Diego at the SDSU Backdoor Theater 3-9-1985
A rather poor quality audio of Metallica's 1st gig in San Diego. I'm posting this strictly because of it's historical significance to the San Diego thrash metal scene.... Armored Saint was the opening act on this date of their co-headlining tour.... Me and some friends got to the venue early in hopes of getting a prime spot right up against the security fence.... Mission accomplished, and during the middle of Armored Saint's 1st or 2nd song the fence collapsed, halting the show while the fence was reinstalled and buried bodies (including myself) were stood upright again.... After escaping certain death, I ended up on the stage, turned to the crowd and gave the traditional sign of the horns, then promptly made my way backstage, where I remained for Armored Saints set.... Sat behind the stacked speakers (within arms length of Cliff Burton!!!!) during most of Metallica's set, then ventured into the crowd towards the end.... Another highlight would be meeting Kirk, Lars and Cliff before the gig, taking photo's, getting autographs, talking metal.... They were so humble/cool/unpretentious, they seemed genuinely happy to be hanging with us.... A lowlight would be some booing during Fade to Black (guilty as charged).... Also a short set for Metallica, apparently due to the co-headlining agreement with Armored Saint.... Catching wind of a certain band named SANTA CLAUS claiming to be San Diego's only thrash metal band, which later turned out to be a future highlight for yours truly....

TRIXIE MATTEL ANNOUNCES 2020 NORTH AMERICAN TOUR
29-DATE “TRIXIE MATTEL: GROWN UP” TOUR TO SLAY NORTH AMERICA NEXT FEBRUARY & MARCH
Today, Trixie Mattel has announced a massive 29-date 2020 AEG North American tour, “Trixie Mattel: Grown Up”. The tour will take the pop culture icon, country music groundbreaker and winner of RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars across the continent including stops in New York, Boston, DC, San Francisco, Chicago, Philadelphia, Seattle, LA, and more next February & March.
“Trixie Mattel: Grown Up” will find Trixie reinventing the hilarious charm of her previous tours (“Ages 3 and Up”, “Now With Moving Parts”, “Super Bowl Cut” and “Skinny Legend”), creating an intoxicating mix of her unparalleled sense of deranged and perfectly delivered humor, with her serious musical chops, often including Trixie accompanying herself on guitar and autoharp.
This time around, Trixie will be joined for the first time by a full band, signaling a more plugged-in sonic shift for the global folk chart-topper that was first hinted at when her latest single “Yellow Cloud” dropped earlier this year. Rolling Stone said the song “leaps forth with bright strums of electric guitar, vintage garage-rock organ flourishes and instantly hummable, wordless melodies that recall peak period New Pornographers.”
Today’s tour announcement continues major momentum for an artist that has time and time again redefined what it means to be a drag queen in this day & age. Aside from her past touring success, she has released two albums ‘Two Birds’ & ‘One Stone’ (currently working on her third) and topped the Billboard Heatseekers Albums chart and the iTunes Singer/Songwriter chart. Trixie has turned her success as a hilarious stand-out and champion on RuPaul’s Drag Race into pop culture gold, also co-creating and starring in the wildly successful comedy web show UNHhhh with fellow Drag Race alum Katya Zamolodchikova, which was later adapted into the Viceland program The Trixie & Katya Show. Trixie is the subject of the documentary Trixie Mattel: Moving Parts which premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival last spring, and she also recently released her new comedy special “Trixie Mattel: Skinny Legend”. She is also the founder and CEO of her own cosmetics line Trixie Cosmetics, which aims to bridge the gap between a youthful fun irreverent spirit & high quality products.

CSUN Distinguished Alumni Awards 2014: Phil & Gayle Tauber
Philip Tauber '68 (Music) and Gayle Tauber '72 (Political Science) are a genuine dynamic duo. They bring a driving passion to everything they do, from their personal pursuits to the entrepreneurial arena where they have been involved for the last 40 years. The couple, who married in 1968 while students at then-San Fernando Valley State College, went on to create several businesses, most notably, Kashi Company, an innovative natural food product enterprise that grew into an international company.
As a young married couple in 1970s, they started their first business. After identifying a need and market gap, they created The Plant Pusher, an indoor plants business with national sales; pioneered the plant and tree maintenance and rental service industries; and distribution to reach everywhere from business offices to supermarkets. Along the way, they created several new, related products, such as beaded macramé plant hangers.
The Taubers sold that business and partnered in 1978 with Vince Gironda, legendary bodybuilder and celebrity trainer. Working with Gironda, the Taubers soon were at the forefront of private training with the first co-ed gym, as well as diet and supplement products for athletes.
In 1981, they moved to San Diego with their two daughters. With a continued interest in the growing physical fitness market, the Taubers tapped their nutritional knowledge and searched for a high-protein, high-complex carbohydrate, low-fat and low-sodium natural food source. That was the beginning of the Kashi Company, a producer and marketer of institutional and retail consumer cooking and ready-to-eat cereals and cereal-based products. The couple were marketing mavericks, pioneering end-of-the-race feeding at athletic events; partnering with and supporting nonprofits that used athletic events to promote their causes; and creating a Kashi Army concept prior to social networking. After 18 years of operations, Kellogg's purchased Kashi in 2000.
The Taubers currently serve as CEO and chairman of Seedling Fund LLC, a family investment company that takes positions in first-stage companies. The couple is very active in philanthropic and civic activities. Gayle is past president of The Trusteeship, an affiliate of the International Women's Forum, co-founder and immediate past co-president of Women Give San Diego, past board member of the Women's Foundation of California and San Diego Women's Foundation. She is an artist and a devoted athletic enthusiast.
Philip is a composer and accomplished musician/trumpet player who backs up visiting international artists through his affiliation with the Musicians' Association of San Diego County. His book, Solo Fluency: Jazz Improvisation for Trumpet, is used worldwide by professional and amateur players. Philip is a director of the Scripps Institute of Oceanography, UC San Diego, past board member of San Diego's Lyceum Theater and Los Angeles-based Center for Jewish Culture and Creativity. He is currently a board member of Yapert, an online celebrity social media company. Philip additionally studies and practices all forms of martial arts.
The Taubers are still Valley kids at heart. They grew up, met and married in the San Fernando Valley, are proud parents and grandparents, and have shared their resources with CSUN as donors to the Valley Performing Arts Center Fund.
