After waking up at Xieng Khouang, Andy Myers goes to see the Plain of Jars - Site 1. It is not a very tourists place with almost no one there. The Jars are giants pots make of rocks, some of them have lid, some not, and the variation in size is very big. At the Plain of Jars the MAG (Mines Advisory Group) - Unexploded Ordnance (UXO) still cleaning the area from the land mines and recommends to you to stay inside a path that was cleaned already. The Palin of Jar is along the Ho Chi Ninh trail, which was heavily bombed during the Vietnam War. Andy Myers walks thru the jars and bombs crates until arrive on a cave where people was hiding during the war time as planes dropped bombs on it killing almost everyone inside. I the city you can see many bombs shell being used as decoration in restaurants, hotels, etc. ALso you can visit the MAG (Mines Advisory Group) - Unexploded Ordnance (UXO) Visitor Information Centre.
After leaving the Jars, Andy Myers goes to check if the bike is ready to ride at the workshop he left the bike on the night before. The bike starts on the first try and it is time to get back to the road. A little bit of riding under the rain, one of his favorite thing, to stop at a top of a hill where there are some restaurants and shops. The view point at the top of the hill where you can see a lot of the amazing landscape of Laos with its many mountains and how it is green the country.
After that Andy Myers gets back to the road, but it start to get dark quick and he stops at the same place from the episode #2 (Vang Vieng) to sleep.
Next day a quick breakfast by the river and paved road towards Vientiane, but before that one more quick stop at a workshop to a quick fix on the bike. After that it is just a great and easy ride to Vientiane to finish this amazing ride.
NEVER STOP RIDING.
PLAIN OF JARS, Phonsavan, Laos (A Rorne Tan Documentary Film 2014)
One of the greatest experience exploring this Plain of Jars at Phonsavan, Laos is not the destination but the journey itself. Nothing beats the feeling of being there when you witness thousands of giant stone jars scattered around the Xieng Khouang plain in Laos that form one of the most bizarre archaeological collections ever recorded in history. These jars appear in clusters and range from a single jar to several hundred on the lower foothills surrounding the central plain and upland valleys. With beautiful surrounding landscapes blending this historical find, it made my trip to Phonsavan the most memorable experience ever when I hiked the famous Site 1, 2 and 3 of the Plain of Jars area.

Bombie Family Interview Part 1
This is an interview with a Lao man and his three young daughters in 2004 about a year after his wife was killed by a bombie when they were working on their rice paddy. I had met him two weeks after the bombie incident while I was leading my second study tour to Laos and we were in Phonsavan to visit the Plain of Jars and visit the UXO Lao facilities because I wanted the teachers to see what the legacy the Lao faced after American bombing during the Secret War. A Tragic UXO Story
Bounpheng is a medical assistant in the Lao army earning about $15 (150,000 kip) a month. Life had been a constant struggle for him and his wife and three daughters, ages 5, 3, and 1 and finally after five years he and his wife saved enough money to buy a small plot of land which they then planned to develop into a rice paddy. One morning in early June 2003 he, his wife and children all walked to their newly acquired land where he and his wife then began the arduous work of preparing it for rice planting. In the middle of the land, there was a pile of dirt that looked like a termite hill. He and his wife tried to flatten the termite hill and as noon time approached his wife told him to leave early to take care of the baby so she could continue to work a little bit more. As soon as Bounpheng turned away, he heard a loud explosion and saw his wife laying on the ground covered in blood.
There was no one near he could call for help and so he picked up his wifes limp and lifeless body and carried it back to his home. His five year daughter carried the baby and all were crying, wondering what had happened to their mother.
Back at his home other villagers came and saw there was nothing they could do for his wife, but saw that he too had been injured and was taken to the hospital. The village helped him out with the funeral of his wife, but he was not provided any compensation by the government and his army unit only gave him 25,000 kip, about $2.50
He and his wife had thought the land was safe, as it had been farmed before, and the termite hill was small, but as his wife had been chopping at some roots there must have been a bombie lodged unseen.
Where life had been a struggle before his wife had died, but with the hope that together they could work together at improving their life, no life seems overwhelming, with little hope. Bounpheng is an orphan and so doesnt have any relatives to help him with taking care of his children and often has to take his children to work.
Laos Essential Artistry and Jim Harris, from Wausau, Wisconsin, have provided some monetary support (approximately $200), with the goal that Bounpheng makes sure his daughters stay in school. The oldest daughter should be about 12 years old now (Feb. 2010)
PLAIN OF JARS (LAOS) : THE WAR IS NOT OVER YET.
40 years after the Indochina War the Plain of Jars is still riddled with unexploded bombs. Today, locals recycle scrap metal from bombs into jewelry. Unexploded cluster bombs (bombies) remain dangerous. As an important archaeological site, the Plain of Jars could be listed as UNESCO World Heritage. But to be listed and for the safety of the locals, the Plain first needs to be cleared of unexploded bombs. Support the Mines Advisory Group : maginternational.org

HKYOYOWING present: Play Yoyo Everywhere Chapter 8 - Laos(Part 2)
