Situated on Jalan Brigjen Katamso Street in the heart of Medan, capital city of North Sumatra Province, The Maimun Palace is an elegant heritage site, an iconic landmark of Medan and the pride of its people.
The Maimun Palace is a legacy of the Sultanate of Deli, whose seat was in Medan. This kingdom was once part of the Aceh Sultanate but seceded from it in 1669. Maimun Palace was built by the 9th Sultan of Deli, Sultan Maimun Al Rasyid Perkasa, under whose auspices construction began on 26th August 1888 and completed on 18th May 1891.

Istana Maimun termasuk salah satu bangunan Bersejarah dan mejadi Ikon Kota Medan. Istana ini dibangun dengan ciri khas Melayu dengan warna kuning, sebagai istana kebesaran Kerajaan Deli pada masa saat zaman dahulu dan di sebut juga Istana Putri Hijau.
Istana Maimun mulai dibangun pada tanggal 28 Agusutus 1888 oleh Sultan Mahmud Al Rasyid, selesai pada 18 Mei 1891. Bangunan istana terdiri dari 2 lantai dan memiliki 3 bagian yaitu, bangunan induk, bangunan sayap kanan dan bangunan sayap kiri, bangunan induk sebagai tempat Singgasana Raja, Desain istana dengan gaya Tradisional Istana-istana melayu dan pola India Islam (Moghul) yang terlihat dari bentuk lengkungan atap.

The Maimun Palace (Istana Maimun) was built between 1887--1891. Until today the palace is home to the Sultan of Deli though the Sultan no longer holds any official power.
In front of the Palace a couple of friendly students have chosen me as the lucky victim for an interview.

Maimoon Palace in Medan. The palace was built in 26 August 1888 by the Sultan Mahmoed perkasa Alamsya. The beautifull and wide garden. The sultan was one of the richest sultan of the era.
