Málaga Cathedral, Málaga Spain 2016.
Málaga’s cathedral was built between 1528-1782 on or near the site of a former mosque. Originally the plan was to allow for two towers but this failed to come into fruition due to lack of funds. As a result, the cathedral is now affectionately referred to as La Manquita, which loosely means “one armed lady”. The inner design of the place has a clear nod toward the Renaissance and baroque era of Art. Entrance to the Cathedral and accompanying Museum costs only 5 euros. The gardens within it are free to explore and contain a number of interesting items. It is one of our favourite attractions in the whole of Malaga and we advise you go and take a look!

MÁLAGA WALK | Málaga Cathedral - Facade and Church Courtyard | Spain
A first-person perspective Málaga walk tour around the perimeter of Málaga Cathedral as well as the Church courtyard (Capitular Church El Sagrario).
Experience all of the sights and sounds as Watched Walker (yes, I’m talking about myself in the third person) takes us on a walking tour through the streets of Málaga, featuring the Cathedral of Málaga. The tour begins on Calle Molina Lario, then travels to the Cathedral, walking anti-clockwise around the perimeter of, next into the courtyard of the Church (Capitular Church El Sagrario) which is adjacent to the Cathedral, before ending the tour outside the Cathedral on Calle Santa María.
Sights seen along the tour include the exterior of Málaga Cathedral, Plaza del Obispo with fountain, entrance to Diocesan Catechetical library, cathedral garden with water feature, and the church courtyard (including church bells and bell carriers, statue of Queen and Baby).
And in each video I've hidden a blinking eye, can you spot it? (It could appear more than once). In addition to the blinking eye, I've also added the Watched Walker logo to various scenes–it could be on buildings, vehicles or any other objects, so keep an eye out for it too!
Footage recorded July 2017.

Málaga Cathedral, Málaga, Andalusia, Spain, Europe
The Cathedral of Málaga is a Roman Catholic church in the city of Málaga in Andalusia in southern Spain. It is in the Renaissance architectural tradition. The cathedral is located within the limits defined by a now missing portion of the medieval Moorish walls, the remains of which surround the nearby Alcazaba and the Castle of Gibralfaro. It was constructed between 1528 and 1782, following the plans drawn by Diego de Siloe; its interior is also in Renaissance style. The cathedral, built on a rectangular plan, is composed of a nave and two aisles, the former being wider, though having the same height as the aisles. The choir stalls are the work of Pedro de Mena. The façade, unlike the rest of the building, is in Baroque style and is divided into two levels; on the lower level are three arches, inside of which are portals separated by marble columns. Above the doors are medallions carved in stone; those of the lateral doors represent the patron saints of Málaga, Saint Cyriacus and Saint Paula, while that over the centre represents the Annunciation. The north tower is 84 metres (276 ft) high, making this building the second-highest cathedral in Andalusia, after the Giralda of Seville. The south tower remains unfinished. A plaque at the base of the tower states that funds raised by the parish to finish it were used instead to help those British colonies which became the United States to gain their independence from Great Britain. Examinations of the parish registers indicate, however, that the money may have been used instead to renovate the roadway called the Way of Antequera. This unfinished state has led to the cathedral being called La Manquita, meaning in English, The One-Armed Lady. A series of grand artworks fills the sanctuary, among them are the Gothic altarpiece of the Chapel of Santa Barbara and the 16th century tombs of the Chapel of San Francisco. The Chapel of the Incarnation contains a neoclassic altarpiece (1785) designed by the sculptor Juan de Villanueva and carved by Antonio Ramos and Aldehuela, a group of figures representing the Annunciation and sculptures of the patron saints of Malaga, Saint Ciriaco and Saint Paula, carved by Juan Salazar Palomino also in the 18th century, and The Beheading of Saint Paul, painted by Enrique Simonet in 1887 during his stay in Rome.

One of the best Andalusian Renaissance temples.
The Catholic Monarchs ordered the construction of the building. It is popularly known as La Manquita.
The cathedral of the Encarnación is one of the town's most important monuments. The south tower and the main façade are unfinished. It is situated in the historic centre of the town. The building sits where a mosque-Moorish quarter once existed. Work began in the first half of the 16th century, in the Gothic style, ordered by the Catholic Monarchs, and continued in the 17th and 18th centuries. It has its own gardens and a magnificent courtyard. The interior of the cathedral has Renaissance and Baroque influences. Most noteworthy are the choir stalls (17th century) in the central nave and, especially, the sculptural works of Pedro de Mena. The chapels are also very interesting, such as that of the Encarnación, which gives the cathedral its name.
