THE MALTA POSTAL MUSEUM
The Malta Postal Museum - one of Malta’s newest heritage attractions. Within our walls we explore centuries of postal history starting early in the 16th century and moving on towards the present day. Located in a restored town house right in the centre of Valletta, the museum brings to life the important role played by the Post over the years.
From wafer seals and stamps to uniforms and bicycles, the Museum’s collection marks historical milestones. It also tells the stories of the many individuals who played a part in the development of the Islands’ communication. Documents and artefacts, stories and experiences have been painstakingly collected and carefully displayed to offer the visitor an insight into the rich and fascinating history of the Post.

Video taken during our very brief visit to the beautiful island nation of Malta. Definitely worth a visit! I regret not a) staying longer and b) filming more stuff.
The first day we explored Sliema and St. Julian, passing by Balluta Bay, which features a beautiful church called Our Lady of Mount Carmel.
Fort St. Elmo, in Valletta, which you see in the last part of this video, has an excellent war history museum that is well worth spending a few hours in.

Malta - the open air museum of the Mediterranean
There is so much more to Malta than you realise. It's easy to keep away from the touristy areas. The capital Valletta is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Explore it's narrow alleys and enjoy the tasty food. Locals are friendly and don't worry you don't have to try learning the unusual Maltese language as English is also a national language. History is everywhere and it will feel strangely familiar to the British with its UK post boxes.
Mdina, recently famed as a filming location for Game of Thrones is beautiful and soaked in history.
Malta National War Museum St Elmo Fort Valletta with Flora the Explorer
Hello Explorers!
In this vieo I show you an overview of the National War Museum in Valletta. I must say that I was unexpectedly surprised the War Museum!
Nick chose to visit the War Museum and I though that it would have been a very boy choice...
In reality it was a super experience! First of all because the War Museum is located in Fort St Elmo in Valletta. Visiting the fort in itself is an experience! It dominates the tip of the Sciberras peninsula. It was built by the Knights of Malta when they arrived on the island in 1530.
The aim was to defence the Grand Harbour and Marsaxmett from the Ottomans. Consider that it was built in only 6 months in a star-shaped form.
The various exhibitions inside the fort accompany the visitor through the history of Malta, from the Bronze Age, the Phoenician and then to the important role that the fort had played during the more modern history, starting from the Knights and the Ottoman invasion.
This is an engaging museum! I was fascinated by the many historical video guides that show also on maps and big screens the vicissitudes of the Great Siege during the 1565.
Then you can walk along the exhibitions dedicated to the post Siege, the French arrival to the British Empire in Malta.
The final part is dedicated to the First and Second World War and it is always touching to see personal objects that someone wore during those terrible not so far time, they make you think about the deep inconsistency of any war.
There are three historical important icons that you can see in the museum and for sure you will have heard about them when you are in Malta. The most well-known is the George Cross, a special award for gallantry gave by the King George to the Maltese, the only one that the King assigned.
The second is the Gloster Sea Gladiator N5520 Faith and the third is the Roosevelt's Jeep 'Husky'.
I highly recommend a visit to the war museum. It is really easy to find. It is located at the end of Merchand Street. 10 euros is the entrance fee and it's definitely worthy if you want to experience more about the strategic role the Malta had along the history, our European history!

Scenes from Valletta, Malta
As Malta’s capital city, it’s no surprise that there are many things to do in Valletta. The city was founded by the Knights of Malta in 1566, who left behind lots of points of interest. There’s everything from formidable fortifications and lush gardens to pretty palaces and family-owned shops.
In this episode, I capture some of Valletta’s grander attractions, as well as the smaller details that make this Mediterranean city so appealing.

Through the City Gate of Valletta,
past the formidable walls
built by the Knights of St. John,
you will find dramatic architecture
and lively festivals
characterized by color
and lots of music.
Valletta was established in 1566 and designed in a grid pattern,
but it has enough flourishes
to keep things interesting.
As Malta’s capital city,
Valletta plays host to the country’s prime minister.
It also hosts international summits
and the Maltese Parliament,
which was designed by Renzo Piano.
Much of Valletta, to include the opera house,
was destroyed during World War Two.
But, Valletta has seen a rebirth in recent years,
injecting lots of life into the city.
There are many details to look for in Valletta,
including ornamental door-knockers
and the Maltese cross, a symbol of the Knights of St. John.
You will also spot statues tucked into niches
and olive trees dancing in the breeze.
Valletta’s location on a rugged peninsula
means that it has dramatic views of the Mediterranean
and of Malta’s coastal fortifications.
The Upper Barrakka Gardens
are one of the best places to soak up these views.
While you’re there, have a coffee break and maybe a cat nap.
Afterwards, stroll past colorful buildings,
up the city’s hilly streets,
until you reach a statue of Valletta’s namesake.
You might notice that almost everywhere you walk,
you’ll see enclosed, wooden balconies called “gallariji.”
Some are painted in vibrant hues,
while others have laundry drying in the Mediterranean breeze.
On Republic Street, you’ll find the Grandmaster’s Palace.
It was built in the 1560s. Throughout the centuries,
it has housed the knights’ grandmasters, British colonial governors, and Parliament.
Today, it’s the office of the President of Malta.
Near the Grandmaster’s Palace is the National Library.
It was the last official building constructed by the knights
and it’s a great place to delve deeper into Maltese history.
Even though Valletta is a capital city,
life here moves at a slower pace.
Locals take time for long chats,
and stroll the sun-drenched lanes,
sometimes, with a feisty Chihuahua in tow.
Horse-drawn carriages carrying tourists are a common sight,
while fishing and seaside barbecues are also popular.
Valletta has just under 6,000 residents
and still has family-owned shops.
They sell everything from fresh produce
and hand-made filigree jewelry
to sweet treats.
Many shopkeepers speak both Maltese and English, which are the country’s official languages.
Fort St. Elmo was the scene of intense fighting during the Great Siege of 1565.
Today, it houses the National War Museum.
Nearby, are the Lower Barrakka Gardens,
where you’ll find fragrant Oleander flowers,
a few palm trees,
and stunning views of Fort St. Angelo and the Three Cities.
This is a superb spot to watch the clouds roll by,
to read a good book,
or perhaps enjoy a picnic
while taking in
incredible scenes of Valletta.

Great Wall of Malta and Madalena Fort, MALTA
If you haven't walked the Victoria Lines then you have not seen Malta
Disappointed not to get into Fort Madalena, But stumbled across the entrance to the Victoria Lines, almost did not make it across the wall, originally known as the North West Front and sometimes unofficially known as the Great Wall of Malta, are a line of fortifications that spans 12 kilometres along the width of Malta, dividing the north of the island from the more heavily populated south.

TravelValue: Malta - WOW ... EXTREMELY RARE Valletta (Malta) 8-Cannon Salute
Watch this extremely rare Eight Canon Salute in ancient Valletta, Malta for visiting dignitaries ... Only on CombatCritic's TravelValue Channel.
Normally, they fire one gun at 12PM and 4PM daily, and six for visiting cruise ships upon request, but eight cannon salutes are extremely rare and reserved for only the most important dignitaries (e.g. Queen Elizabeth).
We had just missed the standard 4PM one cannon salute, but I noticed that they were reloading and fusing ALL EIGHT cannons. Knowing a little about gunpowder and fuses and how they react to humidity, I knew they were not loading them for the next day. THe soldiers remained on guard of the loaded cannons, so I asked if there would be a volley. The soldier told me that there would be another in about fifteen minutes.
About fifteen minutes later, a group of visiting dignitaries arrived, took a group photo in front of the eight cannons, and the firing commenced. This rare event was captured on video for you to watch here ... Enjoy!
