Manganese Falls - Copper Harbor, MI.
In the middle of the little town of Copper Harbor, there is a turn off to Manganese Lake. Before you get to the lake, there is a little turnout to pull over and stop. Once you get out of your vehicle, you will immediately hear the familiar sounds of rushing water. A narrow little trail will lead you along side Manganese Creek which falls sideways over a crest down a moist fern garden to a small valley below. This is a small waterfall but very beautiful none the less with ferns and mosses covering the surrounding rocks.

The Road to Copper Harbor, Michigan
At the very top of the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, there is a land mass sticking out nearly 100 miles into the middle of Lake Superior. At the tip of this appendix like formation is Fort Wilkins State Park and the quaint little town of Copper Harbor. Our trip that day started in Iron Mountain, 146 miles away and took us through Wakefield where the large Indian statue stood by Lake Wakefield. Along the route, we visited O Kun De Kun Falls on Hwy 45 just north of Bruce Crossing (see separate video) and then made it up to Houghton for lunch and then by late afternoon we found ourselves a nice campground at Fort Wilkins State Park in time to get settled and shoot more video at Manganese Falls (see separate video) and capture the sunset. What a great day !
Driving on Snowy US 41 to Copper Harbor Michigan
Driving on US 41 North to Copper Harbor Michigan Upper Peninsula Lake Superior March 4, 2014, the winter of 330 inches of snow! And Lake Superior 100% ice covered.
It really is that bumpy. This is the end of the line for US highway 41, 2000 miles (3219 km) from Miami Florida to Copper Harbor, Michigan. (Actually it goes a little further to a cul-de-sac turnaround circle)
Note the high snow banks higher than a automobile, and huge blobs of snow in the trees the size of a refrigerator.
Tried this with a hand held camera, sorry for the bumps, you can see there are some pretty good bumps on the road.

Copper Harbor Michigan
Copper Harbor is a beautiful place to relax and unwind. We enjoyed a slower pace of life while visiting, but found plenty of interesting things to investigate. Make sure to visit the Jampot. It's a bakery run by monks from the Order of St. John and is a great place to pick up some bilberry jam.
