Twaalfuurkop, Marloth Nature Reserve, Swellendam – December 2016
On 23 Desember 2016 my sister and I went up Twaalfuurkop in the Marloth Nature Reserve near Swellendam. It is a 12km hike that took us about 5 hours to complete. We started walking at 05:00 and were rewarded with a beautiful sunrise.
All footage captured with my Samsung Note 4. I think it's quite amazing what these modern cellphones are able to capture.

Swellendam and Bontebok National Park, South Africa
About two hours east of Cape Town is a lovely little Dutch settlement called Swellendam. It is easily accessible through public transportation and is surrounded by the Langeberg Mountains (Marloth Nature Reserve), which has numerous trails for day hikes and overnight treks. You can spend the day at nearby Bontebok National Park, a nature reserve with hiking trails and animals that include antelope and zebra. Also a short distance away are numerous wineries along the Robertson Wine Route and many opportunities for horseback riding. Overall, Swellendam is a quaint town with a relaxing atmosphere including many family-run Dutch inspired restaurants in its humble downtown area. It may be the perfect stop for a couple days of of R&R on a more rigorous tour along the Garden Route.

Exploring the Fonteintjiesbos Trail in Grootvadersbosch Nature Reserve
Do you love hiking? Then add Grootvadersbosch to your travel itinerary in 2017.
The #TrekSouthAfrica team had the pleasure of staying at Cape Nature’s Grootvadersbosch Nature Reserve, located in the Langeberg, about 22 kilometres northwest of Heidelberg.
Grootvadersbosch’s hiking trails are ideal for families looking to get closer to nature. Varying from the easier 10 kilometre Bush Buck trail to the more challenging Grysboksirkel Trail which stretches for 15km, there’s something for everyone.

A LUXURY TENTED CAMP IN ELGIN, SOUTH AFRICA | Accidental Ambrosia
We recently visited Elgin Hills Luxury Tented Camp in Elgin, Western Cape, South Africa.
It's about an hour and a half to two hours drive from Cape Town, tucked away in a forested part of the Elgin Valley.
The tented camp is surrounded by apple orchards and is practically on the banks of the Palmiet River. The owners provide two canoes in case you feel inclined to go paddling up/down the river.

We take our camping up a notch by heading back to one of our favourite close-to-home destinations, Mountain Sanctuary Park.
Check out our review, compiled from a few recent visits. There's kloofing, there's hiking, there's a visit to the grotto, there's the epic swimming pool, there's stormy weather, and there's monkey trouble!
