► WHO AM I?
Short answer: I am a Brazilian journalist living in the United States. After traveling the world working with sports, news, and events for over 15 years, I realized that what I really love is the travel part of it all. So I exchanged the life in the newsrooms and stadiums for the daily challenge of being an independent content producer. I created this channel to share the beauties of the world... stuff that for so long I only kept to myself. Also to help people planning similar trips and to inspire more people to venture out and enjoy life!
Detailed answer: ????
P.S.: The guy who occasionally appears in the vlogs is my husband, Gordon. He is Canadian-American and is extremely camera shy, that's why he's behind the camera most of the time ;-)

Literally Independence Square, it was formerly known as the Selangor Club Padang or simply the Padang and was originally the cricket green of the Selangor Club (now Royal Selangor Club).
The Sultan Abdul Samad Building, which grandly overlooks the Merdeka Square, is one of the most significant landmarks built by the British. Designed by A. C. Norman who was inspired by Indian Moghul architecture, this building was completed in 1897 and housed the Selangor State Secretariat and later the Supreme Court before being abandoned for a number of years. It now houses the Ministry of Heritage, Culture and Arts.[1]
The field at the Merdeka Square's immediate vicinity was officially renamed 'Dataran Merdeka' on 1 January 1990 in conjunction of Visit Malaysia Year 1990.
Merdeka Square was the starting line of The Amazing Race Asia 1.
On August 31, 2007, Prime Minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi shouted 'Merdeka!' on midnight celebrations, where thousands of Malaysians celebrated 50 years of nationhood.
Surrounding the square are many buildings of historical interest. Just beside the square is the Sultan Abdul Samad Building currently the office of the Ministry of Information, Communication and Culture of Malaysia. Opposite the square is the famous Royal Selangor Club Complex built in 1884 as a meeting place for high-ranking members of the British colonial society.[3] To the South is the former National History Museum which used to house a vast collection of historical items. The collection has recently been moved to Muzium Negara. To the North is the St. Mary's Anglican Cathedral, currently the Diocese of West Malaysia and the see of the Bishop of West Malaysia.
A 95-meter flagpole, one of the tallest in the world, marks that spot with a flat, round black marble plaque. It is located at the southern end of the square.[4] Nearby is also the original Kuala Lumpur Railway Station, which is still operational. However the main hub has recently been moved to KL Sentral in 2001.
The Sultan Abdul Samad Building (Malay: Bangunan Sultan Abdul Samad; Jawi: باڠونن سلطان عبدالصمد) is located in front of the Dataran Merdeka (Independence Square) and the Royal Selangor Club, by Jalan Raja in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The structure takes its name from Sultan Abdul Samad, the reigning sultan of Selangor at the time when construction began:

Dataran Merdeka is one of the most important historical landmarks in the history of Malaysia. Dataran means square and Merdeka means independence. The name is self explanatory in that this is the place that marked the independence of Malaysia from colonial rule on 31 August 1957. It is here that the Union Jack was lowered and replaced with the flag of Malaysia.

The Square is well maintained with beautiful gardens, terraces, fountains and a big screen for screening of main events and live telecasts. Photography session for first timer to this place is a must whether one is a local or a foreign tourist.
This Square continues to be a venue where many events are held. The National Day celebrations and New Year countdown are among the events that are held here.

Overview
The flagpole which holds the flag of Malaysia is the highest in the world, towering at a height of 100 meters. Merdeka Square is a historical site where Malaya declared its independence. If you are a fan of the Malayan history, you can come here and take some pictures. The field in front of Merdeka Square was officially named as Dataran Merdeka on 1st January in conjunction with the Visit Malaysia Year 1990. There are many attractions nearby the Merdeka Square. For shoppers, you can come over to Central Market Kuala Lumpur to buy some local souvenirs and food and at the same time learn about the different cultures of the society that makes up Malaysia.
The Central Market is made up of a few floors which are occupied by many stalls. Another place where locals and tourists should visit is the Petaling Street (Chinatown) as this is the best place to taste local street foods and purchase all sorts of things. The Petaling Street is full of stalls ranging from souvenirs to fruits and even imitation goods of designer brands. If you need to cool off after hours at the Petaling Street, you can head over to Berjaya Times Square. Berjaya Times Square has the largest indoor theme park which is the Cosmo's World Theme Park. There are rides for all ages in the 380,000 sq feet area. If you are already tired from all the walking and shopping, you can put up for the night at the Berjaya Hotel which is located above the shopping center of Berjaya Times Square.
You can also opt for other hotels in Kuala Lumpur or Hotels in Bukit Bintang which are also very near. In the city center, you do not have to worry about accommodation and food as there are plenty of both of them.
Transport
The most convenient way to get to the Merdeka Square via public transport is by getting on any of the three train lines that runs through the Masjid Jamek station. Walk towards Jamek Mosque from the station and proceed to the corner and towards the Merdeka Square.

Merdeka Sqaure (Independence Square) in the heart of Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Although it was disgustingly hot and humid we still enjoyed ourselves marveling a the impressive architecture and massive flag
The most impressive building to line the square is the Sultan Abdul Samad Building, built at the very end of the 19th Century to house British colonial administrative departments. The architect, one A. C. Norman, had travelled extensively through Africa and India and he fused these styling influences into his project in the heart of Kuala Lumpur. The two-story high building with arch-after-arch has been immaculately restored and today it is still in use, home to some judicial functions. At each end there are round towers with winding staircases and that are topped by copper domes, while its - famous - focal point is its 40-metre high, square-cut clock tower which is known locally as Big Ben.
While visiting Kuala Lumpur make sure to stop by Merdeka Square. It is central and lcoated close to the City Gallery history museum and many iconic colonial buildings. Merdaka Square was also the location of Malaysian independence in 1957 with hoisting the flag.
