Moonrise Jan 11th 2020, Tauranga, New Zealand - Nikon P1000
Moonrise Saturday 11th January 2020. Filmed from Minden Lookout, Te Puna, Tauranga, New Zealand. Filmed with Nikon P1000. 4x speed.
This red Moon is not a Blood Moon or the result of a lunar eclipse, it is simply due to the fact that the Moon is low in the sky and is affected by Rayleigh Scattering, caused by refraction of the light as it passes through the atmosphere. This is the same thing that causes the Sun to look orange / red when it is setting or rising. The smoke from the Australian wild fires will certainly make the Moon look more orange/red than normal.

Ship moving out of Tauranga Harbour captured from Moturiki Island, Tauranga, NZ
Moturiki Island, known as Leisure Island in English, is located just off Mount Maunganui beach. It is connected to the beach by a man made land bridge. NIWA maintains a tide meter on Moturiki Island. Moturiki Island offers rock climbing opportunities.
Marineland Ltd built an aquarium in 1966, but this was closed in May 1981. Later in 1981 Marineland was reconstructed into Leisure Island, a water park with swimming pools, bumper boats and hydro slide, which operated until 1990 when it was removed from the island.
TAURANGA Highlights & Wine Tasting l NEW ZEALAND Cruise Vlog l Ep. 22
It's a new day which means we are in Tauranga, New Zealand. The tour we did today, I booked through Norwegian Cruise Line though most cruise lines offer this tour. It is called, TAURANGA HIGHLIGHTS & WINE TASTING and here is the description from NCL's website:
“Discover the historic sites of scenic Tauranga during this orientation tour of the city and enjoy a taste of New Zealand award winning wines at a local winery.
Your drive takes you across Tauranga Harbour to Tauranga, the principal city of the Bay of Plenty. Tauranga's founders, a group of 19th-century missionaries, left a legacy of well-planned parks and gardens for the benefit of future residents and visitors. You will pass by the Monmouth Redoubt en route to the Elms Mission House, built in 1847 by Archdeacon Brown. Upon arrival, you will take a guided walking tour through this historic Georgian-styled home and surrounding gardens.
Enjoy a scenic drive through Tauranga and past Gate Pa, where the last major battle between the British and Maori people took place in 1864. From the Minden Lookout, you will take in panoramic views and photo opportunities over the Bay of Plenty.
Visit the charming Mills Reef Winery, where you will be invited to sample some award-winning wines.”
As always, make sure to watch in HD for the best video quality! Hope you enjoy! :)

Mount Maunganui Beach, Tauranga, New Zealand- Video3
Mount Maunganui Māori pronunciation: [ˈmaʉŋaˌnʉi], locally /ˈmɒŋəˌnuːi/ is a major residential, commercial and industrial suburb of Tauranga, located on a peninsula to the north-east of Tauranga's city centre. It was an independent town from Tauranga until the completion of the Tauranga Harbour Bridge in 1988, which connects Mount Maunganui to Tauranga's central business district.
Mount Maunganui is also the name of the large lava dome which was formed by the upwelling of rhyolite lava about two to three million years ago. It is officially known by its Māori name Mauao, but is colloquially known in New Zealand simply as The Mount.

Ngati Ranginui Maori Marae, New Zealand
Tour from the ship:
Description:
There's a scenic 30-minute drive from the port at Mount Maunganui to visit a local Ngati Ranginui Maori Marae, where you will spend two glorious hours soaking up New Zealand's rich heritage.
You will be accompanied on this easy four-hour trip by your local guide as you tour this fascinating Marae, which is the local name for a religious or cultural center. The Marae's carved meeting house, Tamatekapua, is named after the captain of the famous Te Arawa canoe, which came to New Zealand from Polynesia in 1350.
As you enter the gates of the Marae, you will be warmly greeted by the tangata whenua (local people) who will take you on a unique cultural journey through Maori heritage and early New Zealand life. The tour also includes morning or afternoon tea, the chance to view wonderful Maori arts and crafts, and a colorful Maori folklore performance. You will also have plenty of time to visit the gift shop and browse for souvenirs.
After a memorable couple of hours, you will board the bus for the journey back to Tauranga, via the Minden Lookout for stunning views of the Bay of Plenty. This scenic route continues along the magnificent Matapihi and Maungatapu peninsulas, where you will pass the Maori War Canoe, Te Awanui, and the downtown waterfront, before returning to your ship.
