Misfat Al Abriyeen. Al Hamra, Oman, January 2014
Misfat Al Abriyeen village is located in Wilayt AlHamra in A'Dakhiliyah Governorate. It is characterised by its alleys, traditional buildings, high mud buildings, and agricultural terraces that wrap around the mountain, along with the old buildings. Misfat Al Abriyeen rises a thousand metres above sea level. The homes of its inhabitants are at the top of the mountain and their farms are on the slope. Its decorated houses standing side by side in close proximity look like terraces waving up and down with the mountain’s terrain and give the visitor a distinctive visual pleasure. It is said that the first house in Misfat Al Abriyeen village was built two hundred years ago.
If you see Misfat Al Abriyeen village from a distance, you will imagine that the mountain grows houses and forts among its trees and flowers. People here have excavated rocks to build cities and gardens, flattened the terrain into terraces to have fertile soil for their farms, and dragged water into the mountain and made it flow through spiral channels so as to irrigate the land and provide drinking water for the villagers.

Misfah:
Misfat Al Abriyeen has become attractive destination for tourists touring Oman due to the agricultural terraces, beautiful wadi, hiking options and old houses.
As Oman Tourism describes it: The homes of its inhabitants are at the top of the mountain and their farms are on the slope.
The village rises around 1000 meters above sea level and is named after the original inhabitants, the Al Abri family.
In the mountains above Nizwa, Misfah is an old village and its uniqueness is best appreciated from a distance, because its only from the opposite side of the valley where you can see just how precariously the village is balanced on the edge of a sheer slope. A riot of palm trees burst up the canyon side, and sprouting from them, hanging over the valley side is a still-inhabited village of narrow houses piled one on top of the other. After taking your photos and drawing your breath, you can drive round to the village and take a walk between the mud brick buildings, catching glimpses of brightly dressed children running down narrow streets whilst their parents glide by like ghosts in the pale dishdashas (traditional ankle-length garment for men) and abayas (black over-garment for women) every adult wears.

S01E03 - Visiting Misfat Al Abriyeen & Our first workday at boat
Today we've been invited by Mr. Naif Al Abri, the owner of the Misfat Old House, which is located in a beautiful village named Misfat Al Abriyeen (مسفاة العبريين). It is a unique mountainous village located 1,000 m above sea level on the mountain foothills surrounding wilayat Al Hamra in Al Dhakhiyla Governorate. The village derives its name from the Al Abri tribe, who originally come from Misfat Al Abriyeen and Al Hamra.
And, in the second part, you'll see how we are preparing our boat for the Journey. It was our first workday at the boat. We enjoyed a lot to work together for our dream and we believe that everyone can chase their dream, if there is lot of love and dedication!
Enjoy!
Special thanks to Mr. Naif Al Abri

Breath taking views of mountainous gateway. This is a great place to relax and walk under the shadow of 'date trees' and narrow paths of a traditional village.

Go Asia - Misfat Al Abriyeen, l'antico villaggio montanaro dell'Oman
