Travel Videos HD, World Travel Guide
Al Hamra is a 400 years old oasis 670 m above sea level in the western Hajar mountains. In the near surroundings many sights can be found like e.g. the big Al Hoota show cave, the mighty UNESCO heritage fort of Bahla, the beautiful castle of Jabrin, the picturesque mountain village of Misfat Al Abriyeen and the highest elevation of the country the Jabal Shams (sun mountain) at 3009 m above sea level.
All this far away from large traffic streams without any through traffic and like this an ideal place to find peace and relaxation.
A network of small paved roads links the villages and places, which with their palm plantations and green fields form the contrast to the barren mountains being so typical for the whole country.
Additionally there are unpaved roads reaching from the valley up to 2300 m elevation and being partly adventurous and partly steep.
There is a shopping street in Al Hamra with several small supermarkets, simple restaurants, a pharmacy and banks with ATM.
Also in Al Hamra many guest-workers from India, Bangladesh and Pakistan are living and working in the local shops or on the plantations.
For cost reasons those use bicycles to cover longer distances around the villages and thus make Al Hamra even today already the cycling capital in Oman.
Sometimes there are more bicycles than cars on the road. Those bikes however are cheap merchandise from Asia, which are on offer from 35 OMR in the two local bikes shops.
The open visitor has thus in Al Hamra the chance to get into contact with Omanis and people from the Indian subcontinent alike, e.g. during a restaurant visit. But also some Omanis young and old alike prefer the bicycle to the car, the majority admittedly using the car.
Because many inhabitants of Al Hamra work in Muscat and are weekend commuters, it is even more quiet during the week in the village.

Oman is an Arab country on the southeastern coast of the Arabian Peninsula. Holding a strategically important position at the mouth of the Persian Gulf, the country shares land borders with the United Arab Emirates to the northwest, Saudi Arabia to the west, and Yemen to the southwest, and shares marine borders with Iran and Pakistan. The coast is formed by the Arabian Sea on the southeast and the Gulf of Oman on the northeast.
From the late 17th century, the Omani Sultanate was a powerful empire, vying with Portugal and Britain for influence in the Persian Gulf and Indian Ocean. Historically, Muscat was the principal trading port of the Persian Gulf region. Muscat was also among the most important trading ports of the Indian Ocean. Oman's official religion is Islam.
Oman is an absolute monarchy. The Sultan Qaboos bin Said al Said has been the hereditary leader of the country since 1970. Sultan Qaboos is the longest-serving current ruler in the Middle East, and fourth-longest current reigning monarch in the world.
At Aybut Al Auwal, in the Dhofar Governorate of Oman, a site was discovered in 2011 containing more than 100 surface scatters of stone tools, belonging to a regionally specific African lithic industry –the late Nubian Complex– known previously only from the northeast and Horn of Africa.
Dereaze, located in the city of Ibri, is the oldest known human settlement in the area, dating back as many as 8,000 years to the Late Stone Age. Archaeological remains have been discovered here from the Stone Age and the Bronze Age. Many such tribes settled in Oman, making a living by fishing, herding or stock breeding.
Sumerian tablets refer to a country called Magan or Makan, a name believed to refer to Oman's ancient copper mines. Mazoon, another name used for the region, is derived from the word muzn, which means heavy clouds which carry abundant water. The present-day name of the country, Oman, is believed to originate from the Arab tribes who migrated to its territory from the Uman region of Yemen.
From the 6th century BC to the arrival of Islam in the 7th century AD, Oman was controlled and/or influenced by three Persian dynasties: the Achaemenids, Parthians and Sassanids. The conversion of the Omanis is usually ascribed to Amr ibn al-As, who was sent by the Prophet Muhammad [PBUH] during the Expedition of Zaid ibn Haritha(Hisma).

Ras Al-Khaimah [UAE] | Top Places to visit in Ras Al-Khaimah UAE

Ras Al Khaimah [UAE], has a wealth of Beauty and Culture which can attract people from all over the world to visit there. Here is our list of the Top 15 Beautiful Places in Ras Al-Khaimah, so you can spend your time wisely.

------------------------------------------------
Ras al-Khaimah is one of the seven emirates that make up the United Arab Emirates (UAE). The current statehood is the result of the 1909 appanage from Sharjah. Its name could be taken to mean headland of the small huts, which can be attributed to the indigenous buildings that existed along the coast. The emirate is in the northern part of the UAE, bordering Oman's exclave of Musandam. It covers an area of 1,684 square km. The capital city and home of most residents is also called Ras Al Khaimah. The emirate had a population of 210,063 at the 2005 Census, of which 41.82 percent or 87,848 were Emirati citizens. Latest estimates put the total population at between 250,000 and 300,000. Locals accounted for 97,529 in the population estimate for 2010.
The city has two main sections, Old Ras Al Khaimah and Nakheel, on either side of a creek. It is served by the Ras Al Khaimah International Airport. It consists of a northern part (where the city of Ras al-Khaimah is situated), and a large inland exclave in the south (near Hatta), and a few small islands in the Persian Gulf. Ras al-Khaimah has the most fertile soil in the country, due to a larger share in rainfall and underground water streams from Omani mountains.
Ras al-Khaimah has been the site of human habitation for several millennia and there are many historical and archaeological sites throughout the emirate - local sources cite 1,000 - dating from different time periods, including remnants of the Umm an-Nar Culture (3rd millennium BC). Ancient graves were found in the Emirate in October 2012.
The city was historically known as Julfar.
According to Sheikh Sultan bin Muhammad Al-Qasimi, current ruler of Sharjah Emirate, the city of Ras al-Khaimah (which before was the capital of the state that is now Sharjah) was historically known as Julfar and was founded by Armenians who escaped Persia during the Mongol invasion.
In the early 18th century, the Al Qasimi dynasty established itself in Ras Al Khaimah and Sharjah on the Arabian Peninsula, growing to become a significant maritime force with holdings on both the Persian and Arabian coasts. In 1819, a British naval force was sent from Bombay in order to suppress alleged piracy - actions of the Al Qasimi fleet against British flagged shipping that affected trade routes in the Strait of Hormuz, along the Persian Gulf coast, and the Indian Ocean.
In the Battle of Ras Al Khaimah of 1809, the Al Qasimi fleet was largely destroyed. The British operation continued to Linga on the Persian coast which was, like the Greater and Lesser Tunbs islands, administered by the Al Qasimi. The attack on Ras Al Khaimah resulted in the destruction of the tower of the 16th century Dhayah Fort whose remains can be seen at Rams in northern Ras Al Khaimah. In January 1820, the British imposed the General Maritime Treaty of 1820 signed by Sheikh Sultan Bin Saqr Al Qasimi who was reinstated by the British in Ras Al Khaimah after the deposition of Hasan Bin Rahma. The treaty stipulated the end of piracy and slavery, and laid the foundation for the British protectorateover the Trucial States that lasted until 1971. In 1869, Ras Al Khaimah became fully independent from neighbouring Sharjah. However, from September 1900 to 7 July 1921, it was re-incorporated into Sharjah; the last governor became its next independent ruler.
On 10 February 1972, Ras al-Khaimah, under the leadership of Sheikh Saqr bin Mohammad al-Qasimi, joined the United Arab Emirates.

Oman/الحمراء) Al Hamra Village Part 32
Welcome to my travelchannel.
On my channel you can find more than 1000 films of almost 80 countries. See the playlist on my youtube channel.Enjoy!
Al Hamra (Arabic: الحمراء) is a 400-year-old town in the region Ad Dakhiliyah, in northeastern Oman. As a province (wilayat), it is home to a number of villages including the mountainside village of Misfat Al Abryeen, with the village of Ghul to the northwest of the town, and Bimah to the north-northeast. The town and province lie on the southern slopes of the Akhdar Mountains.
Al Hamra is also known as Hamra Al Abryeen with reference to the Al Abri tribe who live there. Near the center of the town is a plaza and the souq. Some of the oldest preserved houses in Oman can be found in Al Hamra, a town built on a tilted rock slab. Many of the houses have two, three and even four stories, with ceilings made of palm beams and fronds topped by mud and straw. Visitors to the nearby souq can watch a halwa maker at work in the only halwa shop still operating in the old souq.
Mount Shams (the sun mountain), the highest mountain in Oman, sits northeast of the town of Al Hamra. The Al Hoota Cave is located at the foot of Mount Shams. It is one of the largest cave systems in the world.
This venerable village at the foot of the Hajar Mountains is one of the oldest in Oman, and is interesting for its wonderfully well-preserved row of two- and three-storey mudbrick houses built in the Yemeni style. There are many abandoned houses in the upper parts of the village which make for an atmospheric stroll.
