Captain Manwell with Mismaloya Adventures boat at Mismaloya beach Puerto Vallarta Mexico
Jan. 2018. Captain Manwell of Mismaloya Adventures boat, at Mismaloya Beach, Puerto Vallarta Mexico. Very reasonably priced. Manwell was a very good Captain. He took Hubby & I on a snorkeling trip to 3 different places, for 3 hours. We had the whole boat to ourselves. We brought along our own snokeling equipment, (Mask set, life jacket, wet shoes). Manwell put bread pieces into water, which attracted huge amounts of fish. So many to see. Big nemo type fish, needle fish, starfish, huge sea urchin's, i think i saw a baby baracuta (but i am no fish expert), plus many more. We also saw many different kinds of birds. This is the best way to go on a snorkeling trip. You are not rushed, so you get to see more. This boat also had a canopy, and a ladder. Not all boats have this. I would highly recommend Manwell with Mismaloya Adventures.
Snorkeling at Los Arcos - Playa Mismaloya, Mexico
My family had a reunion of sorts in Puerto Vallarta on the west coast of Mexico. One of the activities we did while we were there was take a short bus ride to Playa Mismaloya, a very nice beach nearby. One of the best activities to do there is snorkeling next to Los Arcos, the arching islands only a few minute's boat ride away. We saw so many colorful fish and swam through one of the arches. It was actually my first snorkeling experience and it was a great one.

Puerto Vallarta Beach Day in Mismaloya | Mexico
Hey guys! We took a bus to Mismaloya for some more chill, relaxed beach vibes outside of the city of Puerto Vallarta. My Uncle Gary went to Mismaloya in the 1980's, and back then the beach was completely natural and undeveloped. The hotels, resorts, and touristy restaurants were all new to him. Even though the beach is very developed and touristy with beach chairs right up to the edge of crashing waves and vendors endlessly trying to sell you anything they can, the tropical beach vibes are still there and enjoyable. We topped off the afternoon with a one hour boat tour for $10 a person... a great deal for a stunning experience! Enjoy the video :)

Visiting El Eden at Mismaloya south of Puerto Vallarta, Mexico
El Edén is, without doubt, a spectacular location, full of fun and adventure centered in the waters of the river or above the treetops and valley. Read more:
It is one of the popular natural attractions in Puerto Vallarta, the location is very lush, all green and refreshing. There's a natural pool created by the Mismaloya river, here you can enjoy the cool river water, jumping into it Tarzan-style or sliding down the small waterfalls into the refreshing emerald flowing currents in the pool. Lots of fun, if you dare!
El Eden became famous for being used as the set for many of the shots used for one of Arnold Schwarzenegger's most famous movies, Predator. The movie starts off with the heroes arriving at Boca de Tomatlán beach, the rest of the movie was shot at El Edén, the restaurant that currently is there, the pools and surrounding jungle.
There's not much left of the movie, just an empty shell of a helicopter and a predator sculpture, at times (another kind of predator) a live costumed predator too, that will spare your life if you pay it/him for appearing in your souvenir/selfie photos...
Newer generations will not necessarily remember the movie, some may recognize the Predator from more recent versions, some even including the other lethal ET: Alien, or from video games.
If you remember Predator, don't tell anyone, people will guess you're a dinosaur, as it was shot in 1987 :-).
Another attraction this location offers is the beautiful El Eden Jungle Restaurant and for those that want an adrenaline overdose, there's a great canopy tour with more than 2 miles of zip-lines over the river and through the jungle tree tops.
You can also enjoy learning a bit more about the two local liquors: Tequila and Raicilla, traditions and lots of history are included in these famous and infamous alcoholic beverages.
How to get to El Eden
If you have a 4-wheel drive jeep or a similar vehicle, getting to El Edén is a relatively short trip (10 miles - 16 km), you drive as if you were on your way to Mismaloya, right after the side road that takes you to the entrance of the Barceló Puerto Vallarta Resort, you'll notice a road branching off to the left to El Edén, another to the right (that leads you to Mismaloya Beach and the bridge if you were to drive straight out toward Boca.
Take the left branch, this cobblestone road, that follows the course of the Mismaloya river, takes you into the little town, you'll see signs showing the way to the Zoo, you'll pass the Mamá Lucía Tequila Distillery, continue some 200 yards and the road becomes concrete. You will then arrive to the zoological garden gates (on the left), continue on the right branch. In the next crossroad, take the left branch into the hills and jungle. Continue driving along for 2.5 miles and you'll get to El Eden.

Vallarta Zoo Tour, Mismaloya, Puerto Vallarta, Mexico
Many of us, if not all, have gone to zoos in different parts of the world, maybe you are lucky enough to have one in your city, we all know the DON'T FEED THE ANIMALS signs peppered generously in them. Few of us have gone to a zoo where you can feed the animals, where they actually want you to feed them! Vallarta Zoo AC allows you to do that, of course, from a bag that you receive when you pay your entrance, do not start feeding them doritos or chocolate! In some cases you'll be able to approach and caress many of the animals, although you should only do so along with trained personnel.
A map and details on how to get to the PV Zoo on our page:
Another cool aspect of Puerto Vallarta Zoo is the fact that it's in the middle of the jungle and mountains of Mismaloya Puerto Vallarta, follow the paved but colorful trails, they guide you up the hill and between the areas destined to the different species of animals, birds, reptiles and others. The shade the vegetation provides is welcome, especially in the hot season and after noon.
The Puerto Vallarta Zoological Garden is a must see in Puerto Vallarta and is on a short list of fun things to do on Puerto Vallarta with children.

How to get to El Eden near Mismaloya in Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco, Mexico
El Eden is an unique attraction located in Puerto Vallarta's south zone, upriver from Mismaloya Beach, following along the edge of the river. Located 800 feet above sea level in the lush green jungle of Cuale Sierra. There's lots of fun and adventure, not only in jumping into the very fresh waters, but also over the tree tops and valley with the El Eden Canopy Tour. The main course are a series of natural pools created by the Mismaloya river, the main one offers Tarzan-style cords or you can slide down the small waterfalls and rocks into crystal clear emerald waters.
El Eden is now also known as the set for one of Arnold Schwarzenegger's most iconic movies, Predator. Heroes arrive at Boca de Tomatlán beach in helicopter, the rest of the movie was shot at El Edén, the restaurant that currently is there, the pools and surrounding jungle.
There's not much left of the movie really, just an empty rundown shell of a helicopter and a predator sculpture, and at times there's another kind of predator, a live costumed one, that will spare you your life if you cough up cash for appearing in your souvenir/selfie shots...
Newer generations will not necessarily remember the movie, some may recognize the Predator from more recent versions, some even including the other lethal ET: Alien, or from video games. If you remember Predator, don't tell anyone, people will figure out you're a dinosaur, as it was shot last century, in 1987.
Something else you'll enjoy here is the El Eden Jungle Restaurant and for those that want an adrenaline overdose, there's a great canopy tour (zip line tour) with more than 2 miles of zip-lines over the river and through the jungle tree tops, fittingly called El Eden Canopy Tour.
If you want to know how to get to El Eden, you'll need a 4-wheel drive jeep or a similar car, it is a relatively short trip (10 miles), you first drive to Mismaloya, once you pass the side street that takes you to the hotel there (Barceló) take a left, that road'll take you into the Mismaloya town, this cobblestone road, follows the valley of the Mismaloya river, you'll continue as if going the the Vallarta Zoo, drive past the Mamá Lucía Tequila Distillery, part of the road is concrete. Pass the Zoo on the left and continue on the right branch. At the next crossroad, take the left branch going into the hills and jungle. Continue driving along for approximately two and a half miles and you'll get to El Eden.

Mismaloya is the beach where it all started, a beach that changed the future and destiny of a whole Mexican town, from a small picturesque sleepy fisherman town to a large world renowned tourist destination. Read more history.
Before John Huston's arrival to Puerto Vallarta, prospecting locations for the upcoming movie The Night of the Iguana in 1963 and then Mismaloya Beach, the town and the area was just a typical one by the sea, known by a few adventurous artists and travelers.
Some may wish it had stayed that way, more so Huston, who having unwittingly made the place famous, later on moved further down the coast to Las Caletas to avoid the crowds and the hustle and bustle of the developing city.
