Poros island: top weekend destination.
It's full of pine trees which reach the shores and the sandy beaches The residents of Poros are no different from other Greek islanders in spontaneity, dignity and hospitality. The large homes on the beach have a neoclassical style in contrast to the common duplex houses in Brinia, Milo, Pounta and Kasteli. The first dwellings were built in 1463 and located around the famous Clock.
In the center of the city you can find the Town Hall, the archaeological museum, a public library along with a reception hall for exhibitions and other cultural events.
Many taverns are sparcely located among the picturesque alleyways and the whitewashed houses of Poros which are surrounded by bougainvillea . Visitors can enjoy souvenir shops, cafeterias, taverns and clubs playing Greek and English music all along the pier.
Along the coast going towards the training center, we come across the open air movie theater Diana which has premiers of the best films shown this past winter. Right next to it is the exhibition hall of Poros that constantly has exhibitions.
Poros is comprised of two islands, Sphairia and Kalavria, of which the former is a volcanic rock and the latter planted with pine trees. Poros is easily accessible from Piraeus (Ferries depart from GateE8 in Piraeus) and from Peloponnese (Galatas).
Bus and taxi terminals are located in the center of the beach area. Access to boats that go along the shores of Galata is also available there. Public transportation around the island runs pretty smoothly all day. Buses leave every hour while boats depart every ten minutes. On the beach you can find scooter and bike rentals whereas cars are rented right across the island, in Galata.

Just outside of Poros Town, the Zoodohos Pigis Monastery is tucked into the hillside at in the middle of a pine forest. The monastery was built by the Archbishop of Athens, Ioakovos the Second. He had a disease which was cured after drinking some water from a spring near the site. He declared it a miracle and had the monastery built. The first orphanage and the first Ecclesiastical School were also founded at the monastery after the Greek War of Independence in 1821. The island of Halki (Chalki) is one of the smallest islands in the Southern Aegean, lying west of Rhodes in the Dodecanese Islands. At only 28 sq. km. it is easily possible to take in all of the island’s beauty in one holiday, and it’s 34 km of coastline and numerous hidden caves provide the ideal backdrop for lazy boat trips in its calm coastal waters.
Special thanks to Nissia Holidays for making this awesome weekend to Halki happen! Find out more here:

Russian Bay .Vacation in Poros island Greece
by
Russian Bay 5 km north west of Poros Town
Monastery of Ipsilos Pantocrator the higest point on Corfu
the island of the Monastery. South coast.
A small paradise - the island of the Monastery. South coast.
The Monastery is an islet of the Argosaronic. It is located to the north of the Saronic Gulf, southwest of Aegina, less than 500m. from the cape of Perdika and 1800m from the port of Perdika. It is pine-covered, with organized sandy beach and many other places for swimming. In summer there is a daily connection with the port of Aegina by boat (6 km) and a frequent connection to the tourist resort of Perdika.
The peculiarity of this island is that it is not inhabited, but it is a wildlife sanctuary. On the island there are, for example, deer, wild boar, kri-kri, pagania and shrimps, many of which are friendly and exquisite, approaching visitors. The west side of the island is pine-covered and the beach, which approaches the caique from Perdika, is organized with sun loungers and canteen. The eastern side of the island, the side seen from Aegina, is rocky. The island has an interesting hiking / climbing. The peaks of the island are rocky and have panoramic views of Aegina - Perdika, the Methana peninsula and the island of Agistri.
Ochi Day on Hydra 2019 - Hydra Island Greece
Monday 28th October 2019 must be a record breaker for the most sun and highest temperatures for any Ochi day in the last 20 years.
It seemed as though the entire island came out to celebrate the day when Metaxa said OXI to Mussolini during WWII.
The port cats, with one persistent exception, fled to the side streets, mules were tethered off the port and cafes rearranged their tables and chairs to make way for the parade.
At 11, the racing yachts took off on the 2nd leg of this year's end of season regatta, by which time the church service and wreath laying was well underway.
While the children left the monastery to get into parade order, the 3 island cruise boat came in, leaning heavily to one side. While I got some photos, I gave the selfie stick to Pan who promptly misbehaved pretending to be a CNN reporter. (As you’ll see on the video.)
As usual the youngest children carried the Greek and Hydra flags leading the parade, proud to be included but looking a little overwhelmed.
Flags fluttered, snare drums rattled and those not holding their cameras, wore out their hands clapping for the full duration of this wonderfully good-natured event.
Hydra’s resident band played throughout and marched at the end of the parade bringing it to a close.
Thank you to all of Hydra for a marvellous morning.

Poros, Greece - Poseidon Temple - AtlasVisual
Poros Video Map:
Very little remains of the Temple of Posiedon, located in the north of Poros. What was once a big Doric temple is largely in ruins today. An earthquake in 395 AD destroyed much of the temple. The temple dates to the 6th Century BC and functioned as a government center for some of the formation of a league for North Peloponnese states. Famous orator, Demosthenes, committed suicide here to escape in 322 BC, to escape capture by the King of Macedonia.
