大炮台 / Fortaleza do Monte Macau
Here I take a look around Macau's Mount Fortress, officially known as Fortaleza de Nossa Senhora do Monte de São Paulo, or Fortress of Our Lady of the Mount of St. Paul. This was the historical military centre of the former Portuguese colony of Macau.
The fort was originally built between 1617-1626 to protect the properties of the Jesuits in Macau. Later it served as the residence of the first Portuguese Governor, D. Francisco de Mascarenhas.
Interestingly, there are no defensive battlements facing the Chinese mainland, indicating theat the fortress was built only for defence against attacks from the sea.
The fortress was a restricted military outpost until 1965 .
In 1990 the Museum of Macau was established here.
The 52 metre high mount has commanding views across the peninsular and the ramparts are open to all.....
Fortaleza do Monte - Macau
Macau, 26th November 2016. Its quite a steep climb up to the Big Fort, (officially: Fortaleza de Nossa Senhora do Monte de São Paulo) but what a view from the top. It also houses the Macau Musuem, (Museu de Macau).
The fort was built between 1617 and 1626 on the 52 metre-tall Mount Hill, located directly east of the Ruins of St. Paul's.It was constructed to protect the properties of the Jesuits in Macau, primarily from pirates.Later it was seized by the governor for the defence of Macau - Wikipaedia

HD Macau Fortaleza do Monte & View of the City at Night Fortress of Our Lady of the Mount 大炮台
Here is a video of Fortaleza do Monte (Portuguese for Mount Fortress, also Monte Forte, officially Fortaleza de Nossa Senhora do Monte de São Paulo, in English: Fortress of Our Lady of the Mount of St. Paul; Chinese: 大炮台) in Macau. This fort offers great views of the entire city of Macau. At the end of the video 5:10 you will see a lighthouse on another hill in Macau.
Built by the Jesuits, from 1617 to 1626, this was the Portuguese colony of Macau's (in the People's Republic of China) principal military defense structure and was crucial in successfully holding off the attempted Dutch invasion of Macau in 1622.
It was built on top of Mount Hill, strategically located in the centre of the Macau Peninsula, watching over the city in all directions.
The fortress is in the shape of an irregular trapezoid that covers an area of approximately 8000 square metres. In the past, it was equipped with cannons, military barracks, wells and an arsenal that held sufficient ammunition and supplies to endure a siege lasting two years.
The walls are 3.7 metres wide at the base, 9 metres high narrowing upwards to 2.7 metres wide at the top. The parapets were crenulated for the installation of 32 cannons and the two corners of the southeast wall have watchtowers. There are no weapons facing mainland China, indicating that the fortress was only built for defence against attacks from the sea. In 1965 a weather observatory was installed at the site and the fortress was demilitarized in 1976. In 1998 the Museum of Macau was installed at the site.
The tree covered park at the top of the fort has a panaromic view of the mainland area of Macau. It is now part of the Historic Centre of Macau, a UNESCO World Heritage Site
Macao Day Trip, Fortaleza do Monte, 大炮台
Fortaleza do Monte (Portuguese for Mount Fortress, also Monte Forte; officially Fortaleza de Nossa Senhora do Monte de São Paulo, in English: Fortress of Our Lady of the Mount of St. Paul; Chinese: 大炮台; Cantonese Yale: daaih paau yìh) is a fort in Santo António in Macau SAR, China. It is the historical military centre of Macau. The Fortaleza forms part of the Historic Centre of Macau and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
The fort was built between 1617 and 1626 on the 52 metres tall Mount Hill, located directly east of the Ruins of St. Paul's. It was constructed to protect the properties of the Jesuits (mainly Portuguese Jesuits) in Macau, especially from pirates. Later, the Fortaleza was taken over by the Portuguese colonial governor and the relevant authorities for the defence of Macau.
The Fortaleza occupies an area of roughly 8,000 square metres. 32 muzzle-loading cannons were placed around the fort's walls and the two corners of the southeastern fort wall have small watchtowers. The fort proved crucial in successfully holding off the attempted Dutch invasion of Macau in 1622.
The fort remained a restricted military area until 1965 when the barracks in the fort were converted into a weather observatory and was opened to the public. The observatory ceased its function and was relocated to Taipa in 1996 before it was demolished to make way for the Museum of Macau, which was officially opened on 19th April 1998. The tree-covered park at the top of the fort has a panoramic view of the mainland area of Macau.
Apart from being a fortress, it has served various functions:
The first residence of the Governors of Macau (in 1623 and in 1740).
The base for two companies of the Portuguese Prince Regent Battalion to act as a police force from 1810 to 1841.
A weather observatory of the Meteorological Department of Portuguese Macau (from 1966 to 1996).
The Museum of Macau (1998 to present-day).

MUST SEE MACAU @MACAO
@Macau, or as we all also know it as ‘ Vegas of China’, is all about glamour, gamble, inspiring heritage, and a picture-perfect skyline. From casinos to Disneyland, there is a variety of nice places to visit in Macau. Easily accessible by flight, ferry (from multiple locations, the most common of which is from Hong Kong)
Ruins of St. Paul’s
Popularly known as Sam Ba Sing Tzik, Ruins of St. Pauls is situated near Mount Fortress and Macau Museum and is one of the most popular places in Macau. It is one of the top Macau tourist spots.
Considered Macau’s most famous landmark, the ruins of this 16th-century colonial catholic church, amazing that it's still standing. the colide of two very different cultures in one place..Hence, this place too too crowded
Opening hours: Monday Sunday: 9 am 6 . Free entry @ruins.of.st.paul
Senado Square
One of the most popular places to see in Macau, Senado Square is always bustling with tourists and locals making it one of the top Macau tourist places. The Square isnt just about shops, restaurants, and offices, this is an important World Heritage Site as announced by UNESCO since it well portrays the magical history of Macau.
Many European buildings, a park, and a fountain elevate the magnetism of the area.
Looks like I'm in Lisbon????
@senado.square
Monte Forte (Fortaleza do Monte)
While you’re there, you could also try climbing to the top of Mount Fortress (another world heritage site which is in itself another activity of its own) located right next to the ruins. It represents a crucial part of Macau’s history and houses many artefacts (read: cannons) from the 1600s!
It's part of the Macau Museum
It is well worth the climb up to the top to see the views from the Fort Walls but once there one has a 360 degree view of the city and into mainland China.

Macau in one day, 8 hours (Macao)
Macau - Macao Special Administrative Region of the People's Republic of China.
A day trip to Macau leaving by ferry from Hong Kong.
As soon as I arrived I took a bus to reach the Historic Centre of Macau where I visited Largo do Senado (Senado Square). After that I had an Egg tart (Pastel de nata) as a quick snack before visiting the Ruins of St. Paul's Cathedral and the Fortaleza do Monte (Monte Fort).
Eventually I went to visit the biggest Casino in Macau: The Venetian Macao Resort Hotel and Casino.
Obviously it's inspired by the italian city of Venice, it's also the largest casino in the world and the largest single structure hotel building in Asia.
