Monte Generoso - Ticino - Switzerland
MONTE GENEROSO - TICINO - SVIZZERA ...
Patrimoni dell'UNESCO - MONTE SAN GIORGIO

Lake Lugano (Lago di Lugano, Luganersee) is one of the upper Italian lakes. It borders on the canton of Ticino and Lombardy. Its name derives from the Swiss city of Lugano. Its water level lies at 271 m above sea level and its deepest point is at 288 m. Its extremely tipped form (therefore also called Ceresio = the horned) can be explained with its development after the ice age in an area where two glaciers met.
Some tips of the lake reach into Italy. Additionally, the Italian enclave of Campione d'Italia, known for its casino, is situated along its shore, which leads to a complicated borderline (Campione is therefore not part of the EU). South of Lugano, the highway (Autobahn) and train tracks cross the lake on the dam of Melide.
Popular panorama mountains at its shore are the Monte Brè (925 m above sea level), the Monte San Salvatore (912 m above sea level), and the Monte Generoso (1,701 m above sea level). Between its two southern branches lies the UNESCO World Heritage Site Monte San Giorgio (1,097 m above sea level).
Monte San Giorgio
Funicolare Lugano - Monte San Salvatore
Full descent ride / Talfahrt in voller Länge ab: 10:15
EN:
The Funicolare Monte San Salvatore is a funicular cable car located in Lugano in the Swiss canton of Ticino, opened in 1890. It connects the district of Paradiso with the viewpoint on Mount San Salvatore, one of the most famous mountains of Switzerland. The 1629 meter long route is divided into two sections, the upper section being much more inclined than the lower section. For this reason, the two cars also differ in their inclination to the track, so that the passengers have to change into the other car at Pazzallo, located in the middle of the route.
In total, the line rises a height of 601 meters, while the journey takes about 12 minutes. With 26 SFR for a round trip ticket it is really no bargain, however, the fantastic 360° panorama on the summit compensates completely for that. In the north you can see up to the snow peaks of the Alps, to the south the view reaches Po Valley and the Melide causeway. Underneath the Lake Lugano and, of course, the town giving it its name.
It also feels like a model railway watching the frequent trains on the southern part of the Gotthard railway (Bellinzona-Lugano-Chiasso), which can be observed from above for several minutes.
DE:
IT:

'Casa Vecchia'
July & August 2015
“It’s so beautiful here in summer” – say the older inhabitants of Ticino – “that at night, the stars throng together to find a spot where they can admire this paradise”. Summer is a magical season in Ticino: like a dear old friend, it arrives early and leaves late, reluctantly.
Berzona is a village and former municipality in the canton of Ticino, Switzerland.
In 2001 the municipality was merged with the other, neighboring municipalities Auressio and Loco to form a new and larger municipality Isorno.
Berzona is first mentioned in 1265 as Berzona.
The village section of Seghelina is located directly on the main road, while the main village is above the road. During the Middle Ages it was part of the Squadra of Onsernone.
The church of S. Defendente was built in 1564 and became a parish church when it separated from Loco in 1777. The section of Seghelina has the chapels of Santa Maria (1682) and S. Maria Lauretana (1766). The political municipality was created at the same time as the Canton of Ticino in 1803.
After World War II, much of the village population emigrated and sold their properties to outsiders. Many people who bought houses in Berzona were well known personalities from the arts and culture, such as Alfred Andersch, Golo Mann and Max Frisch. Today, the village is shrinking as few jobs in farming and grazing remain and most of the working population have moved to Locarno.

Campione d'Italia (273 m above sea level) is an Italian exclave in the Swiss canton of Ticino which is separated from Italy through Lake Lugano and mountains on Swiss territory. Campione has a surface area of 2.6 km² (of this only 0.9 km² on land), and the length of the land border is roughly 7 km. The addendum «d'Italia» was added to the name in 1933 under the rule of Mussolini to emphasize the affiliation of the territory to Italy.
Campione is heavily integrated into Switzerland in economic terms, uses Swiss Francs as currency, and the cars have Swiss license plates (Ticino). The municipality has a Swiss (6911) and an Italian post code (22060). There are no customs checks between Switzerland and Campione. Campione is considered a tax haven since neither municipal land tax nor VAT are charged.
The first casino was opened in 1917. The new casino, designed by the famous Swiss architect Mario Botta, opened in 2007 and is the largest in Europe.
