A Day in Capri - Walking down from Monte Solaro
Join us on a sunny October day as we jump on the ferry to Capri again. We hire a scooter and drive up to Anacapri, take the chair lift up to Monte Solaro and hike back down to Anacapri, stopping off at a very beautiful and quiet viewpoint.
Then back on the scooter,,down to Capri town and lunch at Ristorante Michelangelo with just enough time afterwards to get back to the ferry!

Capri: Live from the Monte Solaro Chair Lift!
The chair lift up to Monte Solaro from Anacapri is an exciting and exhilarating ride - provided the weather is good! There are great views on the way up (and down) and tremendous panoramas of the Faraglioni Rocks and over to the mainland from the restaurant at the top. Ride with Tony and Helen on the descent from the summit...
Well, it's a bit bumpy, but the view's good, and it's certainly airy enough! It's actually very relaxing, sitting here with your feet dangling. It's quite a change, after wandering about so much over the last few days.
Let's see how Helen's doing. (Zooms into a close-up of Helen, who descends out of frame)
The first part going down is quite steep, but then it really evens out. It takes about thirty minutes to come up, and fifteen minutes to come down. I'm not quite clear why there's this difference, maybe I just misread it.
(Pan Pipes sound mysteriously; the chair bumps a little as it runs over the pylon support wheels)
It's a bit lumpy over the pylons, isn't it?
Well, here we are onto the flat bit, as you can see; when you look ahead there, see the streams of people?
Now, as that's the exciting bit over, we'll just - fade to black...

Monte Solaro Chairlift - Capri Island, Italy
This is the Monte Solaro chairlift (seggiovia) in Anacapri, on the island of Capri in Italy. Monte Solaro is the highest point on the Island of Capri and from the top you get a superb view of the gulf of Naples with Mount Vesuvius in the distance. You also get a great view of the island’s famous ‘Il Faraglioni’ rock formation. The chairlift costs 10 euro for a return trip and is worth every penny. Hope you enjoy the ride !

Monte Solaro Chairlift on a Cloudy day - Anacapri, Capri Island, Italy
Is it worth going up the Monte Solaro chairlift on a cloudy day? Watch the video and hopefully it'll help you decide. We only had a limited time in Anacapri & Capri, so with no option to wait for a nicer, brighter day, we decided to go and try to enjoy what we could despite a grey day. Despite the wintery rain clouds and occasionally rainy showery gray skies, we still had an enjoyable time.
This video features the Monte Solaro Chair Lift, or as it's called in Italian, the Seggiovia: The journey up, some clips of the foggy cloudy view and then the way back down again.
If you're wondering whether to go up Monte Solaro even if the weather isn't perfect, I'd say, a sunny day with clear blue skies is definitely preferable for a nice from view from the top, but if you don't have a choice like us, the chairlift ride is still fun and even if the visibility isn't great from the top, you can still enjoy the amusement ride factor of the old-fashioned one person seat chair lift.

Capri is a small island on the south side of the Gulf of Naples, of area 10,4 sq. km and population 12.200 (2002). It has been a resort since the time of the Roman Republic. During the later half of the 19th century, Capri became a popular resort for European artists, writers and other celebrities. Nowadays, Capri is a famous luxury resort, with a unique character thanks to its morphology.
Main sights include the Faraglioni rocks, the Piazzetta square (La Piazzetta) in the town of Capri, the Gardens of Augustus, Marina Piccola (the little harbor), the town of Anacapri, Monte Solaro (the highest point), the Villa Malaparte (known from Jean-Luc Godard's movie Le mépris), the Blue Grotto (Grotta Azzurra), etc.

Capri Chairlift to Monte Solaro (HD) stunning views of Capri, Naples, Amalfi, Italy.
Climb onboard the Anacapri chairlift (seggiovia), sit back, relax and enjoy the wonderful views over Capri as you ascend slowly up to the peak of Monte Solaro. Once at the summit take a leisurely stroll or enjoy lunch and soak up the breathtaking panoramic views of the whole island. On a clear day you can see as far as the Bay of Naples, the Amalfi coast and the islands of Ischia and Procida.
The chairlift takes 12 minutes to reach the top of Mount Solaro and will cost you about 10 euros for a return ticket. The chairlift runs between 9:30am – 5pm but closes at 4pm in the spring and 3:30pm in the winter. Monte Solaro is the highest point on Capri at 589m.
Really worth doing, you wont regret it. Pay for the return and don’t even think about walking back down. The mountain scenery is very tranquil and the views from the top exceptional. Full facilities available at the summit.

A short boat trip from Sorrento, in Italy, brings you to the small island of Capri. After docking at the marina you can take the funicular railway up to the main town area and enjoy walking through the narrow streets and passageways. A short bus trip from there will take you to Piazza Vittoria, where you can embark on the famous 'Seggiovia di Monte Solaro', or chairlift to the summit of Mount Solaro. At the summit is a large viewing area with restaurant and spectacular views.
