Step 1: take train R5 from Espanya station in Barcelona
Step 2: stop at Aeri to take the cable cars or stop at Monistrol to take the train (Cremallera to go up)
When you're visiting Barcelona it's an absolute must to pay a visit to the Montserrat mountain range as well. It's just 45 minutes on train from the Barça center.
At Montserrat, which literally translates into sawtooth mountain, you can find the Benedictine Abbey Santa Maria de Montserrat, which hosts the Virgin of Montserrat.

Hiking Montserrat - day hike on top of St Jeroni and back to the monastery
This is a video about our day hike in Monsterrat.
We started the journey from Aeri by taking the tram up and the the St Joan Funicular. From there we took the left from the top of the Funicular to the path towards St. Jeroni. The hike takes appr. 1 hour to the top and you can hike appr. 1 hour back from the top to the Monastery.
Overall it is around 4-5 hour day trip. You can reach the aeri tram way from Barcelona with the train.
Avoid just the monastery - seems like all the Chinese tourists have invaded that area - the hike was excellent and took us through the scenic way. It's semi-demanding, so be prepared with some food, water and good clothes. Definately recommend doing if in the area.

Montserrat is one hour from Barcelona but bit of a hidden gem. Although plenty of tourists visit the monastery, the walking routes are very quiet. This place has a fascinating history with Napoleon and Himmler paying it a visit. Himmler specifically came looking for the holy grail which he believed would give him supernatural powers. It is easy to get here from Barcelona and a perfect day trip. We sleep in our car again and find out that many truck stops have showers to use for a small fee, a great budget travel hack.

Trip to Spain - Beautiful hike in Montserrat: Sant Jeroni and Ermita de Sant Antoni
I had a beautiful morning with my friend Raul Alhena in Montserrat, a magical mountain in Barcelona.
We climbed to the highest peak St Jeroni (1236 metres), and then went to a secret spot called St. Antoni, where we played a wonderful Tibetan singing bowl.

Places to see in ( Montserrat - Spain )
Montserrat is a multi-peaked rocky range located near the city of Barcelona, in Catalonia, Spain. Montserrat is part of the Catalan Pre-Coastal Range. The main peaks are Sant Jeroni, Montgrós and Miranda de les Agulles.
Montserrat is well known as the site of the Benedictine abbey, Santa Maria de Montserrat, which hosts the Virgin of Montserrat sanctuary and which is identified by some with the location of the Holy Grail in Arthurian myth.
Montserrat literally means saw (serrated, like the common handsaw) mountain in Catalan. It describes its peculiar aspect with multitude of rock formations which are visible from a great distance. The mountain is composed of strikingly pink conglomerate, a form of sedimentary rock. Montserrat is Spain's first National Park. In 1493, Christopher Columbus named the Caribbean island of Montserrat Santa Maria de Montserrate, after the Virgin of Montserrat.
The Benedictine Abbey can be reached by road, by the Aeri de Montserrat cable car, or by the Montserrat Rack Railway. The lower stations of both the rack railway and the cable car can be reached by Ferrocarrils de la Generalitat de Catalunya train from Barcelona's Plaça d'Espanya station. From the abbey, the Funicular de Sant Joan funicular railway goes up to the top of the mountain, where there are various abandoned hovels in the cliff faces that were previously the abodes of reclusive monks, while the Funicular de la Santa Cova descends to a shrine.
The highest summit of Montserrat is called Sant Jeroni (Saint Jerome) and stands at 1,236 meters (4,055 feet) above sea-level. It is accessible by hiking trails which connect from the top entrance to the Sant Joan funicular, the monastery, or the base of the mountain. The Cavall Bernat 1,111 meters (3,645 feet) is an important rock feature popular with climbers.
( Montserrat - Spain ) is well know as a tourist destination because of the variety of places you can enjoy while you are visiting the city of Montserrat . Through a series of videos we will try to show you recommended places to visit in Montserrat - Spain

Montserrat Spain Travel Vlog 2018 - Amazing Mountain Views And Monastery Hike
Montserrat is a multi peaked mountain range in Spain, not too far from Barcelona. The hike had stunning scenery, overlooking rock formations and beautiful skylines. The highest point is about 4000 feet which had some snow, even in March. Santa Maria De Montserrat Abbey, founded in the 11th century, is also located up on the mountains where approximately 70 monks still reside. There are a few trails, varying in difficulty but most definitely worth a visit.
Many people report feeling a sacred energy at certain parts of the mountain climb and some have claimed to have seen visions of the Virgin Mary. Something we found interesting was a rock formation at 2:06 and 2:11 which looks like a giant alien head carving. The other amazing aspect was seeing goats climb across a very steep rock without falling at all!
