Take the Tour Norwegian Lady
Norwegian Lady Statues are located in the sister cities of Moss, a coastal town and municipality in the county of Østfold, Norway, and at the Oceanfront (boardwalk) in the coastal resort city of Virginia Beach, Virginia in the United States. They commemorate the lives lost in the 1891 shipwreck of the Norwegian barque Dictator off the coast of Virginia Beach and the lifesaving efforts of the community.
SHEEP crossing railway line!
Another footpath, another level crossing! This hidden footpath passes right through the middle of a Brett Aggregates site in the rural town of Cliffe in Kent, England. At the end of the path is Cliffe Brett Marine railway sidings which is a spur from the Grain Branch Line. There is a very busy industrial level crossing where I caught a Class 66 (66171) freight train shunting some wagons to be loaded and then left empty. This crossing is very busy and used by trucks AND sheep being herded by sheep dogs from a nearby field!
Footpath is RS60. Google Maps Reference:

R.I.P! 1939 Thrige elevator to be modernized by KONE @ Store Kongensgade 68, Copenhagen, Denmark
This elevator has stayed original for a really long time. 75 years that's a great age! Way to go Thrige! Excellent quality in design and craftmanship! However, now the time has come, and KONE has been chosen to modernize this elevator. That's the best choice and i expect KONE to do a great job as always. I met two KONE employees as i visited the elevator. The work actually first started the following monday (27/1), but they were here to deliver the materials in advance. First of all i managed to arrange the 1939 Thrige fixtures to be preserved for my private collection. YAY! Then they told that we could expect the following from the modernization:
* New motor
* New controllers
* New cables
* New KSS signalizatiom
* New full-height photocells
* New overspeed-governor/limiter, model OL-35 from WITTUR (generic)
* The M-series restart button will not be replaced
The package includes some generic components, but it also includes many geniune KONE components, most importantly, the signalization! My GOSH i'm SO HAPPY it won't be generic fixtures - that KONE will do the job - that it won't get inner doors - and that i will preserve the old buttons! GREAT! This is really the best possible outcome! I'm looking so much forward to see the finished mod. and also to get the buttons. I've made a more than 17 minutes long video dedicated to the memory of this legendary amazing classic elevator!
RIP as original, but i'm sure this elevator will continue to serve for many decades in a shined up fashion!

The life in a small Russian town
Greetings from Russia! I live in a small Russian town and want to talk about it. First of all, you must understand that the Russian province is not as scary as you might think. Yes, there is no the Kremlin, the Statue of Liberty and the Eiffel Tower. But a person can live here. There are drainage, heating, hot and cold water, electricity and even the Internet in small Russian town.
The main advantage of a small town in Russia is quiet, calm and relatively comfortable environmental conditions. This is due to the fact that almost the entire industry is destroyed in such places like Russian town.
Perhaps this is the perfect compromise between the metropolis and the countryside. Some senior people leave the big cities for a serene old age. Of course, if they were able to accumulate enough money for life in small town Russia.
The main disadvantage of a small Russian town is a lack of prospects for young people. Of course, even a dull backwater has a bar, restaurant, disco, and other primitive entertainment. But I doubt that you will be jumping on the dance floor until the old age, like a wild stallion.
Normal person wants to have a steady job, a comfortable environment for living, family, beloved and children. However, the small Russian towns are experiencing an acute shortage of working places. And even the existing vacancies are low-paying.
As a result, some young people migrate to big cities for earning big money. Other young people stay in their hometown, agreeing with the low-paid work and hopeless life town in Russia.
In short, the situation is very depressing. Active youth migrates to big cities. Their places are taken by boring old people from metropolis. So small Russian towns are gradually turning into
emptying museums, which are overgrown with moss and are covered with dust.
And what about life in your small towns? Write in the comments. And subscribe to my channel and show this video to your friends, who are interested in life in Russia. From Russia with love!

Thomas Laqueur: What is the Work of the Dead?
Diogenes the Cynic, the dog philosopher, told his disciples that he wanted his dead body thrown over the walls of the city. They objected that he would be eaten by beasts and picked at by birds. True, he said, and agreed to be left unburied with a stick in his hands to keep away predators. But you will be dead and won't know that they are molesting your corpse, they replied. True, he said, and that is why it makes no difference what happens to my body.
Over the millennia many people have thought that Diogenes had a point but no culture has ever acted on his argument. Antigone's voice is the one we - or in any case we humans when we are not trying to dehumanize others - hear. Care for the dead is among the unwavering, unwritten customs of the gods...not some trifle of now or yesterday, but for all eternity. In this talk, Thomas Laqueur explores why Antigone is right, and what work the unfeeling dead body does for the living.
Laqueur is the Fawcett Distinguished Professor of History at University of California, Berkeley. He specializes in the cultural history of the body, and in the history of humanitarianism and of popular religion and literacy. His books include Work of the Dead; Solitary Sex; Making Sex; Religion and Respectability; and, in progress, a short history of humanitarianism and a book about dogs in Western art. He writes for the London Review of Books and was a founding editor of the journal Representations. He received a Mellon Foundation Distinguished Achievement Award, which he used to commission and write a libretto for an opera based on Jose Saramago's novel Death with Interruptions; as well as to support projects on human rights, religion, and science studies. He is a fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences and a member of the American Philosophical Society.

Oslo is Rubbish. The Art Scene.
Oslo is rubbish, and so is its art scene.
This lighthouse in Oslo was made from plastic fished from the ocean. Oslo is also known as the Fjord City. Where else can you go for a swim in the city centre? Let's keep it that way and keep the ocean clean. Visit the lighthouse at Bygdøynes by the Norwegian Maritime Museum. As Europe’s Green Capital of 2019, Oslo has innovated lots of sustainable solutions for travel, eating and cultural experiences simply by harnessing power from the waste it produces. That's why Oslo is rubbish. But in a good way!

Hvordan strikke sokker (tovet) / How to knit socks (felted) - Prym Maxi knitting mill
In this video I show you how to knit socks on a Prym Maxi knitting mill. The socks I have knitted is felted, but this is not necessary. You can easily add/remove stitches and rows to make the sock suitable for both smaller and bigger feets.

LA MADE Strong Words Feb 2019
Strong Words returns to LA Made! This popular Silver Lake arts salon is bursting with laughter, stories, music, and art. Join L.A.'s freshest and most outrageous storytellers, the rocking house band Abby and the Myth, plus a powerful pop-up art gallery for a 90-minute celebration of creativity and community.
Strong Words began in 2011 at the legendary Body Builders Gym in Silver Lake when three writers came together to share their stories in a public forum. The response was immediate, and the salon-style event grew to include music, visual art and--most of all--a spirit of community. Strong Words moved to nearby Atwater Village in 2016 in a glorious new outdoor venue where adventurous audiences are embracing the chance to listen and participate, to laugh and cry and absorb new ideas in real time. Last year, Strong Words expanded, adding quarterly shows in Palm Springs. The event is curated by Larry Dean Harris and Michael Hirabayashi.
