Mt. Widodaren Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park
Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park is located in East Java, Indonesia, to the east of Malang and to the southeast of Surabaya, the capital of East Java. It is the only conservation area in Indonesia that has a sand sea,[2] the Tengger Sand Sea (Indonesian: Laut Pasir Tengger), across which is the caldera of an ancient volcano (Tengger) from which four new volcanic cones have emerged. This unique feature covers a total area of 5,250 hectares at an altitude of about 2,100 m.[2] The massif also contains the highest mountain in Java,[3] Mount Semeru (3,676 m), four lakes and 50 rivers.
The Tengger Sand Sea has been protected since 1919. The Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park was declared a national park in 1982
There are five volcanoes inside the Tengger Caldera: Mount Bromo (2,329 m), Mount Batok (2,470 m), Mount Kursi (2,581 m), Mount Watangan (2,661 m), and Mount Widodaren (2,650 m). Mount Batok is the only peak that is no longer active, and is covered in casuarina (Indonesian: cemara) trees. Mount Widodaren, located beside Mount Batok, contains the cave Widodaren, which is considered sacred by local people.
The Tengger Sand Sea with Mount Bromo in the background
The five volcanoes within the caldera are surrounded by a vast area of sand called the Tengger Sand Sea, which in turn is surrounded by a steep crater wall of the larger Tengger Caldera with height differences of about 200--600 meters. Other mountains around the Tengger caldera are: Mount Pananjakan (2,770 m) Mount Cemorolawang (2,227 m), Mount Lingker (2,278 m), Mount Pundak Lembu (2,635 m), Mount Jantur (2,705 m), Mount Ider-ider (2,527 m) and Mount Mungal (2,480 m). The peak of Mount Pananjakan is the most popular place to watch the entire volcanic complex of Tengger.
The area in and around the park is inhabited by the Tengger people,[2] one of the few significant Hindu communities remaining on the island of Java. The local religion is a remnant from the Majapahit era and therefore quite similar to that on Bali but with even more animist elements. The Tengger people are believed to be descendents of the Majapahit empire and were driven into the hills after mass arrival in the area of Muslim Madurese in the 19th century.

BROMO-SEMERU VOLCANIC MASSIF – The Greatest Scenery View in Indonesia
Bromo-Semeru Volcanic Massif is centre piece of Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park which is located in East Java, Indonesia, southeast of Surabaya, the capital of East Java. The Park is the only conservation area in Indonesia that has a sand sea called “The Tengger Sand Sea”.
The Tengger Sand Sea lays inside one of the largest calderas in the World – The Tengger Caldera - which is 10 x 8,5 km in size with average depth over 110 meters. Inside of caldera towers group of four volcanoes Mt. Bromo, Mt. Batok, Mt. Kursi and Mt. Widodaren. Outside of the caldera lays Mt. Semeru (3.676 m) the highest mountain of Java. Both Mt. Bromo and Mt.Semeru are most active volcanoes in the complex with Mt. Bromo’s more than 60 eruptions since 1767.
From the observation point on the South side rim of the caldera there is spectacular view of this unique configuration of four volcanic cones with Mt.Semeru towering in the background. View is considered as most scenic and most photographed view in Indonesia not only because of unique configuration of all five volcanoes but also for other unusual attraction – caldera’s morning fogs – which are created mainly because caldera’s altitude of 2.100 m. Fogy mornings enhance this spectacular view since one can see different scenery configuration almost every single morning.
Morning fog movement in the caldera is demonstrated in the video together with Mt. Semeru post eruption smoke stretching across the top of the mountain.
View of Mt. Bromo crater’s acidic lake was taken in the period of volcano inactivity (volcano is erupting in Strombolian eruption in 5-8 years periods), while Mt. Semeru eruptions are documented in video by post eruption smoke on the top of the mountain. These small eruption occurred during my stay in half an hour periods.
I hope you will enjoy this different yet spectacular video
Cheers

Mount Bromo (Gunung Bromo),Destination Volcanoes, East Java, INDONESIA
Mount Bromo (2,329m) is easily recognized as the entire top has been blown off and the crater inside constantly belches white sulphurous smoke. It sits inside the massive Tengger caldera. with a diameter of approximately 10km, surrounded by the Laut Pasir (Sea of Sand) of fine volcanic sand. The overall effect is unsettlingly unearthly, especially when compared to the lush green valleys all around the caldera.
The major access point is Cemoro Lawang (also Cemara Lawang or Cemora Lawang - blame the East Javanese accent!) at the northeastern edge of the caldera, but there are also trails from Tosari (northwest) and Ngadas (southwest). The village of Ngadisari, on the road from Probolinggo about 5.5km before Cemoro Lawang, marks the entrance to the national park. Both Cemoro Lawang and Ngadisari are rather picturesque, with brightly-painted houses and flower beds outside.
The volcanic complex of Tengger forms a condition where a new caldera of volcano forms inside a larger and more ancient caldera. There are five volcanoes inside the Tengger Caldera: Mount Bromo (2,329 m), Mount Batok (2,470 m), Mount Kursi (2,581 m), Mount Watangan (2,661 m), and Mount Widodaren (2,650 m). The peak of Mount Pananjakan is the most popular place to watch the entire volcanic complex of Tengger.[5]
Further south in the national park, there is another volcanic complex called the Semeru Group or Jambangan Group. This area contains the highest peak of Java, Mount Semeru (3,676 m). Other mountains within this area are Mount Lanang (2,313 m), Mount Ayek-ayek (2,819 m), Mount Pangonan Cilik (2,833 m), Mount Keduwung (2,334 m), Mount Jambangan (3,020 m), Mount Gentong (1,951 m), Mount Kepolo (3,035 m), and Mount Malang (2,401 m). The Semeru forest area has many rivers that are former lava lines from Mount Semeru. The Semeru group is considered to be very productive, producing volcanic matters such as lava, volcanic ash, and hot cloud and spreading it to the surrounding area. The lower area is surrounded with fertile rice fields.

Within the caldera rise the deeply fissured volcanic cones of Batok and Bromo, the latter is still active with a cavernous crater from which smoke blows skyward. Temperatures at the top of Mt #Bromo range about 5-18 degrees Celsius. To the south of the park is a rolling upland plateau dissected by valleys and dotted with several small scenic lakes, extending to the foot of Mt Semeru.

Travel & Adventure at WHISPERING SANDS Mount Bromo, East Java , Indonesia
The History:
Known as Whispering Sands, Mount Bromo has 2,392 meters high above sea level and is located in 4 districts of East Java, there are Probolinggo, Pasuruan, Malang, and Lumajang. Although located in 4 different areas, but the peak of Mount Bromo located at Probolinggo. Sunrise will be an awesome view and never forgotten when reach the peak of Mount Bromo.
The Pasir Berbisik (Whispering Sands) setting is a large “sea of sand” in the middle of the caldera in which the crater and Mount Batok are also located. Apparently, the area received its name due to an Indonesian film that was partially filmed there. The area is actually quite beautiful. Standing there you feel like standing on top of the world as giant white fluffy and marshmallowey clouds pass you by.

KALDERA - PEGUNUNGAN TENGGER
