Mt Erskine Salt Spring Island hike on a Sunday afternoon
The easy hike up Mt. Erskine on Salt Spring Island. It's real easy if you are 12 and in great shape. If you are close to 50 or so it is a challenging hike. Scott Simmons One Percent Realty Vancouver Island

Wayne On The Road EP031
My visit to the wonderful Salt Spring Island in British Columbia Canada. I explored the island alone and with friends. Including two views from Mount Erskine and Mount Maxwell Provincial Park. Fulford Harbour and Vesuvius Bay. I saw a lot more but was also visiting with friends I have there so didn't shoot as much video as I should have but I've included random photos I captured while out exploring plus timelapse video of a couple gorgeous sunsets.
This is what I got, a little taste of the beautiful island of Salt Spring.
Thanks for following along,
Wayne

Forest Messenger Mount Maxwell Saltspring Island
Running through the trails by Mount Maxwell in Salt Spring Island. Keep it safe, keep it sound, enjoy the trails and don't leave your litter on the ground. We actually picked up our jacket, but then we lost it by hiking on the road less traveled. If somebody finds it, please message me and give it back! Thanks!
Mt. Maxwell hike on Salt Spring Island
This was our hike of the popular Mt. Maxwell (Baynes Peak) on Salt Spring Island. You can actually drive right up to the lookout at the top but we chose to hike up from the south side near Buscoyne Bay. Beautiful hike and great summit views!

First Time on Salt Spring Island | camping + vegan eats
Hey everyone! I went to Salt Spring Island for my first time this most recent long weekend here in Canada and it was really a very interesting, beautiful and rewarding trip.
It was great to get out of the city and get more grounded as a human.
Lots of the trip consisted of ferries, camping, eating, and doing some exploring and climbing.
Info and links:
We took BC Ferries from Tsawwassen to Long Harbor, Salt Spring Island. If I were to bike next time I would probably take the ferry to Victoria then to Fulford which is a lot closer to our camping site.
Camping: We stayed in Ruckle Provincial Park which is a gorgeous coastal park with views of ferries going by and lots of incredible stars. There is water, pit toilets, firepits, and maintained trails and campsites. Pretty affordable but I would definitely try to get reservations unless for peace of mind.
Bus: There is a bus that leaves Ruckle during the summer but it only leaves the park twice a day. Not really good to depend on but better than nothing, I guess? The actual bus service on the more main parts of the island seems decent, though.
Rock Salt Cafe: This is where I got a nice tofu curry dish.
Morningside Cafe: Okay absolutely incredible and beautiful place. I legit cried when I entered and sat down in this place for my first time. Food is great but the people and energy is even better.
Mount Maxwell: This is where we got an awesome view of the area plus did some climbing. There were some decent routes that were fun to do with bolts and top-rope... I'm not really too experienced with climbing but I had a good time!
Salt Spring Wild Cider: This place was in a nice location but were unfortunately sold out of a lot of the vegan options they had. It was the long weekend so I'll give them a pass but it did make us even more hungry and cranky until we get some more food.
Salt Spring Soft Serve: Okay BEST vegan soft serve I have had. It's creamy, not icy with a great selection of sundae toppings. I highly recommend the Strawberry Love one.
After some more vegan eats at camp (featuring the new Lightlife burgers vs. Beyond Meat) we packed up and made the journey back to Vancouver.
Have you been to Salt Spring before? Did I miss anything? I definitely want to go back soon, this time hopefully by bike.

Walk through Boyle Point Provincial Park on Denman Island
3 years ago we went hiking in a small trail on Denman Island, BC. I was very uneasy the entire time and there were no birds chirping. We kept hearing noises and when the camera cuts off, we noticed my boyfriends sunglasses perched high up in a tree. There was NOBODY else there as it was before 7am and the trail was small enough that we would have had to pass somebody. We have no idea how it happened or how they got there. But we hightailed it outta there so fast.
Saltspring Island,The Whole Way Around
Join me again, for a short Bushby Mustang ll flight out of my home airport of Nanaimo, BC. Our flight will take us 'The Whole Way Around' Saltspring Island, the largest of British Columbia's southern Gulf Islands embedded in the Pacific between the southern BC mainland, and Vancouver Island. Fasten your seatbelt and prepare for fun!

Not here is an article By Joe Macmillan on Hiking Tips - Five Reasons Not to Buy Discount Hiking Gear
Weather you may be a first time hiker, are thinking about taking up hiking or one who has been at it for a long time, hiking tips from the right person can be invaluable for your long term enjoyment of a lifetime on the hiking trail.
Poor advice at the outset could have you undergo a very bad experience even on your first hike. We are certain you do not want to happen.
Here are a number of tips we wish we had heard prior to first outing.
Do not buy discounted hiking gear. You see the advertisements blaring at you to buy this or that at 75% off. Do not be tempted. The main reason for this tip is that you may be buying bootleg goods which is against the law first of all. Secondly the goods may be factory rejects. The only time we would advise you to buy hiking gear at a discount would be if your favorite outdoor gear store is having a sale on regular priced merchandise.
Buy the best gear you can afford. This tip does not mean that you should buy the most expensive hiking boots or the most expensive hiking jacket. What we mean by this is you should do your research first based upon what hiking and camping equipment has proven to be best by your friends or online reviews by those who have done so. Sometimes the most expensive may just not live up to the price charged. There may be an instance when those very expensive hiking boots leaked or fell apart.
Do the research. There are thousands of online reviews on every conceivable piece of hiking and camping gear. Avoid the reviews by manufacturers. According to them, their goods are the best.
Deal with a reputable outdoor equipment store with a knowledgeable staff. Again, ask your friends which one is best. This level of store will employ a staff who are also outdoor doers. No doubt they have had a chance to do their own testing and will have a wealth of first hand knowledge at their table.
Invest in a GPS unit. We put this item of hiking gear in here because it is an amazing piece of technology that will help you to get out of a tight situation. We remember the first time we set out with the map and compass. We had to travel to a lake three miles through the woods without a trail of any kind. This is the time to trust your gear. There is no arguing with the GPS.
Hiking clothes are a vital part of your outdoor trips. A lightweight, waterproof pair of pants may be stuffed in a pack and take up little space. Get used to wearing a cap on your head. It will protect you from the sun but mostly it will keep you warm in winter and make sure it is waterproof to keep your head dry in the rain.
A warm pair of waterproof mitts or gloves may come in handy. Again these are lightweight and help to keep you protected from the elements.
If you are able to keep both the hands and head warm you will hold the heat within the body.

Intense Echo on Mount Maxwell
