On the way to the viewpoint to My. OAKAN a KITSUNE ???? JAPANESE wild FOX goddess came to give us her blessings and receive some delicacies (off camera????). And then the luck was with us, as we arrived to LAKE MASHU usually covered in clouds but not today!! We had a stunning view of it, the clearest lake in the world because no River flows in it or out of it. And on the way back we even met troops of Bambi Ezo reindeer to complete today's safari drive through beautiful HOKKAIDO.

Sooo happy to be here with no other visitors and to have nobody tell me to get out of the poisonous fumes area! I love such landscape and the fumigating pimples of the mountain! The Sulphur Yellow is so stunning to watch!! Iozan (硫黄山 Sulfur Mountain) is an active volcano in the vicinity of Kawayu Onsen. Its yellow, sulfurous vents can be viewed from a close proximity as visitors are free to walk around the steaming, smoking area. Eggs, cooked by the natural heat of the mountain, are usually on sale near the vents.
From mid July to early October and from early February to mid March infrequent buses between Lake Mashu, Kawayu Station, Kawayu Onsen and Lake Kussharo make a stop at Mount Iozan. During the rest of the year, there is no bus service. Hokkaido is huge and has countless National Parks with amazing wildlife so you better rent a car and drive around to see all!
Hokkaido, Lake Akan 阿寒湖
Lake Akan is a freshwater lake sitting in the center of East Hokkaido. It is also a famous place for velvet-like moss globes of Marimo that are formed by the complex tides of the lake. Taking a pleasure boat and landing at Churui Island, we can see beautiful Marimo moss balls, with the largest being 30cm in diameter.
Early in the morning, we went up Mt. Hakutosan near the lake. It was really impressive to see Lake Akan and Mt. Oakan with thin layers of clouds hanging over their crowns.
Along the lakeside, there is a site of the bubbling mud of an active volcano, called “Bokke” in Ainu meaning boiling place.
阿寒湖は北海道東部中央に位置する淡水湖です。ここは、湖底の藻が複雑な波によって回転し、ビロード状の球体となったマリモの生育地としても有名です。遊覧船に乗ってチュウルイ島に上陸すると、展示観察センターで直径30cmにもなるマリモを見ることができます。
早朝、湖畔の白湯山に登りました。そこで見た阿寒湖と、薄い雲をまとった雄阿寒山の美しさは格別でした。
散策路には、アイヌ語で「煮え立つ」という意味のボッケと呼ばれる泥火山の噴出地があります。

Take an early morning tour through the snowy scenery around Lake Akan
In winter, you can explore a freezing natural environment where it is not uncommon for early morning temperatures to reach -20°C. The winter chill creates magical natural beauty. You can walk across the completely frozen Akan lake to its island in around 10 minutes. You can also see the sunrise over Mt. Oakan and beautiful natural phenomena such as frost flowers, rime and diamond dust. The tour meets at 6:20, early mornings from late January to mid-March.
In summer, this island can only be reached by boat.
Untouched Hokkaido
Eastern Hokkaido has a history and geography all of its own. Despite its location in Japan, it is actually on the North American tectonic plate, and as a result it is full of extremely rare plant life. Eastern Hokkaido locals have coexisted for generations with the area's rare wildlife and the nature in the national parks that those animals call home, and as a result there are many natural areas that are untouched by human hands.

Our travel continues on the other side of lake Kussharo, the sand of the shore is full of holes! Actually if you dig a hole, from underneath hot spring water will fill it up and you can dip into it your feet and have a natural spa time! From there we are crossing to a higher elevation where the fog is so thick that you can't see around more than 25 meter, very eerie feeling! And lastly we visit Lake Onetto that has a very special emerald green color thanks to some minerals and when the surface is still, it has a mirror-like effect.

Here is a famous sightseeing spot in Teshikaga Town.
This place is a caldera lake, and the lake's blue color is vivid.
The parking ticket fee is 500 yen (for car), and you can also use it at Mt. Iozan. It takes about 15 minutes from this lake to the mountain by car.

Day 5 of my Spring trip to Hokkaido! Still in Sapporo, I wasn't quite sure what to do so I went to the Shiro Koibito Park and then had not one but TWO soft-serve Ice cream because they were that amazing *_*
Then I rushed to this Animal cafe in central Sapporo for my first experience with OWLS & HEDGEHOG! They charged by per 15 mins. I stayed for 30 minutes because that was all the time my schedule could fit =( The owls were so adorable!
Quickly made my way back to the hostel to pick up my bag and off to Furano I went! The bus ride to Furano was comfortable and therapeutic. So therapeutic that I absent mindedly left my luggage behind on the bus. YES, I'm THAT much of a muddle head! The luggage compartment was under the Bus and anything that's out of sight is out of mind to me - I'm almost as bad as Dory.
But my hostel owner managed to save my day and praise God for aligning everything together to make it all possible! Thankfully Furano was the final stop and the bus route back to the Bus terminal office just around the corner. If I lost my little cabin-sized bag, which by the way, is the ONLY bag I have other than the day-bag on my shoulder, it will probably ruin the trip. But thank God for everything!

遊湖一周全程約 1 小時 30 分鐘，中途會在チウルイ島停留，可到島上的「綠球藻展示觀察中心」了解有關綠球藻的生態資料，並且觀察槽中大大小小的綠球藻，中心更特設水底攝影裝置「直播」綠球藻的生長情況，趣味盎然。汽船的門票已包含觀察中心的入場費，不用另行購買
Lake Akan is a beautiful crater lake in Akan National Park. It is home to marimo, a rare algae species that forms itself into beautiful green balls. Left alone for a few centuries, Lake Akan's marimo can reach the size of soccer balls. The algae have been designated a National Special Natural Monument.
Sightseeing boats leave Akankohan for 1-hour cruises of the lake, which include a stop at the Marimo Exhibition Center on one of the lake's islands and a ride into the more remote sections of the lake.
Two mountains near Lake Akan compliment the scenery and offer some longer hiking courses. Oakan (Male Mountain) and Meakan (Female Mountain) are both volcanoes whose eruptions formed the landscape around Lake Akan. Meakan remains active and frequently emits sulphuric fumes. Hikers should check with the tourist information center for volcano conditions.

Visited northeast part of Hokkaido in June this year. A lot of nice food and Killer Whales as the main attraction. Weather could of course have been a bit better... Good trip!

Finally we get to try this Japan-only summer Lemon Fermented Frappuccino by Starbucks! My dearest friend and Sagittarius ♐ Sister Oxana reeeallly liked it, she said it was the best one we tried so far!! As to myself, not so much as I got distracted by the ???? cookie crumbles they add inside and make you drink a wet lemon cake ???? .... anyway I am not sure if you can try it in your country? please let me know! In 2018, Starbucks started the Japan Wonder Project. This project introduces unique, and often unknown, Japanese flavors in the form of Starbucks beverages. Starbucks Lemon Yogurt Hakko Frappuccino is one of them! Hakko means fermentation in Japanese. Fermented ingredients are said to help to fight the summer heat, so Starbucks decided to combine some of the best fermented ingredients in this one drink.
Yogurt, cream cheese and fermented rice in the form of Japanese amazake create the base of this new beverage. The amazake is meant to enhance the refreshing yogurt-cheese base in a unique way and add health benefits. The base is blended with a tart lemon sauce and freeze-dried cream cheese bits as well as cheese sable cookie crumbles. They only sell the Tall version for the expensive $6.30 USD ¥681
