AlburyCity's Wagirra Trail Project
A key action of AlburyCity's Murray River Experience Master Plan is the construction of more than 70 kilometres of Murray River Trail, connecting Wonga Wetlands with the Hume Weir.
The trail will be named Wagirra, reflecting the significance of the river to local Aboriginal people, and the heritage of those who have constructed it. Wagirra is a Wiradjuri word that means to step on the ground.
What's more, the trail is being constructed by Albury's Wagirra Trail Project team, which is made up of members from the local indigenous community. It's a project that's given its participants the training, skills, experience and confidence they need to develop a carrer. For some, it's also been a life changing experience.
