The Musée de l'Ancien Évêché is a departmental museum located in Grenoble, France and dedicated to the Isère heritage through the history of its Bishop's palace. Inaugurated in 1998, it is settled in the former Bishop's palace, near Grenoble Cathedral. The museum gives access to the remains of an early Christian baptistry and to a section of the vestiges of the Gallo-Roman wall in the basement of the building.

The permanent exhibition Isère through History displays items and paintings relating to the development of Isère from pre-history to the present day. The museum also shows regularly temporary exhibitions of local artists. In December 2014, a public garden was inaugurated near the entrance.

With its collections of ancient, modern and contemporary art, the Musée de Grenoble offers you a chance to traverse the history of western painting from the 13th to the 20th centuries. Included are major masterpieces of classical Flemish, Dutch, Italian and Spanish painting; one of 20th century Europe’s richest collections; and all the great post-1945 contemporary art trends, right up to the most recent artworks of the 2000s.

Créé en 1798, le musée de Grenoble n’a cessé de s’enrichir pour présenter aujourd’hui aux visiteurs plus de 900 œuvres. Un ensemble unique, tant par ses collections d’art ancien que moderne et contemporain.
Créé en 1798, le musée de Grenoble n’a cessé de s’enrichir pour présenter aujourd’hui aux visiteurs plus de 900 œuvres. Un ensemble unique, tant par ses collections d’art ancien que moderne et contemporain.
Une visite dans les collections du musée permet de parcourir l’histoire de la peinture occidentale du 13e au 21e siècle, avec, pour chaque période, des œuvres de premier plan : de grands chefs-d’œuvre de la peinture classique flamande, néerlandaise, italienne, espagnole ; l’une des plus riches collections en Europe du 20e siècle ; toutes les grandes tendances de l’art contemporain depuis 1945.
S’ajoute enfin à ces œuvres, un fonds d’antiquités égyptiennes étudié et documenté par Champollion, lors de ses séjours à Grenoble.
Montagne et paysage, l'estampe japonaise s'expose au Musée de l'ancien Evêché de Grenoble
Dans le Japon du XVIIème siècle, l'estampe est élevée au rang d’art, avant d'être frappée par la censure. L’exposition présente plus de 130 planches remarquables, et notamment un album des célèbres Trente-six vues du mont Fuji.

Connaissez-vous Andry-Farcy ? Partez à la rencontre de ce personnage qui fut conservateur au Musée de Grenoble, 1er musée d'art moderne de France.
La série « Secret de Musée » propose de découvrir la région avec pour point d’entrée ses musées les plus emblématiques et les œuvres qu’ils recèlent. Chaque épisode de la série dévoile une œuvre du lieu et le secret qui l’entoure. Partant d’un récit autour de cette œuvre, la focale s’élargit progressivement au musée puis à la destination dans lequel celui-ci s’inscrit.
La narration est menée par Patrick Baud, créateur du blog Axolot dédié aux histoires étranges et aux secrets révélés.

This is the first episode of Discover European Cities short documentary program that aims to cover unpopular cities in Europe in a short video clip. This program shows quickly main areas in each city visited with popular monuments in the city. Also, Dicover European Cities program will cover each city by less than a 5 minutes video. This video was made using iPad Air camera.
Grenoble is a city of around 550,000 inhabitants located in south-eastern France, in the Rhône-Alpes region that encompasses the French Alps.
The climate is quite cold in winter, with days of snow almost every year. Summers are known to be hot, as mountains surrounding the town stop any wind.
Grenoble is crossed by two rivers, the Drac and the Isère, and is surrounded by three mountain chains, the Vercors, Chartreuse and Belledonne.

Reaching Grenoble
Air
There are three airports near Grenoble:
Grenoble Isère Airport
Also known as St Geoirs,is a small low-cost airport. Flights are more frequent in the ski season.
easyJet and ryanair and Norwegian Airlines offer flights.
Lyon Airport
Also known as Saint Exupéry formerly is farther away, about 100 km (1 h by bus, car or train).
Geneva Airport
Geneva Airport, 157 km from Grenoble, is a usual destination of many flight companies, and can be cheaper than Lyon airport.
Car
• A41, Geneva 1hour and a half(via Chambery)
• A48, Lyon 1 hour

Grenoble can be difficult to navigate by car, but once you get there the Park and Ride (parking relais) system operated by Semitag-parking is a good way of getting around. (see trams and buses)
Train
Several high speed trains (TGV) from SNCF:
-Paris to Grenoble directly every day, for a three-hour trip of 640 km.
-Lyon (Part-Dieu station) This takes around an 1h15 to 1h30 with the TER (regional trains)
-Geneva in Switzerland 2 hours from the Cornavain station in Geneva's center.
To eat:
-Budget-restaurants: Tacos de Lyon in Sainte-Claire and Tandoori Express.
-Average-Restaurants: Restaurants in Place Grenette like Sporting, Au Bureau,and Cafe Laffe
-High-end restaurants: Auberge Napoléon, Restaurant L'Epicurien.

Best Hotel: Le Grand Hotel in rue de la république.
Average Hotels: Novotel Hotel, Europole Hotel, and Hotel Ibis.
