The National Museum in Managua of Nicaragua
The National Museum, Managua, Nicaragua.
At the end of the 19th century one of the largest and most important centers for artistic and cultural expositions in Nicaragua was created: the National Museum. The collection of the National Museum is nowadays housed in a monumental building and it offers a great variety of exhibitions, ranging from prehistorical bones and pre-Columbian ceramics (4,000 years old) to modern paintings and recent sculptures.
The building that houses the National Museum is called the National Palace of Culture (Palacio National de la Cultura), located in the historical center of Managua. The museum, fully named 'National Museum Dioclesiano Chávez', offers nine rooms with permanent and temporal expositions. A small summary of the institution and its different expositions follows in this Special.

Qatar National Museum: A Look Indise Doha's Latest Mega Project That Opened To Public: Jean Nouvel
National Museum of Qatar: This $434 million Museum In Doha Is Designed By Jean Novel
It took almost a decade to build, was finished three years late and cost £330million ($434 million) - but Qatar's vast national museum is finally open.
It resembles a cluster of flying saucers, though its design was actually inspired by a desert rose.
'Architecture to give a voice to heritage whilst celebrating (the) future,' tweeted the museum's renowned French architect Jean Nouvel, also responsible for the Louvre Abu Dhabi.
The pale, futuristic 52,000-square-metre (560,000 square feet) structure located on Doha's waterfront corniche will be the first notable building visitors to Qatar see as they make their way from the airport to the city centre.
Even in a country which is being built, rebuilt and utterly transformed for the 2022 football World Cup, the national museum could be the single most eye-catching design of all Qatar's new buildings.
The entrance includes 114 fountain sculptures in a 900-metre-long (2,950ft) lagoon and the museum's multi-curved roof is made up of 76,000 panels in 3,600 different shapes and sizes.
Inside, there is more than 1,500 metres (4,920ft) of gallery space.
Among the exhibits is a 19th-century carpet embroidered with 1.5million Gulf pearls and the oldest Koran yet discovered in Qatar, also dating back to the 1800s.
'This is a museum that narrates the story of the people of Qatar,' Sheikha Amna bint Abdulaziz bin Jassim al-Thani, the museum's director, has stated.
The National Museum of Qatar also stands on the site of the former palace of Sheikh Abdullah bin Jassim al-Thani -- son of the founder of modern Qatar. The palace has been restored as part of the massive project.
The museum, which officials say celebrates Qatar's Bedouin past and energy-rich present, also reflects the country's massive wealth and ambition.
And as well as an architectural and cultural statement, the new museum is also a political one by the Qataris.
It is among a growing list of spectacular buildings in Qatar, including the recently opened national library and Museum of Islamic Art further along the corniche.
The national museum is also the latest in the cultural 'arms race' and soft power course among Gulf nations, which includes Nouvel's Louvre in Abu Dhabi, opened to huge fanfare in 2017, designed to show-off the progressive aspects of the various competing emirate states.
And for Qatar, the museum's delayed opening - originally scheduled for 2016 - has given it a chance to reinforce its national identity from other Gulf states, say experts.
Since June 2017, Qatar has been diplomatically and economically blockaded by neighbouring former allies, including Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates, accused among other things of supporting terrorism.
Qatar rejects all charges and says the blockade is an attack on its sovereignty.
The bitter dispute has fractured long-standing Gulf alliances and the new museum will allow Qatar to reinforce its separateness from its rivals, says Sigurd Neubauer, a Middle East analyst based in Washington.
'On the basic level the museum represents Qatari identity, which has really accelerated in the post-blockade environment,' he said.
At the same time as the reputation of Doha's rivals appear 'inward-looking and regressive', because of incidents like the murder of Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi, Qatar's standing is the 'opposite', adds Neubauer.
'It's really not about the building, Qatar is trying to create an environment and national identity that provides a space towards independent thinking.
'It is doubling down on its own progressive reforms.'

Former director of National Palace Museum under fire for accepting new post in Beijing
Only three months after she stepped down from her old position as director of Taiwan’s National Palace Museum, Fung Ming-chu accepted a job as a consultant at the Palace Museum in Beijing. Authorities stated that Feng, who apparently made multiple trips to China during those three months, was not violating the law by accepting the new post, but lawmakers are worried that some secrets might be at stake.Fung Ming-chu accepted an offer to work as a consultant at Beijing’s Palace Museum not long after resigning as director of the National Palace Museum in May. Her hasty transition raised the eyebrows of some lawmakers.Ho Hsin-chunDPP LegislatorWhen Fung Ming-chu served as director of the National Palace Museum she was among those most familiar with the precious national treasures and artifacts held in its collections. Are there no concerns that she might divulge some secrets, or leak a cache of documents on our national treasures to China? The National Palace Museum, for its part, said it was unable to block Feng’s appointment under the Civil Servant Work Act. That law only prohibits former civil servants from taking positions on the boards of for-profit businesses in the same sector as their previous post within three years after leaving office.Voice of Lee Jin-huiNational Palace Museum SpokespersonWe cannot use the law to stop her (taking the post). But we are trying to communicate with the Mainland Affairs Council and the Directorate-General of Personnel Administration to confirm whether her taking the new post in China disqualifies her from getting her monthly pension.Fung worked at the National Palace Museum for 35 years and has a keen knowledge of artifacts housed in the prestigious museum. Legislators are calling for her to resign from her new post to avoid unnecessary speculation.

????????Mexico's presidential palace opens to public l Al Jazeera English
Mexico's new president, Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador, has opened the doors of Mexico's hitherto off-limits presidential palace.
Mexico's president has declared that the presidential residence and office, known as Los Pinos, will become a cultural centre, while he lives in his own home as part of his austerity drive.
Not all Mexicans are sure if President Obrador is making good on his promise of change for the people or if opening Los Pinos is just a publicity stunt, but in the meantime, people are flocking to take a look.
Al Jazeera's John Holman joined the tour in Mexico City.

Democratic Republic of Congo learns Korea’s museum management know-how
콩고민주공화국, 역량강화 연수 통해 한국의 박물관 운영 노하우 배워
The Democratic Republic of the Congo is rebuilding its national museum, which will reopen in September.
Ahead of that, officials from the country have come to Korea to get some tips on museum management.
Lee Min-sun reports. The Korea International Cooperation Agency and the Korea Cultural Heritage Foundation invited officials from Congo to a workshop where they could learn Korea's expertise in museum management.
The workshop was first held in 2017, and this year it focused on providing practical advice for the efficient operation of national museums.
The Democratic Republic of Congo is building a new national museum which will open in September. The museum there has been in a poor condition for over 60 years and is not easily accessible.
Participants visited several museums in Korea including Seoul Museum of History, the National Folk Museum of Korea and the National Palace Museum of Korea.
Congo is a multiracial country with about 450 races. So we have various exhibitions. But I saw technical advances in the management of Korean museums. All the classes and programs including museum operation, education, and cultural goods were useful.
Korean museums have efficient operating systems and each worker has expertise. In Congo's museums, one person would be in charge of multiple tasks. Also, I especially liked the education program about the preservation of exhibits.
Participants will wrap up the three-week cultural workshop by making their own plans for the operation of the new national museum. They will return to the Democratic Republic of the Congo on Friday, hoping to make practical use of the knowledge and advice from the program.

Beijing Capital Museum / 首都博物馆
The Capital Museum / 首都博物馆 is an art museum in Beijing, China. It opened in 1981 and moved into its present building in 2006, which houses a large collection of ancient porcelain, bronze, calligraphy, painting, jade, sculpture, and Buddhist statues from imperial China as well as other Asian cultures
Part of the museum's collections were formerly housed in the Confucius Temple on Guozijian Road in Beijing.
The Capital Museum was established in 1981 with a collection of some 83,000 objects. Although the museum pales in comparison to the visitors received in other major art museums in Beijing, such as the Palace Museum in the Forbidden City, the National Museum of China, and the National Art Museum of China; it has since then became one of the leading cultural institutions in the city, with the first five months of 2007 receiving more than 166,000 visitors.
The Beijing Capital Museum today contains over 200,000 cultural relics in its collection. Only a small fraction of the collection is exhibited, and a significant percentage of the museum's art collection comprises artifacts unearthed in Beijing.

NEW NATIONAL MUSEUM OF QATAR
Qatar Museums Authority (QMA) revealed on 23rd March, at MOMA, its exhibition plans for the new National Museum of Qatar designed by Pritzker Prize-winning architect Jean Nouvel.
Embodying the pride and traditions of Qatars people while offering international visitors a dialogue about rapid change and modernization, the National Museum of Qatar will be the setting for a program in which entire walls become cinematic displays, sonorous cocoons shelter oral-history presentations and hand-held mobile devices guide visitors through thematic displays of the collections treasures. Though built around an historic structure, the Fariq Al Salatah Palace, which had served as a museum of heritage since 1975, the National Museum of Qatar is conceived and designed as a thoroughly new institution, in keeping with the high aspirations that animate QMA.
