The feeling of sadness that Romanians feel will be seen in the whole week ahead. You can feel it in the silence of the regular people. I talked to many folks, on the street, in the market, in the neighbourhood and the simple people are grieving. I didn't expect this. I thought this might be a problem with the monarchists. Well no, this went far beyond into the society.

Every time I think of Queen Anne, I think of very concrete things, the way she talked to peasants, with bodyguards. I saw her once drinking beer with, I think they were bodyguards, in Paris at a hotel. She was very simple, very direct compared to the King who didn't interact easily with the people

11. SOUNDBITE (Romanian) Theodor Paleologu, former culture minister, professor:
Queen Anne, without losing her majestic, royal appearance, was very simple, very affable, talked to everybody, winked at everyone, gave sweets to kids. She was like that and I think she complemented the King very well.

STORYLINE
The body of Anne of Romania, the wife of Romania's deposed King Michael will be flown to Romania for the grandest royal funeral Romania has seen in almost 80 years.
Anne's body will lie in state at Peles Castle in the mountain resort of Sinaia, and later in Bucharest before a burial in the Curtea de Arges cemetery of the royal family on August 13.
Romania's royal house says Michael, who has cancer, will miss his wife's funeral on the advice of medics.
Four of Anne and Michael's five daughters will attend the funeral which is the biggest royal funeral in Romania since Queen Marie of Romania, a granddaughter of Queen Victoria died in 1938.
The Royal House said Anne's grandson Nicholas Medforth-Mills, whom Michael stripped of his title in August 2015 in unexplained circumstances, will attend.
Medforth-Mills had been third in line to the throne after his aunt and his mother.
The names of other royal families attending the funeral will be published on Thursday.
Anne married Michael six months after he was forced to abdicate by the communists in December 1947, did not visit Romania until she was almost 70 and did not speak the language.
Michael and Anne were denied entry to Romania in October 1994.
They flew back to Paris on the same flight 90 minutes later.
