Places to see in ( Nice - France ) Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art
The Musée d'art moderne et d'art contemporain, also known as MAMAC, is a museum dedicated to modern art and contemporary art. It opened on 21 June 1990, in Nice, France. The Museum is located near the Place Garibaldi. It was designed by two architects, Yves Bayard and Henri Vidal, and is shaped as a tetrapod arch straddling the course of the Paillon.
The monumentality of the project developed to cross the Paillon allows connection through a terrace, called the Promenade des Arts, from the Museum to the Theater. With its square plan, the architecture of the building is inspired by neo-classicism rules. The available area is approximately 4,500 m2, distributed over ten showrooms. The facades are covered with smooth white Carrara marble.
The entrance and the shop are located at the level of the esplanade Niki de Saint Phalle, which overlooks the Place Yves Klein. The gallery spaces are devoted to temporary exhibitions on the first floor, and the permanent collections are on the second and third floors. The entrance is free and opens daily from 10.00 am to 6:00 pm, except on Mondays and some holidays

Where to Experience the Best Modern and Contemporary Art in France, Episode 221
#joinusinfrance #modernart #contemporaryart #modernartfrance #modernartparis #modernartmuseum #contemporaryartmuseums #contemporaryartfrance
On today’s episode Elyse and Annie discuss the best places to see modern and contemporary art in France. She loves this stuff and pleads her case for the latest iteration of the arts really well. Maybe even people like me who prefer older more approachable art should check it out!
Modern and Contemporary Art in France We have a lot of museums in France, many of them in Paris, and most of them filled with beautiful old things. But today we are going to concentrate on modern and contemporary art you can see not just in Paris, but all over France.
The Difference Between Modern and Contemporary Art Modern Art includes art from the 20th Century starting in 1901. Contemporary Art includes art from the last 30 to 40 years.
Palais de Tokyo in Paris Sometimes Modern Art museums are worth visiting because of the architecture of the building itself. In the case of the Palais de Tokyo in Paris, it was part of the Trocadero and was reconverted into a space for contemporary art.
So the Palais de Tokyo is an interesting juxtaposition of a structure from another time and some of the most cutting-age art from today.
Musée d'Art Moderne de la Ville de Paris This is the other side of the Palais de Tokyo and displays contemporary art, but not quite as cutting edge as Tokyo.
Centre Pompidou in Paris In Europe, this is the biggest center for modern and contemporary art anywhere. We both agree that it is very nice and if you're only going to see ONE modern and contemporary museum in France, it should be this one.
There are still some curmudgeons who don't like the exterior look of this museum, but we think it's fun and visually interesting. The view from the top of the Beaubourg is also to die for!
Fondation Cartier In the 14th arrondissement not too far from the Catacombs, on Boulevard Raspail is the Fondation Cartier. The building was designed to hold contemporary art.
Fondation Vuiton This is a recent museum that opened in 2014 from the private collection of one of the richest men in France Bernard Arnault. Frank Gerhy designed the building which is worth a visit by itself. It is in the middle of the parc of the Bois de Boulogne, so a little bit out of the way in the 16th arrondissement. But you can go by metro + bus or by car.
This museum features a permanent collection of art from post WW2 on (last 50 years) and temporary exhibits by major contemporary artists. It is very popular and exhibits do sell out.
Picasso Museum in the Marais The Picasso Museum is modern art, it features mostly Picasso work and is included in the Museum Pass. Because it is in the Marais, it is easy to get to as well. You will see some of Picasso's most famous works there.
Jeu de Paume Museum in Paris This museum is very close to the Orangerie Museum and the buildings were built at the same time and look very similar. It was originally designed at an indoor tennis court and it is not a museum dedicated to photography.
This is a space for art photography and photography that has political or historical significance. Photography, and especially art photography originated in France.
Le Centquatre Paris This cultural center opened in 2008. It's a space that participates in all sorts of arts: temporary exhibits, music concerts, theater, poetry reading, bookshop and restaurant. It is not very far from the Sacré Coeur, in that area.
Mac Val Paris in the Val de Marne This is a contemporary art museum in the town of Vitry-sur-Seine in the general area of Disneyland Paris. Only French artists, relatively young, inexpensive and quite popular.
Modern and Contemporary Art in France Outside of Paris CAPC Musée d'Art Contemporain de Bordeaux There's more than wine in Bordeaux! The CAPC. It opened in 1983 and it's in a really nice part of the city. They have a small permanent collection that they received from the Beaubourg, but they mostly have really interesting temporary exhibits, and the area is worth a visit.
Musée Soulages in Rodez They call him the painter of black due to his interest in this color non-color and its reflections. The building itself is interesting. The city center of Rodez is tiny, there isn't much to do there, so this museum and its restaurant are a good option.
Musée des Abattoirs in Toulouse The building (a former slaughter house) park and area are interesting. But the permanent exhibit is based on the private collection of one man and you either love it or you don't. This is contemporary, WW2 and up, sometimes the temporary exhibits are wonderful. There are some pieces by Fernand Léger outside of the museum that are great.

Architect Norman Foster was commissioned to design this museum building and he found his inspiration right across the street with the Maison Carrée, a...

MoCA (Museum Of Contemporary Art), Los Angeles
The Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles (MOCA) is a contemporary art museum with three locations in greater Los Angeles, California. The main branch is located on Grand Avenue in Downtown Los Angeles, near Walt Disney Concert Hall. MOCA's original space, initially intended as a temporary exhibit space while the main facility was built, is now known as the Geffen Contemporary, in the Little Tokyo district of downtown Los Angeles. The Pacific Design Center facility is in West Hollywood.
The museum's exhibits consist primarily of American and European contemporary art created after 1940. Since the museum's inception, MOCA's programming has been defined by its multi-discipliner.
The MOCA downtown Los Angeles location is home to almost 5,000 artworks created since 1940, including masterpieces by classic contemporary artists, and inspiring new works by emerging and mid-career artists from Southern California and around the world. The MOCA is the only museum in Los Angeles devoted exclusively to contemporary art.
In 1986, the celebrated Japanese architect Arata Isozaki, who had never worked on a project in the United States before, completed the downtown location's sandstone building to international critical and public acclaim, marking a dramatic achievement in the contemporary art world and heralding a new cultural era in Los Angeles. Its chief exhibition spaces are under the courtyard level, lit from above by groups of pyramidal skylights.
French Contemporary Art
And now it's time for our arts and culture update. Today our Yim Yoonhee joins us for a closer look at a French artist who's known for his living drawings.
Good afternoon.
Good afternoon.
First of all, what is a living drawing?
These living drawings refers to huge steel cutouts artist Bernar Venet creates of his sketches.
They have been shown around the world and are now showing here in Korea,... along with exclusive never before seen pieces from the artist.
Let's take a look.
He's an artist who takes inspiration from something rather unexpected.
Bernar Venet looks to mathematics for his ideas, as he feels the two are beautifully related.
His large steel creations have been seen in some of the world's most recognized museums, as they're considered avante garde designs displaying genius in the field.
They're all part of his Grib series, a collection of abstract scribbles he's been producing since 2011.
And where it might look like complete chaos, comb through each piece and you'll see that mathematic figures, angles, circles, and arcs can be found in every inch of his creations.
Interview Bernar VENET It's difficult because they're really heavy etc
He's 73 years old, but shows no signs of slowing down, eager to share his 30 pieces of work , some which have never been displayed before, to the public.
From the same country, the land of art, comes 6 more abstract artists.
To some it might look like just a few scribbles and blobs, but these artists are on the pioneering edge of their field, always discovering the new and the potential.
A simplistic approach to the canvas sometimes inspires more ideas, but in any case, the variety of rather unique pieces are available to view in Seoul.
Tell us more about how the first artist, Bernar Venet, created these steel works of art.
He actually created hundreds and hundreds of sketches.
Then he chose a few, and projected them onto steel, to be cut out.
And that's how his 2D sketches come to life.
These sketches are available to be seen at the museum along with the steel works.
And I believe I've seen him in Korea before. This is not the first time this artist has come to Korea right?
Right. In fact, Venet has been to Korea three times before.
He's quite popular in Korea.
In 2007, his saturation paintings first introduced this artist to Korea.
And after, he was invited back to show at different museums around the country in 2010 and 2011.
What about the second exhibition with the six artists? Tell us more about them.
These artists all embody traditions seen only in French art.
French art has such a history and has had such an impact within the art community, and now contemporary artists still show signs of that influence, along with the stylistic features of modern and contemporary art.
Thank you for that report.
Always a pleasure.
