Ljubljana puppet theatre: Doctor Faustus (1938)
The tale of a scholar who sold his soul to the devil has been inspiring European art for centuries. Today, the most famous reworking of the motif is considered to be the German legend based on Dr Johannes Faust, a historical figure from the early 16th century, whose life grew into a folk legend through German oral tradition, becoming the subject of countless retellings and interpretations. Milan Klemenčič (1875–1957) – first Slovenian puppeter adapted the Leipzig version of the puppet play and staged it in 1938 in his own Miniature Puppets Theatre. After the show you are able to see the backstage of his miniature theatre. The original puppets and a scene from Doctor Faustus are on display at the permanent exhibition of the Museum of Puppetry at Ljubljana Castle.
Doctor Faustus will be performed as a part of the Creative Europe project All Strings Attached: The Pioneers of European Puppetry behind the Scenes. More information: allstringsattached.eu

Ljubljana In Your Pocket - Ljubljana Castle (Ljubljanski Grad)
Perched on top of Castle Hill (Grajska Planota) and dominating the city skyline to the south, Ljubljanas magnificent castle stands on the site of several former defensive buildings in a hilly area of land stretching away to the south of the old town. The current ensemble of buildings originates from necessary 16th-century reconstruction work following the earthquake of 1511, with several later additions. Not unlike Kraków's Wawel Castle in Poland, Ljubljana Castle has served as both a royal residence and a military barracks over the centuries.
The current main points of interest for the visitor are both located inside the Outlook Tower (Razgledni Stolp), built in the 19th century and raised a further 1.2m by the communists in 1982. The towers Virtual Museum screens a 20-minute film in 3D, viewed with the aid of special glasses and a headset for an English translation, showing an interesting and informative history of the castle. On the same floor find a small door that takes you to the top of the tower up some 100 red cast-iron steps, each individually decorated with an image of the tower and the citys dragon. A door at the top leads to a small viewing platform (not for the faint hearted) with wonderful views of the city.
Underneath the tower and located down a small flight of stairs tucked away through a doorway in the corner of the courtyard is the diminutive St Georges Chapel (Kapela sv Jurija). Originally Gothic and remodelled in the Baroque style, the chapel is interesting for its 15th-century wall paintings and not a lot more.
The castle also has a small art gallery featuring temporary exhibitions, a café, souvenir shop and a branch of the citys Puppet Museum. Its also a popular place for local weddings, and during the summer puts on concerts and, in July, hosts a popular outdoor cinema. To reach it, several small paths lead up from the old town, or take the funicular next to the Puppet Theatre.

The Ljubljana Castle
Ljubljana Castle, standing on a hill above the city for about 900 years, is Ljubljana's main attraction. The castle's Outlook Tower and ramparts offer some of the most beautiful views of the city, while the castle houses a museum exhibition on Slovenian history, a puppet museum, and a number of historical rooms such as the Chapel of St George, the Prison, and a video presentation room called Virtual Castle.
Ljubljana Castle, which can quickly be reached by funicular railway, also provides space for art exhibitions, houses a café, a nightclub, and two restaurants (Strelec and Gostilna na Gradu), and serves as a venue for cultural events, family entertainment, dance evenings, and open-air film screenings held under the title of Film under the Stars in the summer.
Outlook Tower
Ljubljana Castle's Outlook Tower offers the most beautiful views of Ljubljana and its surrounding areas. It stands on a site originally occupied by the Pipers' Tower, which was pulled down in 1813 following the French occupation, and later by a fire lookout tower, home of the city's fire watchman.
The exhibition Slovenian History
The exhibition, divided into six sections, covers the entire known history of Slovenia. It takes you back about 200,000 years in history, to the earliest traces of human presence in the area of present-day Slovenia.

JEWISH CULTURAL CENTRE LJUBLJANA, SLOVENIA
PRESENTATION
Mission
Considering the complexity and historical neglect of the Jewish presence in this territory, as well as the contemporary history of Israel and the diaspora, the Jewish Cultural Center uses a public-friendly approach to encourage both young and adult visitors to rethink history and attempt to understand it better. Our educational mission, which includes curatorial projects, exhibitions, and practice-based research aims to examine and present a multitude of facets related to the Holocaust and its profound effects on society. We believe that a rigorous examination of the Holocaust will help people reflect on the uses and abuses of power, as well as the roles and responsibilities of individuals, organizations and nations, as they confront violations of human rights; and contribute to a greater understanding of the possibilities of a repeated genocide in the contemporary world.
About
The Jewish Cultural Center (JCC) in Ljubljana serves the social life of the city's Jews and international visitors by presenting innovative, entertaining, and educational topics through theater and puppet performances, concerts, lectures, Jewish holidays, and other social gatherings. In close partnership with Mini Theater, the JCC is the epicenter for critical events and festivals promoting tolerance, inclusion, history, and education from western Slovenia to northeastern Italy.

FALLING FOR SLOVENIA: LJUBLJANA, BLED, VINTGAR GORGE, BOHINJ | Fall Break Vlog Part 1
My fall break consists of traveling around Slovenia and Italy. Please excuse the way I pronounce Ljubljana. I've been trying all sorts of things and still have trouble pronouncing it properly. Unfortunately, the second half of my vlog has very low volume since I put on a different case for my camera, so I stuck in captions instead.
In this vlog, I
-walked around Ljubljana
-climbed up Ljubljana Castle & watched a marathon
-Played with puppets in the puppet museum of Ljubljana Castle
-Rowed out to Bled Castle on Lake Bled
-Hiked through Vintgar Gorge
-Chilled next to Lake Bohinj

The Jewish Cultural Centre Ljubljana, Slovenia
Dear Friends,
We need your help. Unfortunately our work is not supported by the Slovenian government. We are left to ourselves and we simply can't go on. To continue our work and mission we desperately need your help.
We turn to you with a hugh request to help us gather the funds to renew The Jewish Cultural Center in Ljubljana, organize the new Jewish Museum and Gallery. Restore the Sinagog and help us finance our educational programs, which are mostly dedicated to the memory of the Holocaust. We live in a time in which we are daily targeted by antisemitizem and antiizreali movements. We wish to live in a world with tolerance to everyone.
You are our last hope to keep The Jewish Cultural Center in Ljubljana open. It is the only Jewish center in Slovenia and I fear that if it closes Judaism in Slovenia will be gone forever.
If you can help in anyway we will be forever grateful.
Toda raba, thank you

Ljubljana Vacation Travel Guide | Expedia
Step into the narrow streets of the town center, where instead of traffic you’ll hear bicycle bells, and instead of gridlock you’ll find riverbanks lined with cafes, pubs and historic architecture.

Stroll to nearbyCongress Squareand Park Zvezda. From here, you can see theUniversity of Ljubljana, one of the largest places of learning in Europe.
Visit the Slovene Philharmonic Orchestra building, one of the world’s oldest musical institutions with famous connections to composers such as Beethoven and Brahms.
Cross the Dragon Bridge, famous for its fearsome dragon statues, who’s tails are said to twitch when a pure and untouched maiden is nearby.
Pick up a free bicycle rental and follow the Jokopic Promenade to the Tivoli Castle and check out the print collection at the International Centre of Graphic Arts.
Immerse yourself in art of a different kind in the Metelkova Mesto, a funky cultural zone, which hosts more than 1500 events each year.
Ljubljana may have taken a dragon as its symbol but unlike that mythical beast, this city is welcoming, warm and delighted to share its treasures with visitors.
For now, we hope you enjoy watching this #travel #guide as much as we enjoyed making it.
