Macau is an autonomous region on the south coast of China, across the Pearl River Delta from Hong Kong. A Portuguese territory until 1999, it reflects a mix of cultural influences. Its giant casinos and malls on the Cotai Strip, which joins the islands of Taipa and Coloane, have earned it the nickname, Las Vegas of Asia. One of its more striking landmarks is the tall Macau Tower, with sweeping city views.

Tai Pa Village, Taipa Houses-Museum and Wetlands
the Taipa Houses-Museum ( the Carmo Church, the Civil Affairs Registry and two beautiful gardens that incorporate the “Eight Views of Macao”. Getting to these locations requires a walk by moving walkway.
In addition, located nearby are wetlands where many black-faced spoonbills live – a rather unique finding in the middle of a business center!
The Tai Pa Village is also only 10 minutes walk from the hotel - located in the south of the island, the historical part of Taipa is best preserved in this village. With a tidy sprawl of traditional Chinese shops and some excellent restaurants, the village is punctuated by colonial villas, churches and temples (Lonelyplanet).
Beautiful Macau (Taipa) - walking in the old area | Прогулка по исторической части Макао
I love Macau for it's cozy, narrow old streets with Portuguese style houses. I'm not a gambler and don't care about casinos, so I just walked around, had fantastic dinner in a Michelin Portuguese restaurant and bought some traditional Macau pastry. It's very convenient to get to Macau from Hong Kong by a speed boat. Visa regulations in Macau are very liberal and most of the countries get visa upon arrival.

Macau's Lord Stow's Bakery: Macau Culinary Tourism, Martime Trade & History
An appetizing mixture of East and West--that's the Portuguese egg tarts in Lord Stow's Bakery. Lord Stow, a Brit living in Macau, was not a lord, but his clients called him that for the noble tarts he invented, an original variation of those served in dim sum restaurants and European bakeries. His version is even more decadent than those, with its wickedly rich custard filling in buttery pastry shells.
