Strange United States Traction Elevators-California State Museum-Sacramento, CA
These are some pretty strange but unique US elevators. They have dying smoke detector floor passing chimes as I like to call them. I'm not sure what kind of bells are used for the hall lanterns. Pretty dark elevator cabs though

This Light Bulb Has Been Shining For A Whopping 116 Years At Fire Station
A California fire department claims a light bulb in their station has burned for 116 years. The assertion comes after a Pittsburgh couple said an alarm clock had been stuck in their wall for 13 years, and a Pennsylvania woman said she had a light bulb that functioned for 37 years. Tom Bramell, a retired deputy fire chief, is in charge of looking after the bulb. It's been burning continuously since 1901, he told Inside Edition. You're not allowed to touch it. We don't even dust it off.

These are cool elevators. Unfortunately, this hotel isn't in the best part of town. At first, I thought these were US elevators because of the call stations, but I later came to the conclusion these were rather Amtech Reliable elevators because of the COP. It's nice to see that these are original as there are VERY few Amtech and US elevators in Sacramento. These have nice motors as well! These aren't the only elevators in this hotel...

Magnificent Ranch Estate
First time on the market, this Southwestern style mansion is being offered for sale with 105.56 +/- acres and over 15,000 sq. ft. in the main house. The main home, barn, caretaker's house and 35± acres may be purchased for $3,945,000. Most of the home was built for entertaining. Many interior doors are 9’ tall and custom made. The property includes a 2 bedroom guest house, pool, 6 car (4/2) garage, tennis court, large and deep fishing lake, horse barn, pens and pasture land for grazing, and is located only 30 minutes from Austin. This ranch, originally over 1,100 acres, has been the Estate of Dollie Ann Cole since it was built in 1983. Mrs. Cole was an outstanding, stylish Texas woman, who was the widow of the late Edward N. Cole, the highly respected engineer and former President of General Motors. Mr. Cole passed away in 1977 while flying his own plane to work. Mrs. Cole passed away in 2014. After Mr. Cole’s death, Mrs. Cole began what became the ranch. The ranch called The Briarpatch, has been the scene of many lavish, colorful parties and charitable events, attended by many sports legends and Hollywood's elite, including A.J. Foyt, Johnny Rutherford, Jim Nabors, Andy Griffith, Debbie Reynolds, Florence Henderson, Ruta Lee, Ruth Buzzi, and Phyllis Diller. Scenes for many movies, television shows, and commercials have been filmed at the ranch including From Dusk till Dawn, Leftovers, Revolution, Green Ghost, Machete, Bed of Lies, Where the Heart Is, Take Away My Take Away, Corrupt.Gov, and Fast Food Nation. Mrs. Cole's parties at The Briarpatch were also of legend. Guests were often greeted by costumed riders on horseback lining the long drive, all carrying flags. She had skydivers (including one of her sons, Jeff) land in the backyard during the parties. She owned several fire engines, Checker cabs, an ambulance, police cars, large trucks, and heavy equipment, some of which are still there today, used for movie props. Guests arrived in their own planes and helicopters at nearby private runways. The home was used for many charitable and civic related gatherings, including for Project HOPE, The 100 Club of Central Texas, and The Air and Space Museum of the Smithsonian. It was also the site of car related events for Corvette and Corvair enthusiasts, automobiles near and dear to the Cole family. Much of the antique wood in the house is from the Lockhart Cotton Compress, circa 1860. Many of the 25 plus doors are 9'x4' tall and were carved f

San Jose was founded on November 29, 1777, as the Pueblo de San José de Guadalupe, the first city founded in the Californias. It then became a part of Mexico in 1821 after the Mexican War of Independence. Following the American Conquest of California during the Mexican–American War, the territory was ceded to the United States in 1848. After California achieved statehood two years later, San Jose became the state's first capital. Following World War II, San Jose experienced an economic boom, with a rapid population growth and aggressive annexation of nearby cities and communities carried out in the 1950s and 1960s. SUMMARY
=======
San Antonio (; from Spanish, Saint Anthony), officially the City of San Antonio, has more than 1.5 million residents. It is the seventh-most populous city in the United States, and the second-most populous city in both Texas and the Southern United States. Founded as a Spanish mission and colonial outpost in 1718, the city became the first chartered civil settlement in present-day Texas in 1731. The area was still part of the Spanish Empire, and later of the Mexican Republic. Today it is the state's oldest municipality. The city's deep history is contrasted with its rapid recent growth during the past few decades: it was the fastest-growing of the top ten largest cities in the United States from 2000 to 2010, and the second from 1990 to 2000. Straddling the regional divide between South and Central Texas, San Antonio anchors the southwestern corner of an urban megaregion colloquially known as the Texas Triangle.
San Antonio serves as the seat of Bexar County; recent annexations have extended the city's boundaries into Medina County and, for a tiny area near the city of Garden Ridge, into Comal County. Since San Antonio was founded during the Spanish Colonial Era, it has a church (San Fernando Cathedral) in its center, on the main civic plaza in front, a characteristic of many Spanish-founded cities, towns, and villages in Spain and Latin America. As with many other urban centers in the Southwestern United States, areas outside the city limits are sparsely populated.
San Antonio is the center of the San Antonio–New Braunfels metropolitan statistical area. Commonly called Greater San Antonio, the metro area has a population of 2,473,974 based on the 2017 U.S. census estimate, making it the 24th-largest metropolitan area in the United States and third-largest in Texas. Growth along the Interstate 35 and Interstate 10 corridors to the north, west and east make it likely that the metropolitan area will continue to expand.
San Antonio was named by a 1691 Spanish expedition for Saint Anthony of Padua, whose feast day is June 13. The city contains five 18th-century Spanish frontier missions, including The Alamo and San Antonio Missions National Historical Park, which together were designated UNESCO World Heritage sites in 2015. Other notable attractions include the River Walk, the Tower of the Americas, SeaWorld, the Alamo Bowl, and Marriage Island. Commercial entertainment includes Six Flags Fiesta Texas and Morgan's Wonderland amusement parks. According to the San Antonio Convention and Visitors Bureau, the city is visited by about 32 million tourists a year. It is hom ...

THE BAY TO LA on a CBR600RR - DAY 1/2 (MUSIC VERSION)
NO MUSIC VERSION -
NEXT DAY -
CALIFORNIA, AUGUST 2016. With under a thousand miles of experience at the time, this was my first solo tour from the Bay Area to Los Angeles and back. My previous trip had been about 120 miles total, so this one was substantially longer than anything I had ever ridden.
Due to a late start, I hit traffic at the start of my trip passing downtown San Francisco. That's where I filtered for the first time. Then I filtered again later through Santa Cruz traffic, which was a breeze as the cars on the 2 lane highway gave a generous path in the middle. I found lane splitting to be challenging, useful and fun. We're blessed to be the only state to allow it in the United States. It's a little insane all the other states don't allow it.
After taking Highway 1 from San Francisco to Santa Cruz, I decided to take the 101 rather than the coast through Big Sur. Due to the Soberanes Fire (the most expensive wildfire in United States history), there were road closures, smoke warnings and flames close to the road. The 101 ended being smooth and fast as it had open roads and was pretty empty for most of it. You could see the smoke and smell the fire from the mountain range to the west.
I was getting used to my GoPro system and forgot to plug in the mic in my helmet a couple of times. I didn't check and clean the camera cover as much I should have. The camera was also tilted to the side. Lessons learned.
Oxford Suites, right off the freeway in Pismo Beach, was a great spot to finish the first day. I had just made it in time to use the surprise voucher for 2 glasses of wine and had an hour for the jacuzzi. A jacuzzi is lavish after the chill from a long ride! Though my bike wasn't in sight from my room, they had motorcycle parking in front of their lit, 24 hour lobby. There was a Denny's next door and a gas station store to get water. As I got in late and left first thing in the morning, I plan to come back and explore.

Belonging and Public Space—Racism and the Right to the City | #OBConf2019
This breakout session explores how othering and belonging is spatialized across local and national contexts in order to influence how racialized groups access common spaces, such as places of work, educational institutions, housing, and other shared public space. The panel draws on case studies in racial geography to highlight the factors that shape various spaces either reproduce or resist messages of racial discrimination, marginalization, and exclusion. Themes include: connecting race and place, racial segregation and displacement, the inclusionary and exclusionary politics of spatial mobility, and strategies for cultivating inclusive local spaces around the world.
Speakers include: Rhonda Itaoui, Kevin Dunn, Omar Salha, Lara Kiswani, and Roberto Zurbano.
